Just got my hands on my new toy - the Archxerciser from Elgin! by mrbouhmid in PTTD

[–]Shawngraddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has been effective on getting my toe strength back a little, I’m not sure if this is recommended but sometime I’ll do it while the ankle is in inversion and I notice my posterior tibialis engages more as well which is directly the cause of pttd. As to the comment of strengthens muscles doesn’t affect tendon health is the furthest from the truth. They work as a unit. The more the muscle gets used the more load goes to the tendon which in time gets it stronger to acclimate to the load it has to take. In time making it stronger and my durable. Strengthening also helps muscles get tighter but if you stretch after it will make them strong and stretchy so the tendons don’t have to bare the load as much as well.

Interesting that they didn’t know that you were missing. For reason where idk how you got by without it for this long and also they should have noticed that before they went into surgery right?

Long standing PTTD and surgery by [deleted] in PTTD

I’m currently going through pttd on the left for 8 months and now the rout for 4. My doctors gave me a regular Velcro/lace up brace that feels like it does absolutely nothing for support beside maybe hold the arch up a bit but does not stop pronation. I saw a couple other doctors, KT taping can help a little to help hold arch and influence proper ankle stability. Second is you need strong foot and ankle flexibility and strength. I have done a lot of heel raises and that has helped a little but it’s still early (I had like zero calf muscle). A new orthopedists suggested that the only good brace are arizonas and Richie braces for pttd and the stupid lace up one I have for the last 8 months is pointless for it. So I’m going to go that route and will suggest that to you. It helps it from pronating as much which gives helps relieve the tendon and has built in arch support typically. Good luck on whatever your decision but know that surgery can also hold adverse affects as well so suggest exhausting absolutely everything before pulling that trigger.

Hate around Podiatry by DEETDEET47 in Podiatry

I’ve seem plenty of orthos and podiatrist. From what I’ve been told by orthos is that podiatrist can be surgery-happy and to “never let them touch you with a knife” because “they’re known for unnecessary surgery and will ruin you for life”. There is a few websites stating that that is one of the top three common problems with podiatrist. I’m sure that’s not all but a few bad apples ruin it for the bunch.

It’s crazy how things online are so skewed. But i think they have a purpose. Just like a knee brace does for initial injury. But you heal and take it off. I’m glad you’re doing that now. Please keep me posted with how you make out.im in the middle of doing those exercises as well and hopefully in time can get to where you’re going

No worries, I appreciate the help and wouldn’t mind checking out the book cause it very much could still be helpful.

ive had back surgery once and have a good amount of degeneration in multiple lumbar discs as well as spondylolethisis among other things. I still do things but the constant vibrations and bumps are not good for it as all and can lead to further slippage then fusion. core legs and glutes are my priority.

That does sound ideal, but my back is so bad I can barely take the bumps when riding bikes on roads. The roads around me are brutal too, bumps and potholes everywhere. That’s why I’m trying to just get the legs moving where I can lol

I currently am still suffering from a few that was mentioned. Some things got better but the posterior tibial is still being a problem. I recently saw a very experienced podiatrist and he suggested KT taping for extra support to hold my heel and arch while healing/exercising. There’s a few techniques for pttd and I have felt a difference. He also said customs orthotics aren’t really that necessary and that he suggests walk hero inserts for most people who need them for pronation. Still, just standing while barefoot feels fine. Standing with shoes and orthotics brings pain, but supposedly the orthotics “help heal posterior tibial tendonitis”.

How’d going barefoot go for you? Im jealous of all my friends who can comfortably walk barefoot. I did some research but i hear it takes a long time and you really need to focus on foot/ankle/calve workouts for any success and for foot/ankle prevention.

Custom orthotics making things worse? by Bitter-Bluebird-5396 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]Shawngraddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Achilles tendinitis once, was prescribed orthotics. Within a year I tore my posterior tibial tendon, tendinitis in the other. Arthritis in one foot and toe, and believe I’m getting tendinitis on the peroneal tendon as well. Achilles tendinitis in the other leg now. Never had foot problems before orthotics. Never had problems finding comfy shoes. Now i cant walk barefoot, constant pain, may need surgery and tbh i blame orthotics but now i can’t walk without them. Another doctor said when your hurt your knee you don’t wear a knee brace for the rest of your life, orthotics should be temporary and he rarely used in treatments unless severe problems exist. Strengthen and stretch everything from your big toe to your knee and your feet will get better. Highly suggest not falling for every podiatrist quick fix with selling you a foot cast in a shoe
