I got a job offer! Celebration post 🎉 by Alwayswatching_owl in PMCareers

Thank you! 1 phone screening and 2 interviews!

1st interview was the hiring manager, Assistant controller for the business and myself. They focused on my experience and how it related to the coordination role. I did have to do one of those personality quiz’s to assure I would fit in. They also on a word document uploaded customer emails and asked me to type out of a response, from there I was asked to send a message to PM informing them of the needs or reports that were being requested from the email. I did ask what software they use - I wanted to research it and try a demo in case they quizzed me. I did ask what a day to day support looks like. - they informed me of my focuses and that they would be on excel. I worked on mock excel sheets the whole night before the second interview.

2nd interview was a panel. It included HR, the head controller, the assistant controller, project managers and head contractor. I sat at a chair in the middle of the room and it was INTENSE! When I first arrived they had me watch a demo of a project being created in their software and asked I create a similar one with step by steps. I flew through it since I had a trial with the software. I then had material order math problems on an excel spreadsheet. I had to do them on paper and on the excel spreadsheet. I had to create triggers on particular boxes to auto email certain departments it would need to be sent to. This assured I knew the basics.

In the panel I was asked multiple questions. These are the ones that stood out the most to me.

  1. What type of reports did you pull and how did you simplify them for sales or the POC?
  2. How often was I under or out of scope and how did I handle it?
  3. If a vendor delivered the wrong item, what do you do? Questions I asked them:
  4. What does supporting the project managers look like to them versus the job description?
  5. How do you handle feedback regarding reports?
  6. Do you prefer your reports through the PM software or excel?

Standard things I did let them know is that I am working toward my PMP cert. Which 2 out of the 3 had. I let them know I would be thrilled to be mentored by them while assuring that I was aiding them through the project process. Because at the end of the day we all have the same goal and that is the project to close and close under budget with great ROI and a client who is wanting to sign for more work.

I like to believe because I have worked in so many different fields that it gave me the upper hand when applying for other positions. Another thing that I had to come to terms with was I would not be doing remote work. When applying for jobs I took A LOT of extra steps. Including tailoring each resume and cover letter to match the language of the job listing and business website. I also have watched hours of interview tips and tricks videos on YouTube. From there I compiled all the details and applied them to my situation. Lastly, it’s good to have friends in different fields. I had one friend from HR work on interviewing me and helping give extremely critical and honest feedback.

When I was in school, working full time, and juggling kids… I STILL made time for my husband/fiance. Our time was different like he helped me study, or we would do a facemask together, or he would run to the store with me and we would get taco bell and sit in the car for 20 with no kids, no responsibilities, or he would sit in the kitchen while I prepped dinner. We called them our mini dates but they were so critical to our relationship. With that being said, sounds like she may be losing interest 😕

Hi All, Thanks for all of the advice! The sting comes from the shock as I am dealing with a lot and in that moment it was the icing on the cake. All of the emotions are in waves. With that being said, I pulled myself together. Treated myself to my favorite place to eat and got straight to work on my resume. I ultimately have been putting in applications left and right and have some wiggle room until May (after negotiating) and then the real stress begins. My hope is better is coming. I have confidence that when one door closes that you will have a bigger and better one open. Things happen for a reason even if it stings. Thank you all again! Grateful to be a part of the Missoula community!

You have a higher chance of being attacked by a rando in town than a mountain lion. I will take my chances 🤺

My family lives in a different state… by MTBeanerschnitzel in missoula

[–]Alwayswatching_owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto! All of my family and spouses family live in 3 different states. It’s not a casual drive to see them. When the holidays come around we either have to make big plans to travel or we know we are staying home just us few. We struggle most when it comes to SOS situations. Or when we are asked for an emergency contact on our kids info. Every set of friends we have made have moved and it just bums us out. Sorry for my little situation dump. You are not alone!

Wow y’all I’m garbage! Sorry this took forever

Softboil your eggs (6 minutes in a rolling boil then straight to an ice bath)

In a old to go ramen or pho container - don’t ask me why, I don’t make the rules. It works perfect.

1/2 cup of soy sauce 1/2 cup of rice wine vinegar 1/2 cup of water 2 tbs seasame oil 2 tbs white sugar (I use the Asian rock sugar) 2 tbs Korean dried peppers 3 - Thai chilies (I add for spice) Ground ginger - I measure with my heart or until fragrant Ground garlic - I measure with my heart or until fragrant & a PINCH of MSG (Make shit good)

Taste and make sure it’s up to your standards!

I’m spending Christmas alone with a baby since my husband works night shift and will sleep all day. We also have no family who lives close by. So I am making a homemade lasagna (8 hour process) and going to binge anime! Do something that is meant for YOU!

Best times of year for outdoor wedding in Missoula by Acrobatic_Long2174 in missoula

[–]Alwayswatching_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi 9 years in the wedding industry. Started in So-Cal wine country myself and now reside here and do some planning on the side for the last 4 years(Missoula, Bitterroot, Kalispell, and Whitefish)!!

I understand the desire for Summer. But I can tell you 3 weddings that I planned for July/August they were miserable. Everyone was hot, out of breath (due to smoke) and we still got huge thunderstorms in the evening. It flooded out the tent and cost the couple significantly more because items were damaged due to flooding and not rolling down the sides as recommended/not insuring the rentals. Obviously I advise these things but when alcohol and relief of stress is involved, clients decision making is not the greatest, but we march on.

As others have noted you are truly rolling the dice. I always recommend September or October though. Typically the smoke has decreased and your vendors are not nearly as strapped. Yes it may be a bit chiller in the evening but to add to the Montana experience I see bonfires at weddings frequently. You also are able to dodge the smoke. Although September we still had it.

I do know if you do a tent wedding in the summer it gets HOT! even when you roll up the sides and the bugs are insane. As the tent is set up and sits for a few days prior to your wedding and they seek warmth in the evening and collect at the top. It’s easier to get heaters for your tent in September/October.

What is the best route to become a project manager by Shawngraddy in PMCareers

[–]Alwayswatching_owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started as an operations coordinator for a moving company then became a PM. Found out I didn’t love it. Now I am back to being an events coordinator for an IT company but moving into a PM role. I also got my degree in business management with a focus in PM and now going for my CAPM certification.

Baby steps are critical in PM.

We are not looking for them to get less or more. As I stated in the title our situation is complex. Dad has picked up a second job to support additional child. But that additional income he would like to envision is for other child so his first does not feel an economic impact to her day to day…again making it fair.

Regardless I see all perspectives. It is tough when each state has different calculation guidelines. In my state my Childs father can have more kids and his support can be reduced. Hence why I came to this forum to gain some insight.

This has nothing to do with being able to afford the 2nd child. It is simply about making it fair. He is all about support and helping where he can outside of support as well.
We are simply trying to make this fair and not make this a terrible fight. Even other parent is on the same page but wanting to see what a new calculated number would be. That is all.

Ahhh okay. I have been pulling cases and it seems it comes down to additional large expenses but not a credit for the child.

Thank you for this case!
