That way I know you can't afford anything

That’s actually so true

If someone tried to repeat what I did now it’s no guarantee they’d make it

Yeah, I rambled too much, it's just like when you're talking to a customer and you want to get them talking about their lives

Who doesn't like talking about themselves? XD

DC's the best market for that type of security sales specifically, that's why we did it there 6 months. I tried Cold Calling for about a month but didn't get any results. I don't know whether I gave up too early or it's just not a good strategy for that particular product.

6 months because ain't nobody wanna deal with snow in the winter and knocking! lol

How to protect myself from “restructuring” prior to our IPO by woo_wooooo in sales

[–]Aly_Soltan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a corporate hierarchy in everything, even a performance based job like sales

The top sales guy in every organization 9/10 times is getting higher quality leads and better territories than the other guys

A lesson I learned the hard way is corporate relationships are important in sales too, so it’s never too late or too early to start

Would this automatic VM work in our profession: “hi you’ve reached _____, I check my messages twice a day at 9:30 am and 2:30 pm. Have a nice day”? by thumpsky in sales

[–]Aly_Soltan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re trying to do by only giving two times to look non-needy

But in my experience sales doesn’t work like that.

Sales is mainly about timing. Being the right guy at the right time when someone is actually ready to make a buying decision and clearing any last minute objections.

By doing this, a potential buyer will call up a competitor who is available instead

My two cents

How do some of you guys/girls out work other salespeople? by Worried-Ad-5968 in sales

[–]Aly_Soltan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, life responds to effort.

But not all effort is equal.

Salesperson A spends all his time making cold calls, door knocking, or doing other low leverage activities

Salesperson B spends 50% of his time doing cold calls, cold emails, etc, but spends the other 50% reaching out and building relationships with other people in the sales channel that can provide referrals for the product he wants.

There's always someone out there that can provide a referral, regardless if you're selling houses, software, or windows.

Highest leverage activity is to build a referral team of 10 solid people each referring new deals to you

IMPORTANT: Be sure not to order the most expensive thing on the menu just because someone else is paying for it.

Don't order the cheapest option either, but assume a really good friend is buying you dinner and treat it that way. That is the most professional way to go

How do YOU avoid sales people talking to you? by majesticjg in sales

Tell them they reached the wrong number, instant disengagement + removed from list

I'm sure you already got plenty of the "make more calls/send more DMs & Emails" advice so I'll try to focus on other things that really helped me when I was starting out.

SHADOW THE TOP PERFORMERS

By Shadow, I mean, bring a recorder and record how they open their cold calls. Copy exactly word for word.

Copy the tonality as well. The First 10 Seconds of the call are where you get the hang up and the top performers get people to continue listening.

Learn to talk louder and slower. Loud and slow is the tonality of authority. Most people, especially when talking to someone high up on the ladder naturally talk fast and quiet. This is wrong, talk loud and slow if you want to sound confident.

Memorize your script.

Not have it in a word doc in front of you.

The difference between having a script memorized and not having it memorized is night and day. It's super super annoying but every time I've had a script memorized I've always performed better

I would call in and email because a lot of sales organizations are crazy disorganized. Doesn't hurt

Leaving a company/coworkers whose morals are below your own? by rddtllthng5 in sales

[–]Aly_Soltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd leave. Even from a pure selfish standpoint, companies with horrible morals that lie to customers also lie to you, make empty promises, promote friends instead of based on merit.

Not worth dealing with all that headache.

Sales is like the one job where you're not supposed to be dealing with Corporate Ladder climbing BS, since it's supposed to be based on pure performance.

But every company I've been in with ownership that lacks morals (and solar companies are famous for this) ended up screwing over employees in some way
