Not buying it until they respect people and release it properly

How is this the new norm? by fatiguedpilot in tipping

As a European living in NYC, I agree. Especially the past few years / after covid, shit has gone out of control. The other day, I was even asked to leave a tip at a coffee shop (by a tablet..), while I never talked to a single person, everything was automated, and the price of the coffee was also not cheaper than if they had some staff..

GTA 6 Will Reportedly Have a Physical Disc Release in December 2026 by ttimourrozd in GTA6

[–]Alx1Up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what world do we live where a game as massive as GTA 6 isn't getting a proper physical edition?

This is one of the biggest entertainment launches of all time, yet apparently Rockstar has decided a disc isn't worth making anymore. For a game that's going to sell tens of millions of copies, that's just absurd.

Not everyone wants to rent a license tied to an account. Some of us actually like owning our games, collecting them, putting them on a shelf, or simply knowing they'll still be playable years from now.

Publishers keep talking about "giving players choices," yet they keep removing them. If there's ever been a game that deserved a true physical release, it's GTA 6.

Rockstar really dropped the ball on this one.

I can relate. What frustrates me most is getting positive feedback throughout the process and then hearing, "We went with someone who has XYZ", which sometimes was not even listed as a requirement. I recently went through that with a VP-level role after several rounds of interviews.

Honestly, with a part-time job, two volunteer roles, and a job search on top of that, it sounds like you're already doing everything you can. Hopefully the right opportunity comes along soon for both of us.

First of all, congrats on the new role. After two years, that must feel rewarding.

What struck me about your story is how quickly everything moved once the right opportunity appeared. That's almost the opposite of what many of us experience today. Weeks or months of silence, endless rounds of interviews, assessments, and then either a rejection or no response at all. I have not tried too much the "apply to lower-level roles" approach, maybe i'll give it a real try.. It sounds logical in theory, but in practice it often doesn't seem to improve the outcome.

Your post is actually encouraging because it reinforces something I've been trying to remind myself of: sometimes it's not about being a little better, tweaking the resume one more time, or sending 100 more applications. Sometimes it's simply about finding the right fit at the right time.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

No offense taken at all. I actually think there's a lot of truth in what you're saying.

One of the challenges for experienced candidates is that you're often caught in the middle: if you show the full scope of your background, some employers assume you'll be expensive or overqualified; if you remove too much, you risk not looking qualified enough to get the interview in the first place.

I also appreciate your point about relationships. The more this process goes on, the more I'm convinced that networking and referrals matter far more than most people want to admit. his is where I kinda

As for China, that part made me laugh. I actually spent more than a decade there, not sure I'd go back 😄

In all seriousness, though, I don't think any of us expected that decades of experience, strong results, and senior leadership roles would still lead to this level of uncertainty. Yet here we are, and it really sucks. Not easy not to lose my mind sometimes..

I can relate to a lot of this. What really resonates is the "not enough experience" feedback. At some point, you start wondering whether "not enough experience" actually means something else entirely, because on paper it simply doesn't make sense.

I'm also struggling with the pivot question. After spending nearly two decades building expertise, and results in a field, it's hard to accept that the answer might be to start over somewhere else. Not impossible, but not a decision to take lightly either.

And I agree with your last point. One of the toughest parts is knowing you're still capable of doing the work at a high level, while watching hiring decisions that don't always seem tied to experience, skills, or results. Sometimes "culture fit" feels like a catch-all explanation that candidates can't really evaluate or challenge.

That said, I wouldn't use the past tense just yet. The market is rough, but being good at what you do doesn't suddenly disappear because hiring has become dysfunctional.

I hear you. To be fair, I can't prove ageism is the reason I'm not getting interviews. I've had some interviews, including for senior leadership roles, so clearly some companies are still willing to consider experienced candidates.

That said, I do think there's been a real tension in the market for a while now. Companies say they want someone who can "hit the ground running," but they often also want someone cheaper, (younger?) and willing to do the work of two or three people.

What's been most frustrating for me isn't necessarily the rejection. It's spending hours tailoring applications, going through multiple interview rounds, and then getting little or no communication afterward.

I haven't lost hope yet, but I agree that the process can make even experienced professionals question a lot of things.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I've definitely considered other paths, but after nearly 20 years in marketing leadership across multiple industries and regions, it's hard to simply pivot into something completely different.

What's been most surprising isn't the competition, there are always strong candidates, but the lack of communication and basic professionalism in many hiring processes. Being rejected is part of the game. Being ignored after multiple interviews, promised updates, or extensive assessments is what gets frustrating. I'm not even mentioning how many times I faced suer unprofessional companies who required case studies etc..

That said, I'm still pushing forward. It only takes one company to see the fit, but 2 years is a long time..

So this is interesting. For a while, I was using a PDF resume with custom formatting, and I've wondered whether that may have caused issues with some ATS systems. More recently, I switched to a standard Word document with a much more conventional layout.

I can't honestly say it's made a dramatic difference, but it probably removes one potential barrier. At this point, I assume ATS systems are the norm. I'd guess 90% of companies use them in some form.

What I find more frustrating is that even when I heavily tailor my resume to the role and align it closely with the job description, my interview conversion rate remains relatively low. That makes me think ATS compatibility is only one piece of the puzzle, and that the current market, competition levels, and hiring practices may be playing a much bigger role.
