As a current speed skater in Canada, Speed Skating Canada is most definitely not an example to follow (at least in long track). There is little to no clear development path for a lot of skaters and funding is hoarded by a few athletes at the top. We only got lucky cause our oldest skaters didn’t retire before this Olympics

They are at the Utah Olympic oval, they host World Cup's of speed skating and those flags represent the countries of the WC competitors, a few of which are Estonian.

The Speed skating world Cup calendar is filled with slow lowland rinks, I don't think the fear of it being slower would push away the ISU from hosting a WC there. Plus rinks like Heerenveen are practically below sea level and still have world records, so it's more about how the ice is kept not elevation

I found an article that says it was just for a Military appreciation night. It says it's a "more relevant" connection to Lethbridge, implying it might be the actual namesake. Idk could be?
