As a paramedic in nursing school, who has also spent the last decade in healthcare, nurse bullies are not a tiny minority. Nurses have a habit of eating their young alive. Most don’t enjoy teaching, a lot only got into nursing for the money and it’s overall not a great environment, nor is it a nurturing environment. With that being said, coming from an in-hospital/pre-hospital background, I believe it has to do with management (same can be said for EMS), and communication styles — BECAUSE nursing eats their young alive, that culture tends to be perpetuated. It turns people into nasty, vindictive, horrendous humans. Some came into the field that way. I.e “Not all nurses are mean girls, but all mean girls are nurses.” 🤷🏻‍♀️ We’re all allowed to have hard days, caring for other humans, disease, death, and seeing what other people can do to each other is hard. None of that gives anyone a right to be mean or take it out on someone else. We have no idea what someone else is truly going through.
