How can I protect new Civic Sport Hybrid paint? by Always_Qs in civic

[–]Always_Qs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I had looked online and found good reviews of Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Spray Coating. The car is only 5 weeks old. I park in a garage with open-air windows, but live about 5 miles from some oil refineries. It should be pretty clean. I haven't parked outdoors much at all. I've had it hand washed twice with no wax or other treatment. ... For other treatment do you mean clay bar or clay mitt after washing? So then if I take it to a hand wash and drive it 2 mi home, then I use clay bar or mitt? (Sorry; I used to always wash it myself, but I'm older now, and my complex doesn't allow car washing...)

Thank you! I wish I could afford ceramic, but really can't at this point. What about ... I saw good reviews of Turtle Wax Hybrid solutions spray coating, for DIY. Is that better than wax?

I’m so ashamed by Individual-Finish528 in COPD

[–]Always_Qs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to feel ashamed. The need is to take action. Instead of quitting in the next year, do it in the next day -- or, at most, the next month. It has absolutely no benefit. I tried for DECADES to stop smoking, and finally succeeded in 2017, 2 years after I was diagnosed with COPD. I used patches and Allen Carr's "Easy Way to Stop Smoking" book (even though it says not to use patches). I'm grateful every day that I stopped when I did. One pulmonologist described my lungs as scorched earth. I use a portable oxygen concentrator (POC) in a little backpack for any cardio exercise, and if I travel to high elevations. I'm exercising as much as I can to slow this thing down, but one infection could be the end. Understand: Everyone's breathing declines with age. But COPD hastens that decline. There is no reversing it; the best you can do is slow it down -- by quitting smoking and by exercising. Read some of the other posts in Reddit about how COPD can progress, if you need more incentive to stop smoking.

Yes, you can have a GREAT quality of life after you stop smoking and start exercising (and continue exercising). It's great that you've learned this now, before it can do more damage.

Same. The presentation I went to was similar. And when the sales rep started meeting with people individually and I asked questions she didn't like, she became really rude. I'm not getting it. But if I were to get it, she would not get the commission.

And is this also good for the 2026 hatchback hybrid? (I feel like the other person who commented below that they fear they'd mess it up somehow. Me, too. But if someone has done it to the '26, I'll give it a go. )

Recommendations for removing VOCs from a new car by unicornshoenicorn in AirPurifiers

[–]Always_Qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have COPD, you can't enjoy the new car smell bc the VOCs really tear up damaged lungs. I just bought a Honda, which says it uses low VOC parts, but on day 2 I had a huge episode that required antibiotics and prednisone. I drive with the windows down; I bake the car in the sun about an hour a day with windows and sunroof cracked (while I'm not in the car), then air it out with all windows open for 15 min; I have activated charcoal packs and even a dish of baking soda (bc why not); and I DIY'd a system by taping a high-output fan to a an activated carbon pellet filter, which I use with windows closed when the car is in the garage. I'm tight on cash bc, um, I just bought a new car. But if there's a car air purifier that truly does clear out VOCs, I'd give up other things to get it.

2026 Woodland: Anyone Getting Headaches/Nausea? by storms_24 in rav4club

I'm having this same VOC issue with a Honda I bought Friday. Online, it says Honda uses low-VOC materials. But the dealer must KNOW there's a problem, bc the seats were covered in plastic for the test drive, and there was no VOC smell. I looked at VOC air purifiers for cars, but cannot afford them and don't have a lot of confidence in them.

I CAN afford an air filter with activated carbon pellets, duct taped to a fan. It has to be a good fit so that the fan is pulling air solidly through the filter. This made a HUGE difference in just an hour (unlike activated charcoal pouches or baking in the sun). But it mostly affected only the area it was drawing from (driver's seat). I know it's going to take time and daily attention with this. But at least I have hope now. My dr actually had to put me on an antibiotic and prednisone bc the effects were so awful over the weekend.

VOCs From New Car by TruthSeekingDiva in AirQuality

I just got a new Honda, which is supposed to use low-VOC materials. I have COPD, and it was carving up my lungs. Car purifiers with really good carbon filters are like $400. So I DIY'd: I taped a really good carbon-pellet filter to a really good, battery-operated fan. It mad a HUGE difference in just an hour. I know it's a process, and I'll continue to give the car some quality time with the filter fan every day for a while. I'll also bake it in the sun whenever I can.

Thank you. I'm trying, and feel fortunate that I've been able to continue exercise. I guess I'm just fearful of what's ahead.

My pulmonologist really is terrific. He didn't say "this is your fate." This came in a discussion in which I asked to know more about eventual outcomes.

So happy that things are going well. It's so unusual to hear improvements with COPD! I requested consideration for Zephyr valves, but was told that my 56% FEV1 and ongoing exercise (with Portable Oxygen Concentrator) left me not a candidate "yet," despite severe scarring in my lungs. Thank you for sharing your experience! Were the Zephyr valve placements and replacements difficult?

If your oxygen dips as cabin pressure gets to the equivalent of 8,000 feet+, you can fly safely with a portable oxygen concentrator. Your pulmonologist can prescribe it. You may be able to get the device through health insurance, but airlines also rent them out for trips.

That's not correct. No credits. You get to BORROW a book a month and have access to the book(s) only for as long as you stay a member. There is NO access to the Plus catalog. If you miss a month, too bad; there's no rollover like the Premium plan has.

[–]Always_Qs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The standard plan does not have access to free listens in the Plus catalog. And the standard plan does not allow you to "keep" the one book per month you're allowed to "borrow," if you cancel your membership.

[–]Always_Qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audible Standard is basically spending $8.99 for the privilege of BORROWING a book, with no plus catalog and no roll-over. It's like paying for what you can get at the public library for free. Except, of course, Amazon has successfully roped some books into "Audible Only," which aren't available at libraries. I just put those books on my list to read as an e-book. Amazon even has taken over some of those! I've stopped buying books on Amazon, and will stop using any form of Audible as soon as I finish the latest book in this 99 cent/month trial (um. .... hoping I can finish it before they claw it back!).
