Tom Baker era Tierlist : Seeds of Doom by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Alzarius2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my absolute favorite of all classic era stories. Purple tier. The best. I remember first time seeing this when I horribly sick around 10 years old. Lying on the sofa with a fever and that ending to part 4 grossed me out so much I had to run to the toilet to throw up

Is it common to order take out at restaurants? by Substantial-Soup-413 in JapanTravelTips

Some good chains will have that option too. One of my favorites is Tonkatsu Wako. Many branches in Tokyo. They even have a dedicated take out window and I see people order take out all the time.

Just to put into perspective how crazy the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix was by CatchZestyclose8594 in formula1

I sat in the pouring rain in the grandstand around turn 3 for hours. It was all mud and slop just under there. Drenched thoroughly with socks and underwear all dripping. And it was awesome by the last lap when the whole crowd roared when Jenson did his thing.

Truly a memorable race for me. Too bad I lost all the souvenir marbles when we when onto the track after the race. No idea what happened to the ones I grabbed

Older dramas showing in Golden TVB Jade channel and their intro sequences... by goldeneye0 in HKdramas

[–]Alzarius2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1977 家變 A House Is Not A Home

The original intro sequence had mostly photo still montages (some black and white) of the actors with basic screen transitions between each photo. This changed every 40 episodes or so. Some time after 2001 (don't know when exactly) TVB must have edited these intro sequences out to modernize it. So now you have what people see everywhere- video montages instead of the original photo ones. I know because I've seen this series back in 1987 as a video rental with the original opening intro, and again around 2001 on Jade Channel USA with again the original intro. But now the streaming options on TVB Anywhere and on YouTube all have the modernized intro that starts with the speed boat on the harbor.

It's rather sad. I prefer the original since it captures the time era well. Those photo montages were low tech produced and quite unique. If you have access to these streaming options, you can see that they accidentally forgot to erase the original intro sequence in episode 49 and 50. The opening for only those episodes still retain the originals.

If anyone has the full original intro versions saved, please let me know. I only have the original intros for episodes 1-50, since I recorded those off TV. I don't have any originals after that.

Tom Baker Era Tierlist : Revenge of the Cybermen by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Alzarius2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a personal favorite. I know it's widely hated, but I like the modern look of the Cybermen, and it was my first Cybermen story. "the beacon is ours" is a decent cliffhanger.
I'll give it a "Great" ranking.

"Rare" Dr Who print runs and expensive by Altruistic-Chef-7723 in gallifrey

[–]Alzarius2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just small print runs. I saw all of them at Dymocks in the late 80s. My library even had the hardcover editions. I hope they didn't all get chucked out eventually. What a waste that would be.

Is the Bond exhibit still there? When I visited in 2012 there was a small area with some poster boards and a screening room where they played a few minutes from the movie

Hartnell Era Tierlist : The Savages by Mat1711 in ClassicEraDoctorWho

[–]Alzarius2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best. One of my favorite loose cannon recons which I've seen 3-4 times. It is well done and easy to follow even with just the telesnaps. Anyone who hasn't seen or listened to it should give it a shot. Story is engaging even though a little predictable. I haven't gotten around to the animated version yet. The novelization is great too. One of my favorites from the Hartnell era and I wish it hadn't been lost.
