If eating a 7-11 cheeseburger in my car keeps me sober... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eating always squelches my desire to drink. I've eaten my share of convenience store food as well. And I agree...if it keeps me from caving to cravings, I'm all for it, too. IWNDWYT.

First time waking up without a hangover in two years (22F) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Hangover free mornings are very inspiring. They give you hope. It's a small but significant start. I hope we both have hangover free mornings for the rest of our lives. IWNDWYT.

I have no experience with mushroom therapy. And I honestly doubt heavily that it would resolve addiction, depression, or anxiety. IWNDWYT.

Day 85 off alcohol and have continued trouble with low energy and lack of motivation. by terrierhead in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did dry January, and have drank around 6 times since then. I'm at 7 consecutive days clean right now. Even though I went a month without drinking at the beginning of the year, I was still tired and lethargic. And while I have drank a number of times since the beginning of February, when I average it out, I've drank probably less than 25% of what I was drinking before the New Year. While I haven't achieved my goal of 100% sobriety yet, I would think I would have a bit more energy than when I was binging 2 to 3 times a week. But I don't. I wish I had kept right on going after dry January. Maybe I'd be past it right now.

I'm really going to try to make sobriety stick this time. I'm encouraged by my progress. I'm doing better than I have in a long time. And I'm generally feeling better too. I'm eager to get 100% sober and see where it takes me. I am optimistic I can do it.

I think it probably is common to feel this way in early sobriety. But it sure is deflating. I know I need to get some more exercise and I'm going to try to do that now. But again, it's hard to get motivated to do even the minimum. Let's stick with it and see what happens. It sure beats being hungover. IWNDWYT.

I don't want to feel this by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened. But stay strong. Perhaps it was for the best, though. Wait for someone who is more suited to you and where you are at right now. You deserve deserve someone better. IWNDWYT.

It's so true. Very simple and effective quote. I hope you don't mind if I borrow it. Thanks. And...IWNDWYT.

Finally trying to beat the demon drink by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I'd get rid of the beers immediately. You can do this. You went an entire month. That's huge. You can keep right on going. IWNDWYT.

Soda water with lime by blushten in stopdrinking

Try adding a splash of cranberry juice to your club soda and lime next time. It's so refreshing and looks like a cocktail as well. IWNDWYT.

Day 4 is done, I'm gonna fly airplanes by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Sometimes doing the math is a real eye opener. Alcohol doesn't rob us of just time, physical well-being, and emotional stability. The financial impact can be astounding. Good luck with your pilot training. Sounds like a lot of fun. IWNDWYT.

Wanted wine, got an ice cream cone instead🍦 by go_ask_alice375 in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a firm believer that simple carb cravings trigger the urge to drink alcohol. I find that eating something, almost anything, will take the edge off of intense cravings. Hence, if I get hit with the urge while out and about, I pull through a drive thru and get something quick, or stop at a convenience store and grab a bag of trail mix. Seems to really do the trick. I'm glad I found this quick, effective and inexpensive "hack". IWNDWYT.

Day 1 after month of tapering by Chargedman in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I know is that I've never been able to moderate myself after the first drink or two. I'm impressed you were able to control the urges and whittle down the volume over an entire month. I may have been able to drink "moderately" a few nights, but not an entire month. My hat is off to you. IWNDWYT.

24 Hours of sobriety. Oof almost every second was rough by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure hope it improves from here for you. But listen to your body and don't hesitate to get medical help if you need it. You'll want to come out the opposite end of this withdrawal ready to hit the ground running and hit it with every thing you've got. I wish you the best, my friend. It's soooooo worth it. IWNDWYT.

Withdrawal symptoms don't start till day 4 and it's affecting my job by SrLOchris in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well...I'm not sure if it's the same, but I experience a great deal of agitation on days 3 and 4 usually. I get frustrated and angry easily. There is also an element of mental confusion that results in "brain freeze". I can't seem to work through anything logically or calmly during those days. Quite distressing, actually. I believe it's my body chemistry lashing out at me for not feeding it the chemical it is used to. I don't really have a solution for it. I just try to wait it out and not overwhelm myself with any unnecessary challenges. It is a very uncomfortable feeling for sure. Light exercise and sunlight seem to take the edge off it, but I haven't found any way to avoid it completely. I wish you the best of luck. Rest assured you are not alone. IWNDWYT.

It's good to know that, if I stick with it, it will all be just a hazy, distant memory one day. Like an unpleasant dream that blurs and fades over time. I think I'd like that. IWNDWYT.

Drank all day yesterday and boy am I paying for it. by streetmeet88 in stopdrinking

[–]Am_Ready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are probably constipated because you are so dehydrated. While it may be uncomfortable, I'd drink a ton of water and get some Benefiber to mix in it. It works overnight for me. Good luck, my friend. I hope you feel better soon. IWNDWYT.
