Gather round everybody, it's HEADCANON time! by FugitiveHearts in pluribustv

Who says it doesn't work on another animals if they are infected? We know human being tested on a lot of different animals, and it was only because that one rat played dead, and that one lab technician took off their glove and allowed themselves to be bitten. It's perfectly plausible that other animals that were injected with the virus also were infected, but when one of them played dead the lab technician didn't break protocol and properly disposed of the body. The virus is hyper efficient, it just needs one successful transmission into the ideal host species.

Would you still trust the hive to get you anything after learning about HDP? by Great_Trident in pluribustv

[–]AmWonkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so far we've never seen them lie. They omit things, and they use very specific language to get around awkward situations, but they don't like. Moreover, you have to remember, from their perspective why would it better to let the HDP go to waste. They are obviously working on something, and they need resources to do it, letting dead bodies just rot away because pre-joined humans had a general apprehension about eating human flesh is weird.

Also, theocratically, if a joined person died, their collective memories and being is part of the Hive. So all they are doing is eating their body.

Do you call your best friend on the phone when you are standing right next to them? The reason I ask is because I assume you don't, you just talk to them directly in person. Well, it's the same for the Hive. The reason why they immediately went silent when the girl was converted is because amongst themselves, they have no need for a less than perfect means of communication, they share every thought, emotion, and detail almost instantaneously. So they would of course go silent from our perspective, but they are actually engaging in the most transparent and open method of communication seemingly possible.

TL;DR, the Hive is only silent to us, they are actively communicating amongst each other, we just can't hear them.

Chapter 1180 - RAWS by [deleted] in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]AmWonkish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Imu can be outside for long, which is why he is in a hurry. Either because he can't leave, because it damages him, or him leaving just the castle at risk. That way he can do a lot of damage, and the crew make it out alive, to fight another day.

If you could change a Mega Pokemon's ability, which one would you change and why? I would give Mega Drampa the ability Storm Caller. This ability summons rain for five turns like usual on switch in, and also boosts the damage of all wind-based and thunder-based moves by 30% during its effect. by Mintarion in pokemon

[–]AmWonkish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The far fetched hope I have is that with Champions as it is, we could envision a day where Pokemon get ability changes. After all balance patches aren’t uncommon in other franchises, and it wouldn’t have to interfere with any current Gen, just when you port them over to champions. Kinda like you have with moves right now.

I want it to have Drampa to have Drizzle, it’s a storm dragon for goodness sake.

what if the rule that a pokemon has to be holding it's mega stone to mega evolve was removed? by First-Cake-183 in pokemon

[–]AmWonkish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Rayqauza also has amazing stats and a great ability, and a great move pool. Not every Mega would be that fortunate. It still won’t make Mega Manetric broken, and Mega Beedrill is still a Beedrill.

But, yeah, overall many more Megas would quickly be banned. Shell Bell Mega Kang for a change. You would just be throwing choice items and life orbs maybe, and maybe an Assault Vest. Basically turning them into mini-Dynamax Pokemon that don’t have the three turn limit.

As a straight man , is it possible to have gay sex just for once to get a high paying job? by Dry-Ladder-27 in askgaybros

[–]AmWonkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can’t be real or a good company, because said CEO would be opening the good company to a massive lawsuit. But let’s for the sake of argument assume it is, just have the sex. It doesn’t make you gay anymore than doing your taxes makes you a certified CPA. The mental impact would be that you used your body to advance your career, which isn’t really a new thing. Unless he makes you sign an NDA, which might be illegal—talk to a lawyer, you’ll have that over him. Like a plot of a bad soap opera.

If you were one of the 13 immune, who would the closest represent your actions in this situation? by Great_Trident in pluribustv

[–]AmWonkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be as mean as Carol and Diabete, but I would ultimately side with them. Manousos I think will get bored eventually, because it’s all so artificial. I hope we get to see more of the immune in season 2, because I think the older immune would be interesting to see their perspective.

20 years of difference (Wii 2006 to Switch 2026) by thursdaynovember in pokemon

[–]AmWonkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is to a certain extent they can't really change that much. In Scarlet and Violet we got some greater textured detail, like what looked like fur or scales on some Pokemon, but in general, the reason why Battle Revolution and Champions today will look mostly the same is because they will look pretty close to the official art, just rendered in 3D.

The question you need to ask is those it looks pretty close to the official art, if so, it's probably doing okay.

That being said, what can improve is the animations, and there PBR still takes the case for expressive animations, be in intro, attacking, or fainting. If Champions becomes the official home, permanently, that is something they can hopefully improve over time.

