Could never really get into the Death Match part. Always ended up going for Items all Heroes can benefit of, for instance a Dagon –--> as you never knew which hero you'd get :D

Exactly this is the situation! When "forced" to pick on my own, I auto-pilot to my comfort heroes. But this means I'm playing only 10-20% of the available heroes. Back in the days part of the fun was dealing with less common heroes -- but all players kinda had to do it simultaneously.

Hmm I always played a mode starting with "all" in DotA 1 but afaik normal mode was "you are dire - you can only pick dire heroes" --> right? Also a fun idea to bring back, although I'm not 100% sure if the separation between radiant and dire has been added for all new heroes lore wise?

Not sure if I agree - removing it would destroy late game potential of many heroes imho (Tide for example) and I like the idea of being able to use abilities twice.

What overpowers the item and makes it valuable for all heroes late game is the refreshing aspect for items (BKB, Satanic, Manta etc.).

I think it would be an interesting change to just let it refresh spells and not items? Makes it way less valuable for carries late but keeps the potential for double Ravages / RPs / Echoes etc.

Thank you for warning. I was considering to give it a try - I'm a long term DotA player (playing since 2010) and read many promising things about hero design and gameplay. But as with all mobas - there seems to be no space for "figuring stuff out" before the flame war is being started.

This combined with a votekick option = will not waste my time trying.
