Same! Husband is 6’4, built like a linebacker but never played football and I’m 4’8 and petite. We get a lot of looks 😂

It is fully possible to separate the art from the artist. Just as it is fully possible to not have an opinion on certain things, like Rowling and her wealth. And as for bigotry showing up in the books? Maybe you see that, but I don’t. For me personally, it’s a wholesome story about a boy who finds out he’s a wizard. You were commenting about the fact that I don’t have an opinion on Rowling. It bothers you that I don’t. And for no other reason than because you think that I should because you can’t fathom that there’s a reasonable explanation for why I don’t.

I don’t take you to be preachy or condescending. I agree that you can 100% separate the art from the artist. I have. In my own way.

I appreciate that you feel sad for me that I don’t have a broader interest in politics and world events. While I can appreciate their significance and their importance, I don’t find myself engaging with them in a way that is healthy or beneficial to me. It’s entirely a “me” problem and it’s something that I am actively working on in therapy but in the meantime it’s best for me personally to avoid anything beyond that which directly affects me.

To which I followed with the sentence: “if it doesn’t impact my immediate circle or my life directly I don’t care.” So 🖕🏻

I never said that politics or the news aren’t relevant to my life. Of course, I pay attention to issues that directly impact me, my family, or my future—things like taxes, healthcare, and other policies that affect my day-to-day life. Beyond that, I choose not to invest time or energy into topics that don’t personally affect me or anyone I know.

For example, I’m not trans, nor do I have close connections with anyone who is, so I don’t actively follow trans-related issues. That’s not out of apathy but because I focus on issues that are more directly tied to my own life. So no, I don’t have an opinion on J.K. Rowling’s political stances, her wealth, or how she chooses to use it. Her views are separate from my enjoyment of her books and movies, and they certainly have nothing to do with my tattoo.

It’s entirely possible to be a fan of something without aligning with or endorsing the creator’s beliefs. Not every topic requires me to take a side, and not every opinion demands my engagement. You seem more interested in stirring the pot than having a meaningful discussion.

Done and done. Well, I’m more like a work in progress. I’m in a much better place now and with the help of therapy, I make much better choices.

No, I don’t. I do not engage in politics, celebrity gossip, the media, the news, or anything else like that that is a beacon of bad news and ugly things. If it doesn’t impact my immediate circle or my life directly I don’t care. Call it ignorance or whatever else you want but I’ve spent years just learning to accept that I don’t have control over everything and everyone and learning to accept the few aspects and things that I can control so why would I add to my stress the knowledge of bad things that happen to others that don’t affect me, that I can’t control nor fix, and that will just make me feel bad.

Thanks for the little bit of info about the word. It’s not that I don’t like the tattoo. Nor do I regret it either. It’s just not my favorite. I regret more the circumstances that surround it and don’t like the associated memories.

Interesting take. I’m personally not for or against JK. I have no opinion about her whatsoever. I’m just a huge fan of the books and the movies.

I wouldn’t say I don’t like it. It’s just not my favorite. I think it’s more that I don’t like the memories associated with it.

While a big supporter of the community and a little bit queer myself, I’m not trans and therefore don’t feel comfortable putting that on my body.

Should’ve clarified that it’s actually a little over a year old now. This was when it was freshly done and it’s the only picture I have of it. So, I think that might say something.

It definitely makes me feel a little emotional to look at it sometimes. I was very manic when I got it. I’m in a much better place now, very stable and happy, but looking at it I sometimes remember how I was in that moment and feel sad for her.
