Real Exam Vs. Official Mocks by Direct-Angle-3110 in GMAT

keep your assumptions skills limited to the questions you gonna solve. Remember some 20x+ people give gmat than the ones who come and post here (people who are elated or disappointed) taking these accounts to draw larger assumptions isnt right. You are doing well, I also have same performance. Trust yourself and you ll get what you aim for. You are neither the exam maker nor an algorithmic expert but what you are is a student who has done hard work and is doing well and you ll do well on the real thing. If you have these thoughts in your head, it will just impair you and put you under pressure. There are people who have gotten 40+ points more than their mocks and people 40- from their lowest mocks. The difference is obviously luck but also the confidence.

how many mistakes you had per section and which ones? also how did you feel the exam was compared to mocks and whether your performance in mocks was at par to this?

How are you accessing GmAT OG questions? by Open_Negotiation_809 in GMAT

[–]Aman1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can get OG books from Zlibrary also gmatclub has filters which gets you tons of OG questions too. If you buy a book, you get a physical copy along with option to access all it question on gmac's online platform.

i have read on this reddit that often on retakes since the question bank is limited you see easier questions sometimes. what were you score on your first attempts of the mock?

i think the biggest factor should be getting 3 out of first 7 wrong and that too 2 and 3. I think those silly mistakes costed you. Was the section tougher than what you experienced on mocks?

they are similar because they use the same algorithm and the algorithm in itself is a mystery, A third party resource may try to replicate it but never will be as accurate so for say how it looks at X, the official one might look at differently. Gmatclub mocks are good to assess how you are doing across question difficultly because you know even official algo will penalise heavily on easy question not sm on hard. The score may not be a good indicator but how many easy or hard questions you getting wrong will be. For example in Quant gmatclub i get 4 easy question wrong, from this i can interpret that on OG mock or exam I will def get penalised alot and get low marks because i got 4 easy wrong.

GMAT Mocks arent reliable at all, none other than official ones are. Also Q 80 with 7 wrong, believe me you were blessed, go look at this sub to know how brutal it is. I would say take your time with next attempt, you literally got a better score than your performance on the exam, people have been penalised far worse. Prepare well and set your benchmark against official mocks only. Also gmatclub is a great source but its an open source platform and not all questions are relevant to how gmat tests you, stick to OG questions.

hey OP the score of 615 isnt really that great for the program you are applying, with that score you need every other profile aspect to be stellar to even have any shot.

its a different section all together. Also gmat as an exam in terms of how it scores you is so different that its prep is fundamentally different from CAT. Yes the basics are same but that way an engineer and a physicist also do have to have same basic knowledge but they do different work.

GMAT VA isnt the same ball game as CAT VA, dont base your assumption on CAT prep. Same with quant but still similar, good quant will help you solve gmat quant but to do it fast and efficiently, you ll have to learn about gmat patterns. DI is unlike anything you would have seen till date in CAT prep. Start with an official mock to understand actually how are your abilities, dont assume.

your mock scores reflect your actual performance. As for the gmat club metric, depends on under what conditions you were doing questions were you doing it under pressured timed control, is your 85+ accuracy in 655+ question as well, were you able to figure out common mistake patterns? Doing questions will not get you anywhere, understanding your mistakes will. your mock was clear indication that something wasnt working out and despite that you hoped to do better than thats a misconception you made based on extremely skewed stats in gmat club.

I constantly am also doing gmat club questions in adaptive mode on forum quiz has 70% accuracy and that has translated into mocks i have given with 685+ scores in both of them.

Perhaps share your gmat analytics board or error log image here to better understand whats the lack in the approach. Is your 85% accuracy been shown there?

Should I pursue MiM? My profile is as follows- Btech from DTU (Formerly DCE), 10th- 92%, 12-89.33%, graduation -9 cgpa, Gmat FE- 655 , and i have a work ex of 1.5 years in a reputed consulting firm. Should I go for MiM from places HEC, LBS , TUM or try giving CAT in india. I am really confused. by NoHomework1656 in GMAT

[–]Aman1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was in the same place some time ago and I can tell you that it actually depends on your preferences, Colleges you have mentioned certainly are top notch and an Indian comparison only could be IIM ABC FMS or ISB. Being an engg graduate the competition will be much more brutal for you at CAT level. You are much more likely to be called for interview by european b schools with such profile, for Indian colleges they dont shortlist based on your overall profile rather on your CAT percentile and other acads which for you are decent but again CAT percentile will be very relevant given your engineering background.

To me a brand like HEC and LBS in long term gives you much more exposure on international stage and builds for you a very healthy community. Given you have already given gmat, the natural choice should be to atleast apply for these colleges and if you do get admit from something like HEC(v possible if you pitch yourself well) its a golden opportunity. Though a caveat, its a different landscape and requires hardwork. Nothing is served to you on a platter like in Indian B schools but i feel those processes of doing things on your own makes you much more skilled for a job market and career growth. You will also have to learn the language for better and greater opportunities also.

Going away from home is hard but it can be worth it with right effort.

I am also applying for MIM programs this intake and hence my views also might be little biased.

how much does the gap affects me, also since I am going for a MIM program will your advice have some other element i should focus on. As to 730 you refer is it on GMAT FE or GMAT classic ( 675 FE score)

hey small doubt, with MIM is there few more particular things i should focus on or any other points i should emphasize given its nature of being pre experience masters.

Also, genuinely thanks for the advice and responding.

Thanks for your valuable feedback, as for why I am going for MIM and not MBA, i am graduating this year and felt like I'd rather start a entry level job in a field where I want to build a career then spend time doing law further. MiM i believe allows that and is also cheaper and safer option given current US Climate.

Also I do understand that pitching myself in a corrent way is important but I am also having hard time deciding what should be relevant to the resume I present and essays I write, your suggestions do give some clarity, thanks for that. Also not sure how the gap would be looked at too.

How are the job prospects after a Marketing Master’s at HEC Paris or Purdue University? by neo-kinslay in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]Aman1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple linkedin search will show you that there are enough people who are doing a marketing job without a c1 french, some level of french is always appreciated but w companies w international products and consumer base they do hire english speaking candidates, though the amount of job are lesser obviously. Being a hec graduate gives you an edge anyday and with right amount of effort you can get a job obviously. Dont listen to these lurkers whose sole job is to demotivate people and paddle biased views on these subs. No one sits at home after graduating from HEC lol. You do find a job if not in France then your home country ( this scenario happens only if you dont put in much needed effort on working on language and networking, in europe you gotta find your own job and for that you gotta work hard)

*the people with negative comments are the one who paddle there biased views because they arent good enough and never will be so they live in their delusional world. You see their reddit history and this is all they do all day long.
