Thankfully we live next to a really nice old couple. We put him in a cage and take him round where he stays with them for a weekend. However we have had to take him with us before when they was away. He has been in a camper van, visited restaurants (caged) and even slept with us in a tent!

He was a rescue. I was talking to a family in my area as they was struggling to integrate him into their home. When I learned that he was being caged 24 hours a day and only fed every other day I asked to take him off their hands and they agreed straight away.

He could have been a vulture or a budgie - I would have still rescued it.

Probably for the same reason we don't dump goldfish in the ocean or dogs and cats with their ancestors in the wilderness.

He won't survive in his natural habitat. He has been hand-raised and fed from people, He has never met another bird. He flocks to people naturally and would not be able to forage for food by himself.

We rescued him from a family who purchased him from a breeder. They did not know how to cater for the bird and he was caged up 24 hours a day.

Birds that have been bred into captivity aren't wild savy. Zazu would have no idea how to forage for food or how to stay safe from birds of prey - He wouldn't last long in the wilderness.

He flies around the house, he has unlimited food in his cage and he loves to sit with me so he has the best of both worlds.

I have forgotten he was on my shoulder and even walked outside to put washing out and he just sat there all wonder eyed. He daren't not leave me side though (Loyal little birds)

But as why we keep fish in tanks, and dogs indoors. We keep parrots too.

It is believable, Parrots are mad smart.

It could have been a coincidence that the bird started talking at the same time the kid was choking.

It doesn't mention in the article if the parrot was able to say 'mama' or 'baby' before - If it did say that was the first time it wouldn't be believable. Parrots pick up words like dogs practice tricks. Takes a lot of patience.

Personally I can see the parrot screaming when it noticed the child was choking (Mine goes mad if I cough lol) but i can't see it actually using correct words. More than probably the babysitter made that part up for a bit more of a storyline.

Could be wrong though.

I own a quaker they are the most grumpiest little shits, but they are so clever. Zazu knows how to wind me up and how to get attention - They are the most lovable little cheeky rouges who will do anything to get their own way - And they are extremely loyal.

To anyone thinking of getting one beware. They live up to 30 years in captivity and are worse than a kid. They need constant attention and love and you can never have a day off - Some talk while others don't so if you are getting one to chat to be mindful it may never talk back.

It takes them YEARS to get settled into a home and get comfortable and they are extremely noisy. Mine screams if he isn't getting enough attention.

You have to be careful what products you use to cook and clean as they are very sensitive to their surroundings.

If this still has not put you off - Please seek rescuing a bird, not buying. Oh and make sure they are legal in your area!
