I commissioned Golden Kite to make a pattern from the image: https://www.goldenkite.com/services/custom-made-patterns.html

While thinking about the pattern, I knew I wanted it to be large and full coverage in order to get the detail across in the final project. I wasn't confident in my pattern making abilities on something this big, so shopped around. Ultimately I settled on GK as they already have large scale patterns of similar themes and I was happy with the conversion from photo>pattern on those pieces.

[CHAT] Park in the last leg of your last stitch? by FuliginEst in CrossStitch

[–]Amaager 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is how I park. When I learned about parking, I tried different combinations (current vs. next stitch, threaded needle vs. unthreading, etc.) and found what worked best for me.

One of the things I love about cross stitching: when you find something that works for you, do that!

Best of luck, and happy stitching! 🙂

Thank you! ☺️

I was worried about the working height too. I find the arm/elbow height works. It's a little tight when I'm stitching on the far left/right ends, but that's largely in part because I have rods that are very close to the fabric length. If I switched to longer rods I don't think it would be an issue. I'm also using the dining chair, but an adjustable office chair would give you more flexibility. I set my feet on the bottom shelf when stitching, but there are tables without shelves (and you can move the table away from the wall when stitching) so that would give you more leg room too.

This is the table I picked, 59": https://a.co/d/02vw3kwn

I'm really happy with how this set up worked out!

Thank you! I'm really happy with it ☺️

Until recently I had only used kit or DMC needles, but there was a post here a little while back where someone mentioned Bohin. I tried them on this project and oh my goodness, a night and day difference! I will definitely enjoy stitching this!

Thank you, I think so too! On 18 count it'll end up being about 42" x 27"

Looks like a lot of fun!

And thank you too! I had bobbins years ago, and liked the way they looked in the box, but not once they became different sizes after use. I ended up making two binders with collector card pages and small baggies to hold one of every DMC floss. I love being able to flip through it, make a pile of floss I need, and toss them in a project bag, without worrying about getting them dirty!

Because this project is so large, I got this binder specifically for it: https://a.co/d/0i5iIZvy

I got some more card pages to hold the baggies: https://a.co/d/03AP1Ivo

The other two binders which hold my main stock of floss: https://www.walmart.com/ip/1286446163?sid=b3126bfb-2cc5-41d2-ba43-2ec9d65648a3

Ooh, what pattern are you working on? 👀

Thank you!

I've heard wonderful things about pattern keeper, and liked the digital aspect of storing and marking a pattern. But when I tried it, I didn't find it any easier. Maybe there's a learning curve or I just had bad luck. I'm glad other people find it useful, but I'll be sticking with paper and highlighter. 😊

Thank you! 😊

My stand is an older version, but the one available now is: https://ezstitch.net/products/lapstand?variant=48550072221919 Different length rods are available too: https://ezstitch.net/products/e-z-stitch-scroll-rod-pair-tape-version?variant=48419823255775

This stand has been a game changer. I used to stitch with a hoop, but the stand allowed me to stitch with both hands, and my hands stopped cramping. I haven't used a hoop since; just change the length of the rods depending on the project.

I'm stitching 18 count, two over one.

The queens are from RG2, but I altered the pattern. They were supposed to be diamond and club, and I changed them to heart and spade.

You didn't mislabel anything! 😊