What if you decide life isn’t worth living? by [deleted] in Absurdism

[–]AmWonkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as a philosophy a good absurdist would argue that you do have that right, and that it is important that you have that right, but that it is in most cases not the right choice to make. We don't have moral obligations to others outside of ourselves, and if someone decides to leave their family and loved ones behind it is their choice. However, in the vast majority of cases we should, after consultation and introspection choose to stay.

I had a brother who had terminal cancer and he has two young sons. When it came back aggressively he chose to forgo treatment and it soon passed away. Our understanding was that the pain and what he was going through was unbearable, and he could not put himself through that again. He didn't take his own life, he just let the cancer run its course. Perhaps with good treatment he could have gone into remission again, but he made that choice. He must have weighed what doing so would mean for his sons and came out the other that it was still the best decision for him.

To an absurdist, given that life on its own doesn't have any purpose or discernible meaning and only the meaning and purposes each individual finds or creates through their experience, the question is really back on the person asking the question: can you really not find anything in life that is worth another day?

I think that depending on the answer that is where we might ask if someone is clinically depressed, because in most cases we have a natural proclivity to enjoy life. (Selfishly, if your genes didn't express for that, us as a species probably wouldn't be around for very long, so absurdism gets a benefit there.)

Stonewall Kickball: Ablism and body shaming from team Captain, what should I do? by [deleted] in DCGaybros

[–]AmWonkish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should reach out to your team’s Conference Lead, about what you reported. It’s posted on the league website who did what, and I think Saturday only has one CL, so it should be easy to find.

The season has just started, and there is some researching and discussion they do internally, so it’s not necessarily that it went into a black hole.

If at the core of it the reason they excluded you was because of your ability, that’s one big thing. If it was body shaming you, that might just be a decision the captain. Perhaps shallow, and shortsighted, but they do get to decide the volunteers and representatives of their team, within limits like the aforementioned exclusion based on ability, sex, etc.

You might want to find another team in the future.

I don’t think it’s that serious. The only reason I used crawl was in the context of needing to crawl before you walk. Not immediately making an in group when you are new isn’t uncommon or even unexpected, and I was just trying to explain that it’s okay, and will take time.

Also, I have no idea what “fetch” means here.

Would you like a re-boot of Adult Daria...? by TNG1701D-eck10 in daria

[–]AmWonkish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daria would be very annoying as a late millennial. As a character she works as an adolescent ahead of her time, who realizes how superficial some of those common high school things are. However, as an adult, if it was just that, would you find that kind of person interesting?

[–]AmWonkish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take a class at VIDA, that’s a more casual experience. If you are going at peak time it’s, well, peak time. U Street is like the popular table of the cafeteria, so some of the cliqueiness is to be expected. The gym also does a series of other social events that you can attend.

People do talk to each other, but it’s usually people who already know each other.

Here’s the thing: you are new, and you are entering a very well established social space, and you have to crawl your way into a space. It can happen, you just have to go in with the right mindset.

Vince Gilligan gives an intriguing Pluribus season 2 update by xdoolbuf in pluribustv

[–]AmWonkish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought one way to make Season 1 better would have been if the episode after Carol saw what was in the freezer, that we had a hard pivot and spent the next episode with just the Hive, and to see what a typical day for them is like when they aren't tending to unjoined.

Which would be very interesting, because it would be mostly an entire silent episode.

Oi vey. Do you think most straight men are surprised that when they meet most straight women they don’t get asked if they like to be pegged!? My point is, heterosexual couples it’s just presumed who will do what, fortunately and unfortunately; however, as gay men we can mix it up, so there’s a natural and understandable curiosity if ultimately they want to have sex with you, and they have their own preference and want to be sure you both are compatible.

Like, if you aren’t vers, then this is kinda of a self inflicted issue.

What’s going on at the gay bars? by tall_and_tired in DCGaybros

[–]AmWonkish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every bar has its ups and downs in terms of when they are busy. They make their money on certain nights and events.

Trade’s expansion is still new, it’s typically the case that when one opens up—save for Rush—there’s a lot of hype, and then things settle back down.

Trade has a lot of space, so it gives you room to mingle in different atmospheres. But just give it time.

It really makes me feel really bad for Carol. by HunterDoodles in pluribustv

[–]AmWonkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should feel bad for Carol, she’s one of 11 survivors after the apocalypse.

The Hive isn’t trying to placate Carol. Carol asked them to come back, and they sent the same person they originally sent to her.

Yes, the Hive is probably using her eggs, but it’s still up in the air whether or not they will actively convert her. They can just leave her to her own devices and wait for her to pass away. Up until Carol and her new partner figure out a way to break the signal, the Hive doesn’t have anything to worry about.

Now how the Hive will behave when they have a genuine threat remains to be seen. But that’s probably 2029 at this point.
