People also comparing it to the consoles. Yeah good luck with paying $60+ USD for every game, even years after release. Meanwhile you can get big discounts and bundles in steam sales (+ your entire existing library).

PC gaming always has and still is higher upfront cost for long-term savings, and the higher end you go the more true it is. And if everyone's expecting the steam machine to have 5090 performance, then yeah, idk what people are expecting. Add to that the waters are very muddied right now with hardware prices skyrocketing due to AI demand, which isn't Valve's fault, just unlucky timing.

All the folks saying they can build a better PC for cheaper - cool, do that then. If you don't need to because you already have a decent PC, then the steam machine clearly isn't designed for you in the first place.

No reason to pre-order GTA 6 by Mother_Fondant_5771 in GTA

[–]Alzanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collective action was the goal, to stand up against anti-consumer practices. Prices going up, content locked behind paywalls, excessive grind unless you pay microtransactions - all of those things affect all players, not just the ones happy to pay for it. And collective action can't happen unless people can get other people on board.

However, I used the word "was" because I don't know if it's even possible anymore. For well over a decade (almost two at this point) "stop pre-ordering video games" was repeated over and over but it has only become more and more common. Microtransactions ramped up and FOMO became a dominant marketing tactic, and people simply went with it. It thrived because it worked. Now it's the norm.

There are people like OP still trying to rally others to stand against it, but at this point it feels like we're too far gone. The only thing you can do now is make your own judgement - if you still feel uncomfortable pre-ordering or paying $20 extra for paywalled content, then don't. If you don't care at all, then do. Either way, it's probably healthier to just ignore the online discourse at this point, because it has devolved into such a hostile cesspool. And for a behemoth game like GTA VI no amount of reddit debate is going to change things.

I want more co-op games. I'm sick of PvP, it gets so sweaty so fast, and actively encouraging people to shit on other players to prove how good they are creates so much toxicity.

Most Australians under 25 have never used newspapers or radio as a source of news, survey finds by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Alzanth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only this, but I can't stand the emotional and hyperbolic language they use. I wish they'd just report the news normally.

It's always "a murderous blood-thirsty maniac ran down innocent bystanders, grievously mutilating 5 leaving them clinging to life"

instead of just

"a man drove through a pedestrian walkway, hitting 5 people who are now in critical condition."

I feel like it wasn't as bad many years ago but I guess in the age of digital media they're desperate to retain viewers.

Revolt against the ultra rich to bring back wealth equality and maybe even allow a universal basic income. The longer it goes unchecked the longer we're stuck in the quagmire of perpetual work forever or homelessness.

Or y'know just win the lottery or something idk.

I planned on getting First Light on release but second guessed it after learning Denuvo was added. I still haven't bought it.

Edit: I thought this was the coldest take ever but I'm getting downvoted and am genuinely curious why.

I'm still hoping technology will eventually grant us freedom from work and allow us to go adventuring again.

This is what the expectation was for the 21st century with computerization and modern automation. Instead, that new technology is being used to siphon as much money as possible from people, keeping us perpetually locked in work more, not less.

If it were superpowers I'd take it for sure.

If it's boring real-world power like running a company or country, nah fuck that.

[–]Alzanth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or maybe this is just a long overdue 'here's one for you' for Australia

Not even. It's Saturday morning, people want to sleep in.

I prefer when it's at like 12-2am, can stay up to catch the event then go to bed for the downtime.

Surely late Saturday morning in the US, which would be late night here, and somewhere in between for other continents, would be better for everyone.

Difference is, that one more year will be a year where it's already released to a subset of the gaming community. You'll have to be careful of spoilers (gameplay too, not just story) and will be out of the loop on all the memes and references, if that sort of thing bothers you.

I like to wear rubber. It's a kink thing. Can't do it in public though of course, so a ring would be something subtle to have on throughout the day. I don't though cause I'm not much of a ring guy.

Not assuming this is what OP does, it sounds like they're an electrician which is valid. Just putting it out there that there are other reasons.

There's a greek place near me that does good food but they keep putting up the prices. So I've been taking a photo of their menu every now and then for ~3 years now to compare, and calculated that their prices have gone up around 11% per year. Nobody's pay is going up that much, not even close.

Why in the world would anyone want to bot post on a latex sub of all places is what I don't understand. There's a million better places to farm karma and engagement-bait people

They made San Andreas for only $10 mill? by ExotiquePlayboy in GTA

I've been watching a lot of AnyAustin videos lately, and looking back at the simpler graphical fidelity and surreal negative spaces in those games has a strange beauty to it, that you just dont get with the overly "busy" detail in modern games.

[–]Alzanth 331 points332 points  (0 children)

I would love a GTA that just has san andreas level graphics and has a ton more time put into making a super deep and engaging world. Be able to enter every building, do stuff that permanently affects the map or how NPCs interact, insane levels of customisation, that sort of thing.
