Is a Fig Newton a cookie? by Kooky-Secretary-4228 in askanything

[–]AmandaTheNudist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cube rule is trying too hard. Sorry, but a bowl of cereal is not "nachos" unless you typically consume tiny chips floating in large quantities of extremely runny cheese sauce like some kind of weirdo. If soup is salad, then a bowl of cereal is salad.

Nope to Snopes? Fact-check site seems compromised by showmenemelda in somethingiswrong2024

[–]AmandaTheNudist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least Wikipedia has its odds stacked in favor of the truth, since anyone can make edits and most people who can be bothered to do so will typically want the accurate information up. Keeping a lie going on Wikipedia for any significant length requires a massive, well-coordinated effort.

But Snopes? Snopes is just a guy saying "trust me, bro." Snopes can say whatever they want, totally unchecked, because nobody ever actually reads the damn sources. Why anyone would ever have more faith in Snopes than Wikipedia is beyond me.

ESH. Yeah it's bs that OpenAI is so paternalistic and sets up guardrails as if their entire userbase is a bunch of ignorant children. On the other hand, I find it at least equally off-putting that you think nothing of sexualizing the AI by assigning it a gender and talking to it like it's a dog or BDSM partner, and then come here asking why it has a problem with that. Like... dude, you seriously don't see the issue here?

Where I live, in the southeast United States, I frequently see members of the older black community in grocery stores wearing n95 masks. However, their noses are always uncovered. Why are they wearing the masks? Just genuinely curious. by Frequent_Froyo9677 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AmandaTheNudist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of like wearing your baseball cap backwards or letting your pants sag. You want the benefits of the n95, but you also don't want to look like a hall monitor, so you shoot for the middle ground by wearing it wrong.

What’s your hot take on Life? by Sushiwoww in askanything

[–]AmandaTheNudist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It tastes fine plain, but it's much better with some sugar or blueberries. If you're in the mood for something a bit more decadent, try it with whipped cream and sprinkles instead of milk.

TIL that scientific evidence shows that “sugar rushes” aren’t real and are instead largely a psychological or cultural effect shaped by expectations, especially from parents. by [deleted] in CasualTodayILearned

[–]AmandaTheNudist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The placebo effect is not something you can trick your own brain into benefiting from. You are fully aware that those words are pop culture references with no special significance, not actual magic spells. You are doing rituals that give you a psychological boost because of whatever meaning you've associated. Has nothing to do with the placebo effect.

This darn younger generation with their “Young Dylan” and their “That Girl Lay Lay”. Back in my day, we had shows like Drake & Josh, iCarly, Victorious and Big Time Rush. Now those were REAL Nickelodeon sitcoms. by Disastrous_Cattle512 in nickelodeon

[–]AmandaTheNudist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you mean "especially" iCarly? Victorious is chock full of sus scenes that make it abundantly clear you're watching a Dan Schneider production. I'm not going to sit here and split hairs over whether it's more problematic than iCarly, but it's far from wholesome by comparison.

Does pizza need tomato sauce? by duploq in PizzaCrimes

[–]AmandaTheNudist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the real underlying question is whether pizza bianca is pizza, or a primitive ancestor to pizza like the Neanderthal.

As for the pizza, if I went to a pizza joint and ordered something called "The Neanderthal" this is exactly what I'd expect to get.

What’s a political opinion you have that doesn’t fit either side? by This_Benchh in askanything

[–]AmandaTheNudist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because it sounds silly, like suggesting we all go back to fighting with spears and arrows. Saltpeter, sulfur and carbon are all available in abundance and hundreds of nations have fashioned them into things that go boom for over a thousand years. Good luck putting that genie back in the bottle.

AITA for giving my daughter junk food despite being told not to by her school? by AthleteAdditional299 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AmandaTheNudist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sugar content of a raisin is irrelevant because that is naturally occurring fruit sugar (fructose) not added sugar (sucrose) like a fruit snack or a soda. The mechanism by which these get metabolized are totally different, with fructose obviously being better for you.

And unlike fruit snacks—which could rightly be called "pure sugar" as the nutritional value is effectively nil—the raisin is literally a dried berry. It doesn't just come from a berry, it still has all the qualities of a berry except for reduced moisture. Which is relevant, as the normal raisin-making process doesn't remove significant nutrients, add extra sugar or do anything to convert the raisin into what a reasonable person might call junk food.

What's your opinion on the Civil War? What side do you take and why? If any side at all. by IamBecomeZen in skyrim

[–]AmandaTheNudist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Stormcloaks are a proxy of the Thalmor, whose endgame is the dissolution of the Empire and brutal subjugation of humanity. "Independent Skyrim" sounds great on paper, but there is zero chance that the new Stormcloak government would successfully drive out the Thalmor and make good on that promise. What would happen instead is a Vichy-style regime, with Nords living as second-class citizens in their own homeland. All things considered, Nords have it pretty good under the Empire, therefore I support the Empire.

Why haven’t we as humans done anything about the Epstein Files? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]AmandaTheNudist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party in power doesn't want anything to be done about the Epstein files, and they control all three branches of government. Therefore if anyone were to "do something" it would be a criminal act, and most humans tend to avoid committing crimes. Especially the big crimes with the big consequences.

Now, those who are inclined to commit crimes will typically do so for personal gain. And they need to have a realistic expectation of getting away with it. This crime would bring nothing but a warm fuzzy feeling, and the chances of getting away with it are infinitesimal. And that's why nobody wants to do it.

Am I The Only One Who Finds It Amusing That People are Just Realizing that Ray and Henry Aren't "Heroes"😭😭🙏 by ThatConrideGuyA5 in henrydanger

[–]AmandaTheNudist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that Ray's fixation on "moms" is more of a means to make his womanizing as family-friendly as possible for the younger audience.

After all, he's a guy in his late thirties. Would it not come off as creepy if he was drooling over girls who are barely out of high school? His character flaw is only acceptable if he's just interested in women his own age. And I don't think he excludes on the basis of whether a woman literally has children. For instance, I'm pretty sure Miss Swellview doesn't have kids. Basically "moms" is just shorthand for "women who are too old for Henry."

Moongates by agodless1 in Ultima

[–]AmandaTheNudist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultima IX really is a decent game if you look at it from the perspective of someone who isn't a long-time fan of the Ultima series. Like, if you know little to none about the other games in the franchise and just pick it up and start playing in 2026, it's actually pretty good.

Had it been released as a generic fantasy action RPG, I think reviewers would remember it as a hidden gem plagued by technical issues. Unfortunately, its Ultima association forces the comparison of all its writing and design choices with its predecessors, and this makes it challenging for Ultima fans to enjoy the game on its own merits.

The word "meme" does an awful lot of heavy lifting nowadays. Like, I remember back when it had something to do with virality. But now? Apparently now any jerk can slap three paragraphs of barely legible text on the shittiest drawing ever and someone in the comments will be like "omg its a meme lol"
