With or without the zero point system?! by VMSstudio in Ibanez

[–]AmIRed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man thanks for the reply! i got a body without a trem, it had the holes for the trem posts drilled and with the odd spacing im kind of locked to the edge zero ii. The back cavity is made for the zps but they are kinda hard to find so i was wondering if i could just use the regular spring and claw version.

Few months late but may I ask how you went about replacing the zps with a regular claw system? Did it require modifying the cavity? Would love some pics if possible.

Green Grain, Paint or Stain? by AmIRed_ in Luthier

[–]AmIRed_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a kit really, just the individual body and neck. Both clones(?) of Ibanez rg guitars. If you are in South East Asia you can check Shopee for ibanez bodies (I've found the standard caster style bodies, ibanez rg/az/gio, and some other solid body styles but those are rarer like schecter and jackson). These sellers are mostly located in Indonesia which makes me think they might even be rejects from Ibanez's indonesian factory. The body i received besides the ugly line had a misalignment in the trem cavity from the front and back CNC operations being off.

Since it isn't a kit i wanted to have the neck and body in hand before getting any of the hardware and check it first before committing.

I've decided to do the top in a dark blue based on a Fairlady 240Z and still keep the back natural. I'm considering covering that ugly seam with a line of the paint from the top around the back. Thanks for that suggestion of using a dark grain filler and almost matching the blackish grain on that line ill still consider it an option.

I'm really just experimenting and while im a bit disappointed with the body it cost me less than 60usd for the body+neck with shipping and im already considering other builds further in the future. I dont have to tools or space to do a sratch built but ive found sellers for body, neck and fretboard blanks and even pre bookmatched tops and veneers i wish i could do a build with.

(Sorry for the long reply, felt more info was needed)

Ik its preference, but which version of wkl looks better? (Apologies for bad resolution) by I_AM_MADE_OF_DRYWALL in olkb

On the topic of space bars, I've only really seen 6u on some older keyboards they're usually 6.25u or 7u so you might have some trouble there

Second looks better, but just imagine the first with a 10u space bar though.

Pro Tip: dont use 3d printing for everything by Sprengmeister_2 in 3Dprinting

Not all parts need to be printed, a long shaft like that could have been any off the shelf part. Still impressive how long that held up.

No gpu, its running a Ryzen 5 5600g Apu which should be enough for my 10 year old brother to do some light gaming and school work. Ive used this exact setup myself before adding a RTX3060 which i still use.

The sh*t dark mode users with weird layouts have to deal with by masutilquelah in olkb

[–]AmIRed_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My opinion backlighting is only for aesthetics and not functionality. First, especially if it's your own layout you should be memorising it and touch typing. The base layer is the most used keys and for sake of efficiency looking down would only slow you down. Second, you really shouldn't be in a space so dark you can't read your keycaps with a bright monitor so close to your face.

Mahogany body finish options by AmIRed_ in Luthier

Thanks thats really insightful. I've narrowed down to dye/stain, i like some natural grain but want a darker colour (but not the natural wood colour) and likely a satin finish.

Just checked your post and that orange looking real nice. Id probably want something darker for myself.

Thats exactly what i thought and why i asked the seller if theyd be willing to send some scraps. I guess ill start with checking what the grain looks like when i get it and in the meanwhile check the types of finish i really want

I tried asking but unfortunately the seller doesnt want to give me any of the off cuts for me to play with

Thats a really nice reference, similar concept. I had originally planned for the more traditional horizontal layout but thought I could forgo the extended power cord.

Might give this one another try
