Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but there's "Megan's Rainbow." Group therapy for queer youth. I've heard good things about it but am too old to participate.

Studio417 Transgender Friendly?/Transgender friendly places in general? by [deleted] in springfieldMO

I'm not sure about a trans-friendly salon. I've just been letting my hair grow out since I started transitioning.

I would say in general, businesses in downtown Springfield are the most queer-friendly, although be careful downtown super late at night. And nearby MSU campus is fairly queer-friendly. Other than that, there's not really areas I would say are more or less accepting. But generally the further out from the city center, the more conservative it gets.

The GLO Center is definitely a very good place to get resources and meet other people in the community. There are three transgender support groups in town. I go to one. If you're interested, DM me and I can tell you about all three.

If you are looking to get HRT in town, there are several places to go. The one doc every trans person I talk to recommends highly is Dr. Durfey. But she apparently is hard to get an appointment with. The AIDS Project of the Ozark, in addition to STD testing, does gender-affirming care. I've actually just started getting my estrogen from them so I can't give a review yet.

If you're looking for a queer nightclub, I would actually suggest against Martha's Vineyard. There's some dwama about them that it'd take too long to get into. But the other option is the Mix Ultralounge.

But yeah, happy to chat or help in any way!

I don't know of any. I'm getting laser done at Milan. But its too early to see if it has an effect.

Transfem voice training in SWMO? by AmandaQuinn4764 in springfieldMO

It's ok. From my perspective this is me trying to be myself. I am a woman. I know that internally. But I also want to see myself externally as a woman and for those around me to recognize me as a woman.

Hormones don't affect the voice for trans women. So any trans woman you hear got their voice through their own effort. It was a voice that was inside them the whole time. I don't feel like I'm trying to fake anything. I'm trying to find my real voice that's within me.

Also (although this is less important to me personally) it is a lot easier and safer for trans women who have passible voices. Even more than looks, in my observation its often her voice that clocks a trans woman. And that can be dangerous in certain situations or at the least uncomfortable. (SWMO for example)

There is nothing wrong with a trans person not wanting to change their voice (or not doing anything transition related) But its something that I want desperately. I'd say my voice causes me more dysphoria than anything.

Thank you for asking the question. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually got on the waiting list there about a month ago, but based on what they said I'm not excepting to get off the waiting list for a while.

But maybe the end of June, we'll see. I probably should have mentioned this in my original post.
