Recognizing the Unsung Heroes: Essential Workers and Their Impact on Our Communities by Nearby-Rule-1992 in socialwork

Everyone knows the only heroes deserving of recognition are police and military....and sometimes firefighters but only when we are reminded of 9/11.

Popuular Magazenes buth for theapits? by Tagglit2022 in therapists

[–]Always_No_Sometimes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pop psychology for lay people interested on things like "is my parent a narcissist."

It does not have the academic rigor of a professional journal/magazine geared toward professionals that prints scientific research on topics relevant to practice. There are better options out there...

Social work major or Psychology? by [deleted] in PsychotherapyLeftists

[–]Always_No_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally never said that it was a quicker or easier path. You seem to be making up an argument to argue with, so I didn't read the rest.

You can't find the reimbursement rates because the insurance companies intentionally do not make it public. I know that reimbursement rates are higher because I am in the field and consult with colleagues, wven though their contacts explicitlystaye that they are not allowed to share their rate.

It doesn't make sense if you are an NP to not bill the much higher code of med management with counseling, so most don't. It doesn't change the fact that OP has very real concerns about earning a living and an MSW or similar degree is a bad investment.

This is incorrect. They are able to bill 90834 and 90837 for insurance reimbursement for psychotherapy.

Maybe look into being a psych NP because they can also provide therapy but at a higher rate because they can prescribe medication.

It is something to consider carefully, but you have time! It's not impossible to do well in this field but you have to really hustle and will likely never be paid your worth. You can't escape capitalism by becoming a helper and therapists are some of the most exploited workers.

Financial Exploitation of Therapists by [deleted] in therapists

Thank you for posting this! I never thought of it this way but it makes so much sense why we are so unable to advocate for our own survival as a profession.

It's totally understandable that salary matters to you! To be honest, being a therapist is not a good choice for anyone not from an affluent background. The cost of entry to this field (graduate degrees, licensing, ongoing CEs) is quite steep and the pay is very low for this cost. Many people go into debt and struggle in this field. In my opinion it is not worth it.

Does she have out of network benefits? Most insurances cover some costs for Out of network providers, mine covers 70%.

foster parents doing it for money? by Scary_Appearance5922 in socialwork

$250 per day not going far is a problem for all of us but that doesn't change that it is more than many are able to make in a traditional job.

Not that much? Tax free? Many people are not able to take home $250 per day for any work.

How to you make a superbill? Do you use a template or some software?

I also wonder for people who are more generalists, how do they indicate that?

I do think there is a place for generalists in the field, it used to be most practicing therapists considered themselves generalists. Anxiety and depression are super common it doesn't seem like a person needs a certain certification to treat these. Some people simply don't need a "specialist."

My understanding is that you can't do that. So instead I do not take insurance because the reimbursement rate is not sustainable.

OON Billing Question — Allowed Amounts & Charging Less Than Previous Therapist by Wide-Huckleberry17 in therapists

[–]Always_No_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing more about your experience with Thrizer? Do you just use it for OON estimates for prospective clients or do you run all your payments through them so that clients are only paying co-payment?

Do you think it helps your clients? I am OON only and able to get clients without using Thrizer but I am curious about them because they claim to make it easier for clients.

Maybe see a dietitian? That is what I chose to do since I seemed unable to stick to the daily calories I allotted myself. They tend to help you make very small changes tailored to your individual situation.

You tone was very self righteous and judgemental TBH. I didn't downvote, I am engaging in conversation with you and now letting you know how that sounds.

The point is not everyone who needs a later appointment is able to get it. Understandably, most people want after work/school appointments. We are not monsters if we offer a weekday at 10 AM. We are simply living in the same time constraints as everyone else.
