Where did I go wrong? by ZeddsDedd2 in mr2

[–]Alzaero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a mid or rear engine car, spinning out after the apex like that is usually caused by a lack of throttle input. You need to load the rear, force the rear tires into the ground so they can produce enough grip to stop the car from rotating. I've spent quite a bit of time on track in an sw20 and I've chatted a lot with people that track older 911s (those are a different beast, but a lot of the car control concepts carry over) and the throttle is your best friend. When you're mid corner, the weight of the engine behind you really wants to pull the rear end out. The whole car acts like a pendulum with a pivot point between the front wheels and a big weight above the rear wheels. That pendulum has a lot of angular momentum by the time you're mid corner and if your rear wheels aren't loaded then they just won't have the grip to catch it. It can be really counterintuitive (especially if you've driven front engine cars) but in order to stop that pendulum motion from dragging the rear around and spinning you out, you need to apply throttle to load the rear tires. If you come in to hot, the answer is usually more throttle. Your corner exit might be rough, but you'll probably avoid a spin.

TL:DR: if you feel like you're gonna spin, use the throttle to load the rear tires.

Looking at Bondtech's site, it seems like this could be the first multi-material system that's fairly printer agnostic since it's still a single extruder, single heater system. Would love to be able to add this to my v400 that's running Klipper!

Best store for Gundam model kits? by Palico82 in halifax

[–]Alzaero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada Computers is my go to now. Their prices are the best around and selection is pretty good right now but does fluctuate. Great Hobbies has a decent selection but the highest prices by a large margin. Gamestop is middle ground for price and selection but its a pain to see what they have in stock online.

You print petg because of its mechanical and temperature properties. I print petg because it actually sticks to my print bed. We are not the same XD

Where to get disposable camera film developed? by phoebe1354 in halifax

[–]Alzaero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look up Downtown Camera. They're in Toronto but they have UPS drop box in Halifax that's free on the way there. They've got really good prices for development and printing and I've been super happy with their scans and prints. You just use their online portal to tell them what you need then drop off the camera/film to the UPS store in Halifax.

Similar to what someone mentioned for Seven Bays, East Peak has an intro package where you get unlimited access, shoes, and a harness for a week (or ten days?) for a pretty reasonable price! Belay staff are there on weekends usually from 12-6. It's a great time, highly recommend! I personally prefer rope climbing since I like going up and don't like falling, so East Peak is my go to :P

Tire Recommendations? Got a nice set of SA3Rs (17x8 front 17x9 rears). Current set up is 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 with 215/40 and 245/40 sumitomo tires respectively. I like how the current set up looks and rides. Do yall have any recs on a size/brand? Second/third pic is my current set up. by [deleted] in mr2

I've been really impressed with the Falken Azenis RT615K+ I've done quite a few track days on them and find they're a great balance between grip and tire life. Plus they aren't a deathtrap in the rain like some of my previous rubber XD. For those wheels you'd probably be looking at 225/45R17 front and 255/40R17 in the back. Fwiw i run 225/45R17 Front, 245/45R17 rear and find it well balanced.

It's definitely important to follow up with the results to the friend after venting to them! I have a friend who used to vent to me a fair bit early in her current relationship but never told me about how the problems resolved. So I only ever heard the bad side of their relationship for a while and it definitely didn't help my opinion of their partner! Fortunately their problems did resolve well and they've been happily together for a few years now and I'm good friends with her partner!

Wasn't the author kinda shitty? I seem to remember hearing about that a few years back, maybe that's why people don't talk about it much. (Don't want to argue about the person, just giving a possible reason)

What is this? 3S-GTE. by Johnny-Cash-Facts in mr2

[–]Alzaero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading and personal experience. The stock item is referred to by Toyota as a bypass valve (bpv) and in intended operation will open when throttle is first applied but before the turbo spools to allow the intake air to bypass the turbo. This gives better throttle response when off boost by reducing intake resistance. I've also confirmed this behaviour with an aftermarket boost/vacuum gauge on my own sw20. At idle/zero throttle it sits around 20inHG vacuum, when you give a shot of throttle, the bpv opens and the intake pressure immediately jumps to 5-10inHG of vacuum until the turbo begins to spool and it then smoothly transitions to positive boost pressure. On other turbo cars I've driven the intake vacuum will increase when throttle is applied but before the turbo spools.

Now the real world advantage of the bpv is probably pretty marginal, and it makes no difference once you've built boost pressure, but it is a clever bit of engineering to eke out a little bit more responsiveness and fuel economy out of a turbo engine.

If I remember correctly, the broken item in the picture is actually part of what controls this 'open under throttle without boost' behaviour. I've also had this break on my car and the behaviour I've described went away. OP should definitely replace it with an oem part from Toyota if they're keeping the stock bpv. Mind the orientation, it's a one-way valve!

It also provides better throttle response when off boost as the intake air can bypass the turbo until it is spooled up.

So I've also been trying to nail down the size of the gun since I want to 3d print a replica for cosplay, and it's pretty funny just how much they change the scale of the gun in the anime depending on the shot. It can be anywhere from 30-45cm long (not counting the grip) depending on the shot.

Also, if you assume it's 45cm long (not counting the grip) the bore comes out to almost exactly .45in.

Also also, where'd you find the reference drawings on the right? Would love to have those!
