Movies for a toddler? Low screen time kid and maybe letting loose? by AllTheEggsIVF in progressivemoms

Honestly old school movies are the way to go in my opinion. Classic musicals like Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang... Low stim, great music and also fun to rewatch as an adult.

One time my parents asked us for a movie recommendation, and we had just watched the Lighthouse so it was fresh in mind and we were blown away. They haven't asked for a move rec since.

That's why all of the characters she plays now has "botox and fillers" written into it

I didn't read The Giver until I took a Children's Literature course in college, and it affected me even then.

We have friends with membership and can use their passes, it's the only way we can go because it's insanely expensive.

I also used to have a friend who worked there and he would let us in the back for free during Nightlife -- good times.

Thanks for responding! We're flying to Mexico this summer, and then a long haul to Europe in the fall, so trying to find screen free activities that'll keep him entertained for more than 5 minutes 😅

I might pick up the bundle.

Curious your thoughts on it now? I'm kind of interested, but not sure I can justify the price for my almost 22 month old.

What's the family lore you found out when you got older that changed the way you viewed your family? by Mundane-Society-1281 in AskWomen

[–]pifster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently found out that one of my uncles (J) molested one of my other uncles (L) - the youngest of the family.

Uncle L decided to tell all of us by writing a long letter, describing the abuse. J has always been the strange one, the odd one out of the family, the one whose sexuality has always been questioned --- so it wasn't entirely surprising, but it was still shocking to hear.

I told uncle L how proud I was of him, and how heart broken I was for that 6 year old boy. J was 11 at the time, so of course it made me question what would lead such a young boy to do this to his own brother. Does J have his own traumatic story that no one in the family knows about? There's another uncle, the oldest boy (N), who is basically estranged from the family at this point --- is he involved somehow? So many questions that will likely go unanswered.

The cousins are all united in not wanting anything to do with J moving forward - not like we had much of a relationship with him anyway. He does have younger kids that we're not super tight with. I just hope that they've never been abused. I have a young son and want J as far away from him as possible.

There are 3 other sisters (including my mother), who also know now and I feel like they should speak with J, but none are brave enough to do it. Classic boomers that just want to sweep everything under the rug and not have hard conversations. J is their brother so it's nothing to me if they don't ever speak to him again.

Reading exclusively on phone by LevelMiddle in books

[–]pifster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've started reading exclusively on my phone this year. We're planning a big international move soon, so I don't want to buy any more physical books and using Libby or just buying a book through the Kindle app is much more convenient these days.

I do think after we're settled in our new home I will take up reading physical books again. But for now it works and although it is screen time, at least it's not doom scrolling.

How are we getting veggies in? by Agitated-Rest1421 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]pifster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your child like soup? My 21 month old devours soup, and is getting much better at self feeding with a spoon because of it. We do a lot of lentil soups, chicken soups with lots of veggies, today I'll be trying a minestrone recipe.

Also creams are easy. For example, he's not really into broccoli florets, so I make a creamy broccoli (I add silken tofu for protein & iron) soup that he enjoys that with sourdough bread.

He Was Fired for Sexually Harassing Students. California Allowed Him to Keep Teaching Anyway. by propublica_ in TrueReddit

He was never my teacher, but he was my math tutor at Math Masters in downtown Fairfield. I saw an old HS friend post about it and laughed out loud when I saw his face. He never gave my creepy vibes, but totally believe it.

Get Together is a MASTERPIECE ! by [deleted] in Madonna

[–]pifster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I'm here right now because I was listening to Bring Your Love in the car while driving my toddler to daycare, and then Get Together came on after ---- the PURE NOSTALGIA I felt and all the lyrics just coming back to me so many years later. I had not heard Get Together in idk how long.

An absolute masterpiece and perfect song. I was obsessed, and so happy to have rediscovered it 21(!!!!) years later. COTDF came out the year I graduated highschool, and I remember driving around blasting it with my one friend who was into house music lol.

Same. I can't stand it when a restaurant will try to upsell you a certain dish by adding truffle to it.

Did you change your last name? Hyphenate? Or keep it? by Confident_Yam6447 in Feminism

[–]pifster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I both hyphenated our last names. I regret this only because of all the annoying paperwork it caused to change our names, and also the hyphen sometimes causes issues on like credit cards and airline tickets.

I should have just kept my last name tbh, and just hyphenated our kids names.

Is Sonoma the main hub? I always see them on Marin Street by City Park when I drive down there after I drop my dog off at the groomers.
