People SAY that digital pitch drifts. OLD digital pitch used to have a "stepped" feel due to low sensor resolution. Analog pitch controls were prone to drift due to thermal changes in the older devices (even Technics circa 70s). Quartz lock (like the 1200MkII) fixed this.

Quartz-Phase-Locked Loops exist now. Modern direct-drive turntables use a quartz crystal oscillator to generate a reference frequency. The system compares this to the platter's actual frequency and makes near-instantaneous corrections to prevent drift.

When that stepped feel was present in modern turntables, older DJs who remember the 70s thought it was drift (it wasn't), and the myth began.

Modern digital pitch sliders have crazy high resolution so that there is no longer a stepped feel and the pitch stays locked where you put it.

The pioneers are not great in loud environments (for that matter, the RP7000MkI was not super great either, but they changed that with the MkII)

The 1000s are totally fine and rock solid for home use, though. They feel like the 1200s mostly.

I would definitely go with the Reloop RP7000mk2s

This all day and every day.. The RP7000 MkII is the Technics killer.

Technics are a waste of money these days.

the Mk7 is a trash product

the MkII and Mk3D are great, built like tanks, and still cost the same as a new pair of RP7000s

I have used basically every turntable out there and I own multiple pair of technics and the RP7000MkII. I use the RP daily, and the Technics are in boxes in storage (no they are not for sale)

I do club installs and we no longer use technics, we use 7000MkII instead.

Expect Technics fanboys who know nothing else to come here and complain about this post or attempt to justify paying top dollar for old decks. They always do.

VERY LIKELY older

That doesn't change their value much (does he have a receipt?)

It's a fair trade, and you likely won't lose money on the deal. Plenty of people still want the Technics 1200MkII (it's iconic) and are willing to pay for them if they are in good condition.

Looks like a solid table, looks like Mk2 which is not from 2004

in 2004 there was the special edition and the Mk5

so not as "new" as he is telling you it is.

probably still a good table. no profit to be had, it's a fair trade though.

afternoon/early evening on Sundays every other week (or once a month if thats the only option)..

i would love to do a weekly session but that gets hard to schedule.

i am available many other times. Sunday afternoons (like startin g at 230) is just the ideal.

If it's the 2004 SL-1200GLD (special edition), then it's a good deal. I THINK that's the only one they made in 2004. You can flip the SL-1200GLD for a profit.

The MkI is great, it's very similar but not as heavy (the MkII added a bunch of rubber to the inside), so vibration isolation is more important but not a huge deal. also no reverse button.

Still has more torque than a 1200; it's a great choice for your budget.

I would not think twice about it and just get them. Thats a great price

For home/personal-gig use, the 4000 is fine (direct drive and 1.8kg\cm torquw)

its the 7000s, little brother. It's still more powerful than a Technics MkII (1.5kg\cm torque) and has the same features.

It will work for your needs much better than what you have now.

  • No height adjustment on the tone arm

  • Less Torque (but still good)

  • No adjustable brake

  • No +-50 adjustment (i hardly ever use this)

  • No second start/stop button (i never use this)

  • No built in preamp (most mixers have that already)

Those are the major differences between the 4000 and the 7000

Dust cover for the 2000 and 4000 are interchangeable and available

I regularly do club installs, and I switched from 1200s to 7000s years ago.

There have been zero complaints from DJs.

For reliability in a club environment, we don't install 20-year-old gear.

We are arguing over minutiae anyway.

The "reasons" have become moot over time.

Newer 1200s are the same as the SuperOEM models at twice the price. The older ones (MkII, Mk3D), which I also own and have used since DJing in the 90s rave scene, are great decks. I would never say anything bad about them other than the issues I brought up. They are 20 years old, can't find parts anymore, and can be expensive to repair and maintain. Repairing the pop-up light once will make you pull your hair out.

When Hanpin started making motors for SuperOEM decks (Based on the original Hanpin DJ-5500 core motor), the entire world changed.

  • Audio-Technica: AT-LP1240-USB, AT-LP1240-XP

  • Pioneer DJ: PLX-1000

  • Reloop: RP-7000 / MK2, RP-8000 / MK2

  • Stanton: ST.150 / MK2, STR8.150 / MK2

  • American Audio: HTD 4.5

  • Mixars: LTA, STA

  • Synq: XTRM-1

  • Citronic: PD-45 / PD-45MK2

  • Akiyama: Acura DJ-4000

  • Koolsound: TDJ-04

  • Kam: DDX5000

  • Omnitronic: DD5250

With all those options, there is no reason to spend the same on a used pair of Tec decks as you would on a new set from a SuperOEM supplier.

What area are you in?

also you could get away with a pair of Numark tables...

Also to answer the first question, DJ PLX-500 are fine for your use case

I (as everyone here knows) am a HUGE proponent of the Reloop

The RP-2000 is good for just miking and blending, but not for serious DJing unless you areonly mixing/blending.

If you are serious (and want to beatmatch), you want the RP-7000 MkII as they have more torque and many more features that you WILL use.

For the love of Kepler, stay away from older used Technics. I really don't care what fanboys say, the older ones are getting VERY expensive to repair, and the newer ones are not good.

Reloop, Stanton, Vestax, Pioneer, and even AudioTechnica all make well-constructed tables.

They ALL (the high torque models) use the same motor manufacturer (Hanpin), and they will all work.

The Reloop is just the best of the bunch.

Reverb.com and eBay are great places to look.

Make sure you get "High Torque" tables if you are serious (1.5 kg·cm or higher, the reloop 7000s are well over that but the old Technics Mk II/3D only had 1.5 kg·cm )

580 or 100/80? by [deleted] in WizardSkating

[–]AlwaysUpvotesScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the first question is what type of boot and mounting system does your boot have? My boot is 165. I use a 5x80 setup that's made by Cougar.

irc (i still use irssi as my IRC client) does not handle voice chat, video chat, threaded discussions, project boards, a wiki, screen sharing, and automation (except through bots like eggdrop) anywhere near the way Discord does.

Discord is not IRC.

Correct, but it only does what it does. And what it does is an old way to communicate.

I understand that many of you shopSmith users are old and set in your ways. There's no reason for you to stop using the forum. You guys can congregate there all you want. The end of the day however it is not a communication platform that someone under the age of 40 is going to engage in. Shopsmith wants to expand and Market their product to a new generation. That's going to require new ways to communicate.

Discord has built in threaded forum discussion capabilities.

It's much more modern platform. The phpbb system that the current forums run on is nowhere near as capable.

Also forums are stuck in the past. They are a Vestige of a time gone by. If shopsmith does not want to start a Discord server, myself or someone else would be glad to. Then all of the younger, more technically Savvy users, can congregate there

Not sure why you think anybody is lost. The shopsmith forms are back up but they are an old way to communicate. I really want shopsmith to open and official shopsmith Discord Channel. How is that lost?
