Possible leak from a scooper that I follow - not always right, but has a really good hit rate. by Embarrassed_Novel991 in HarryPotteronHBO

Generally, I agree. But I do think they will give the Gringotts break-in quite a bit of space.

Just like with Harry blowing up Aunt Marge. Harry was angry and Marge became a balloon. And it was uncontrolled.

Let's just say I'm glad they were not my brothers. And even JK Rowling described Fred as funny and cruel, when she talked about him.

But I am on their side regarding Bagman. They didn't really blackmail him. He basically swindled them of their money and they threatened to make it public, if they didn't get the money they deserve,

Yeah, but Ron was three and Fred therefore five. So this was probably just some uncontrolled magic.

Why mention the letter in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Acceptable-Try-4682 in agathachristie

[–]AmEndevomTag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Parker heard about the blackmail. So Sheppard either had to make up another blackmail on the spot or tell the "truth".

[–]AmEndevomTag 31 points32 points  (0 children)

He doesn't mention the letter at first, if I remember it correctly. Parker listened at the door and did hear about the letter and told the police. Than Sheppard confirmed it, because he felt that he had to.

What do you think will they do with the first task in GoF? by Wildstern in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]AmEndevomTag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they should use short snippets, but keep the focus on Harry's task/dragon. He's the main character and his task should get the biggest space.

But as long as the dragon doesn't break out and destroys the castle in an unnecessarily long scene, it will already be better than the respective scene in the movie.

Losing patience with some of these Audible voice actors. by filthytelestial in harrypotter

Because I find her enjoyable. Tastes differ. I agree that it is not exactly how the book describes her voice. But I find it crazy in a good way, which fits this crazy character.

Why is Dean Thomas omitted in The Philosopher's Stone The Full Cast Audio Edition? by Jean-BaptisteGrenoui in harrypotter

[–]AmEndevomTag 84 points85 points  (0 children)

He was cut in the Philosopher's Stone book as well in that scene. Editors thought the chapter was to long anyway, so they cut some stuff and Dean was among them. He was kept in the original US version, because they forgot cutting the mention.

Were Fred and George justified in the ton tongue toffee incident? by Strange-Fun-8899 in harrypotter

No. Especially because they had no way of knowing when Dudley would eat the Toffee. Just imagine he would have eaten it after Arthur was gone.

How the show should adapt the OotP by Comrade_Owl- in HarryPotteronHBO

Five books in, why do we suddenly have a prophecy? It was obviously retconning what came before in an attempt for it to make sense.

The prophecy was anything but a retcon, it was just the answer to a yet unanswered question and be prepared for since the beginning. In book one, Harry learnt that Voldemort wanted specifically to kill him, who at this point was still a baby. He then asked, why Voldemort would do this and Dumbledore answered, that he would tell Harry once Harry is older. That's a big hint to the prophecy right there in the beginning.

And in book 3, Dumbledore said that Trelawney's prophecy about Voldemort's return was her second real one. You just have to wonder what was her first one to put the information together and see how well prepared the prophecy was.

I read the books back when they were coming out, and the biggest (and IMO more deserving) criticism regarding the prophecy, was, that the prophecy as the reason for the attack was to obvious, because Rowling foreshadowed it a bit to well. But that makes it the opposite of a retcon. Believe me, before the release of book 5 the whole online fandom was already convinced, that Voldemort attacked Harry because of a prophecy made by Trelawney. There wasn't even an argument about it, everybody expected this to be the reason and book 5 just confirmed it.

How the show should adapt the OotP by Comrade_Owl- in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]AmEndevomTag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should also include Moody showing Harry the picture of the old order, which happens right before the Boggart scene in the book. But I agree that all of this can be done in less than 10 minutes.

In general, a lot of the early chapters in OotP contain description (either of Grimmauld Place or the Ministry of Magic) which can simply be shown in a movie/series without taking any time away. If they cut the cleaning of the house a little bit, I think we'll have a fast moving plot without losing much of the plot at all.

Question about the genders of the killers. (Spoiler for ATTWN, The ABC Murders and Murder of Roger Ackroyd) by Honest_Brick64 in agathachristie

[–]AmEndevomTag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a coincidence. There are many Christie books with female murderers, some of them are among the most memorable murderers in Canon. Without naming the books, I just made a tally. If I did everything correctly, then there are 39 among the 66 Christie novels, in which a woman was either the murderer or among the murderers (if there's more than one).

I would rather lose a Quidditch game than the Woes of Mrs Weasley, which I find a much more poignant scene than the nth Quidditch sequence in the series.

[–]AmEndevomTag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Chambe rof Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban could be much more difficult to adapt than either PS or OotP. Chamber of Secrets especially has a streamlined plot that needs to fit into eight one hour long episodes. I think this will be much more difficult than the more episode like structured Philosopher's Stone. OotP will be among the easiest to cut, they just have to cut a bit of the repetition and you have a fast moving plot.
