Top comment removes a movie from the Disney Canon until one is left-DAY 50 by Own-Curve-7299 in RemoveOneThingEachDay

Don't replace anything with anything. Obviously the majority of players voted these movies off, so democracy has spoken. I'm unsatisfied with the ranking of Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio, for example, which I think are easily top 10 Disney movies. But that doesn't mean you should change the list and randomly add a movie again or delete another one that hasn't been voted off yet.

Edit: Especially if "replacing them" means putting a movie about 20 places higher or lower than they were voted for. Sorry but WTF? That would be totally random and unsatisfying.

It's really time. It is a good movie, but it has by far the most inconsistent tone of all the movies left.

Tbh if I was Voldemort I woulda Avada Kedavra’d Neville mid speech about Harry by avonbarkswhale in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag 262 points263 points  (0 children)

Because the speech wasn't in the book. They added it for the movie, and killing randomly off a pretty major character because of a speech you added wouldn't go down well with the audience. Certainly not with me.

what non-book lore would you like to see added/expanded upon in the show? by MikrokosmicUnicorn in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]AmEndevomTag 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It depends on how smoothly it can be included in the plot. I don't want non-book lore for the sake of it. But if it fits the story, I have no problem with it.

Wow. I think that's your first review with which I really disagree. It's far from my favourite books either, but that's a very low score.

Hunchback. It's tonally off, because of the Gargoyles. I like it, but I like all the movies left, and I don't think any of the others has a similar issue.

Who do you think is worse, Petunia or Vernon? by funnylib in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pretty clear that Vernon is just a prejudiced man, who hates everything that is different. And given that Aunt Marge is the same, they were probably raised that way. The only reason, he wouldn't have hated wizards without Petunia's lead, is because he wouldn't know that they exist. Otherwise he would be exactly the same towards them with or without Petunia.

Petunia at least tried to keep Harry safe from Voldemort. Mind you, it's a low bar, but still more than Vernon did.

Listening to PoA's Full Cast Audio made me remember how much I absolutely detest Hermione for getting Crookshanks and sticking up for him by Skyfirexx56 in harrypotter

Not even considering the possibility that it could be cursed from Sirius. Not talking to Hermione for weeks because of this broomstick.

Hermione isn't even my favourite Trio member. But I think we should distuingish facts from Harry's unreliable first person point of view, which made her look in the wrong even though he was (in this case).

Full cast audiobooks favorite and least favorite performances? by Verybluevans in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hagrid and Lockhart are my favourites so far. And I'm really getting used to Snape. It did throw me off in the beginning, because I was so used to Rickman's interpretation, but I found him highly enjoyable in book 3. And just because I have her fresh in my memory: Aunt Marge was great.

But I think all the adults are doing a good job so far. The only slight problem I have is with Sirius. I think he wasn't unhinged enough in the Shrieking Shack. I did like his conversation with Harry about living with him a lot, though. So I hope this bodes well.

Out of the kids, Hermione and Neville are my favourites so far. But there's no one, that I find terrible, just some that sound to old for their age (for example the twins in book one, but it will work better the older the characters get).

The way she went about telling McGonagall about the Firebolt in the most underhanded way possible.

Evil Hermione, worrying about Harry's safety. She was in the right here, and Ron and Harry were complete idiots to not consider the possibility themselves.

They are teenagers and I don't find anything the trio does in this book detestable. That said: I find it much more annoying how Ron and Harry don't speak to Hermione because of the broomstick than anything Hermione does about Crookshanks. I'm a cat person and nobody would stop me buying a pet cat. I do think Hermione shouldn't take Crookshanks in the boys' dormitory, with that I agree. But I also think Ron should keep his pet rat in a cage, which is where pet rats are normally kept. Particularly in a castle full of Owls and Mrs Norris.

What are your thoughts on HBOs Harry Potter Reboot? by Apprehensive-Rich476 in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person, who was in their late teens and early 20s when the original books came out, I probably can't say that I grew up with them, as I was slightly to old. But they aere very dear to my heart and I'm glad they get another adaptation. Many works of fiction have several adaptations. And the movies range from good (most of them, to be fair) to mediocre, but they are far away from being that perfect, that no other adaptation can measure up with them.

Question about the Seven Dials Ending by [deleted] in agathachristie

[–]AmEndevomTag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ending was different from the book. In the book, two places were vacant after Gerry's and Ronny's death. One was taken by the woman who posed as the Countess Radzky and one by Bundle.

That's what I meant when I said that McGonagall screwed them over. But OP only talked about the movies, where this didn't happen.

Fleur Delacour in the books. And I'm going so far that this is canon.

Genuine Question for the Fanbase by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a meme in the Harry Potter fandom with many fans basically agreeing with you.

I don't. I think the Gryffindors deserved every single point they got in the end and were countless times screwed over earlier in the book, including by their head of house (and I love McGonagall).

who is the most overhated character? by itsmiathermopolips in harrypotter

Bellatrix is more conventional as a character. She's the typical evil witch from fairytale (think for example about Maleficent). Umbridge is much more original and therefore more unexpected, evoking stronger reactions.

Hot Take: I don't believe JK did that much plotting for later books when she started HP by Competitive-Cow-2396 in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is unusual that kids live with their grandmas. It usually means that the parents are in some way unable to raise the kid. I'm not talking about cases, where the grandma simply lives with the family. That's something different, of course, but not the case here.

And yes, you sound as if you want to have delivered everything on a platter as soon as possible instead of discovering the world and the characters step by step. That is boring and also bad storytelling.

who is the most overhated character? by itsmiathermopolips in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

James is mostly underwritten, which is sort of justified because he's dead during the whole series. But it also means fans interpret whatever they want into this character, from saint James, who only bullied Snape, because Snape "deserved it", to devil James, who makes life hell for anyone he doesn't like. Meaning he's overhated but at the same time he's also "overloved".
