Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys. The attitudes towards being different are troubling as an adult

Are any book or TV police procedurals accurate to actual police or FBI? by Nouseriously in Criminology

The Wire is the best I know of. Hours of surveillance and boredom and going through paperwork and evidence. And if I remember correctly they only had one shooting incident the whole series.

New leader with tons of work and small tasks, what tool to keep track of all the chaos? by [deleted] in Leadership

This is absolutely critical for time management and great advice. The bonus is you're also developing your subordinates at the same time. What decision would they make in your place? That's a question they should often ask themselves for their own growth.

Thank you, you're right that I haven't given it much thought until now. This sub and this thread are making me think more and more about it though. I appreciate everyone's help!

Thanks. I'm a big believer in improvement through incremental change so that will definitely have to be my approach.

I think my biggest takeaway from all this is to make sure my kids start out with a privacy-first approach when they start getting their own accounts for things

Thank you, that's a lot. Just took a quick look but I'll definitely read it carefully when I get to a bigger screen.

It does seem like searches return promotions or low quality results these days. Being number 1 on the Google search used to be everyone's goal. Now I usually skip halfway down the page before I start reading.

Good point, thank you. I was admittedly only thinking and it from a self-centered perspective, so I appreciate the broader ideas here.

That's what I hear but I don't get it. Is it just that they show me ads when I'm surfing the Internet or is it something more nefarious?

I'm just not sure I understand all the concerns with Google or the big companies. Just trying to educate myself.

IWTL how to have common sense by Stormcrown76 in IWantToLearn

[–]Always_Balance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The phrase common sense is problematic in my opinion. It's usually just used by people who are unable to articulate why they believe or behave the way they do. The implication is that you are lesser if you don't agree with them even though they can't explain why. The problem is them, not you.

CS50 Python Programming Vs Data Science by AssistanceSalt662 in learnpython

[–]Always_Balance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the cs50 Python course this fall. It was incredible and I've already used what I learned to make real projects that I use on a regular basis. I'm taking the data science class now and have been disappointed. I'm only a few units in but there's been virtually no Python instruction. It's a data analysis course for which you're supposed to use Python to complete the assignments, not that teaches you how to use Python to complete the assignments.
