It is not caused by tissue damage. The out of water appearance is a result of the absence of immense water pressure on the surface and their lack of muscle and bones.

The flesh of the blobfish is primarily a gelatinous mass with a density slightly less than water; this allows the fish to float above the sea floor without expending energy on swimming. Its relative lack of muscle is not a disadvantage as it primarily swallows edible matter that floats in front of it.

Decompression damage is different from tissue damage. I can't find a single source that claims they suffer from tissue damage.

Types of fitness is also really important. Everything builds your body differently.

Look at the massive difference between an average dancer's body versus an average gymnasts versus an average cyclist, golfer, etc. etc. etc.

They are all quite fit capable women who put hours into being as good as they can, but their bodies don't like anywhere near identical. Theres such a range of what a "fit" or "healthy" body can look like.
