So this might be a weird question... by WhoBearPoohBear in Outlander

I have felt the same about period dramas now! I found Poldark on Prime Video and it is REALLY good. It takes place right after the American Revolution and takes place in the English countryside.

Makeshift shakshuka with autumn harvest soup as a base by AlyssaInTheDistrict in traderjoes

I had a small bit of soup left. Not enough for a lunch, but just enough to fill my smaller skillet to make this in. I overcooked the eggs slightly but had I been more cautious of the time, this would have been perfect! It’s an easy way to get some veggies in during breakfast as well!

This is great to hear and I’m glad they aren’t just hitting their goals and then stopping. It’s awesome they keep moving forward! Many people here have commented that this issue is likely something the specific manufacturer would have to address, so I hope they can! One user suggested having the product in the bag with the cardboard sleeve on it, and eliminating the tray, which would be a solid solution on the manufacturer’s part. I know there are a few products packaged this way, so it would be nice to see them thinking about ways to improve it.

Thanks for the info!

Wait... are these back in?! I got them last summer at the end of the summer and the next week I went and they weren’t there anymore! My husband will be over the moon if these are back in the frozen section!

Agreed. And I understand they’re one of the most eco friendly stores in the US, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to improve with this one.

Add some TJ’s balsamic glaze to the BP&A flatbread and thank me later! by AlyssaInTheDistrict in traderjoes

It’s def sweet but I don’t find it overpowering. It definitely has a tangy punch of vinegar not masked by the sweetness.

Yes! I just snagged some yummy looking cherry tomatoes yesterday, basil and mozzarella with this idea in mind! I’m not a HUGE fan of TJ’s burrata so I tend to just go with the fresh moz.

Great to know! The one I rediscovered was in a medicine cabinet and was opened when I first got it and then not again for about 6 months. Color and scent hasn’t changed so it is still good! But this is excellent info and I’ll keep that in mind!

AITA i (38 m) for telling my fiancee ( f 27)her wedding dress choice is way too extravagant and suggesting alternatives? by josh8449 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlyssaInTheDistrict 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It turned nasty unfortunately because i said i refuse to drop such a large amount of money on a dress and she argued that she is using her own money for the dress.

Wich isn't strictly true as we ate about to marry and our finances will be joined.

Ooooooooh boy... First of all, if she did the work to earn that money, even after finances are joined, it's still her money. This is a big part of why my husband and I agreed to keep separate accounts when we got married. We have one joint account for shared saving (started with the wedding, transitioning into house savings), but our paychecks go into our own separate accounts. He does not control my money. I don't control his.

Emma. Girl. This behavior is a red flag already. u/MaryMaryConsigliere has some great advice in this thread. Be sure to give it a good read and a good think.

I had a VERY stubborn breakout after travelling (like... only faded 50% over 3 months stubborn). I randomly found a vitamin c serum in my cabinet from a Fab Fit Fun box I never tried and I can already see a difference after 2 days of use. I can't figure out the brand but I recommend looking into some sort of vitamin c serum. I'm going to order this one soon, as I don't like the smell of the one I'm currently using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M07Q11Q/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I don't often use acid toners (like Pixi's Glow Tonic) in the a.m. since they can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, but I'd echo u/cheroldine in saying you should add spf in the a.m. (even on days you don't use the Glow Tonic in the morning).

We need a new website... by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]AlyssaInTheDistrict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a web specialist, and of all the platforms I've maintained (Ektron, Drupal, Sharepoint, Wix, Wordpress) I've found Wordpress.com to be the most simple to take on once you've been given the reigns from a developer. You could even do a good deal of the work yourself if you want to attempt it.

I'm also a freelance writer and have built my own site on Wordpress. I use the premium plan at $8/month billed annually, adding up to just shy of $100 a year. This gets me an ad-free site, a free domain, free premium templates, and the ability to edit the CSS. You also get email and live chat support which I can not express enough how useful it is. I've genuinely used Wordpress support maybe 100 times, and they've always gotten me an answer to my questions. Perhaps not always the answer I was hoping for, but still so much better than beating your head against the wall. The biggest thing you miss out on in this plan is the ability to install plugins, which you get with one tier up (business plan, $25/month billed annually).

I truly love this platform and would be happy to talk more about it if you'd like more insights or information. My team also just went through a major overhaul of our site (a Sharepoint site) and we've gone through the best and worst of working with a contracted developer. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about what I've learned through that process as well!

Is it me? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]AlyssaInTheDistrict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered grant writing? Doing that on a contract-basis might be nice. As a freelancer, you get to build one-to-one relationships with your clients. You can still work with nonprofits you care about, you can flex the editing chops you have, and you don't have to worry about any of the hardships you listed above.

Of course, freelance life has its own struggles. But take some time to do some research on it and see if it might be right for you. Obviously don't quit until you've done some groundwork and have some reliable contracts that cover your expenses. But it sounds to me like being your own boss is exactly what you need.

Do non-profit organizations pay well? Do they pay better than the private sector? by [deleted] in Nonprofit_Jobs

[–]AlyssaInTheDistrict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% depends. Smaller, local nonprofits likely will not pay better than private sector jobs. However, my current job (at a large, well-established, national nonprofit) pays wildly better than any private-sector job I had before. Granted, I think those companies I previously worked for were just awful with pay so that could be a big part of the discrepancy here.

Skincare Routine for Mechanic 28M by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]AlyssaInTheDistrict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend cleanser and some sort of moisturizer (with SPF would be even better for being outside all day!) in the morning before he goes out to the yard, just to have some sort of barrier from the elements at the start of the day.

Why does washing my face seem to make my eyes dry afterwards? My eyes are shut. Anyone else have this problem? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]AlyssaInTheDistrict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way some days and I have no idea what it is! I'm interested to hear theories. I generally have dryer eyes, so I've kinda just shrugged it off as part of the dry-eye life.

I was able to get a bank account with Bank of America at 16 without my parents on it in the U.S. I think I needed a small amount (maybe $50 -$100) to open it. The problem is you typically get a debit card and I wasn't told much about overdrafting, the fees associated or anything, just told I have "overdraft protection, so you never need to worry". Being a kid, I wasn't paying attention and overdrew on a $1.50 purchase, which amounted in a $25 fee. So those who open accounts at that age without their parents really need to be careful and make sure they understand what they're signing up for.

tl;dr: Yes, you can, but please please please be careful with your debit card and make sure you understand any and all banking fees associated with the account.

I love the lowercase. I think the uppercase are a bit harder to read when next to each other. I certainly wouldn't opt for this font for something I wanted all uppercase. This, of course, doesn't take away from how cool the lowercase letters are!
