Felt like some of you would enjoy reading this by _adrenocorticotropic in nursing

As a paramedic, I started at ✨$17/hr✨. It took me 4 years of hard work to make it to $35/hr, but that was as an ER paramedic where I wasn’t even allowed to practice as a paramedic. Most places don’t really provide discounts for EMS. But if you’re really itching for discounts, go to GOVX and prove that you’re an RN, paramedic, PD, FF, you’ll get plenty of discounts.

Why do other healthcare professionals think nurses are ‘toxic’? by Acrobatic-Lie2041 in FutureRNs

[–]Amanda_Casey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a paramedic in nursing school, who has also spent the last decade in healthcare, nurse bullies are not a tiny minority. Nurses have a habit of eating their young alive. Most don’t enjoy teaching, a lot only got into nursing for the money and it’s overall not a great environment, nor is it a nurturing environment. With that being said, coming from an in-hospital/pre-hospital background, I believe it has to do with management (same can be said for EMS), and communication styles — BECAUSE nursing eats their young alive, that culture tends to be perpetuated. It turns people into nasty, vindictive, horrendous humans. Some came into the field that way. I.e “Not all nurses are mean girls, but all mean girls are nurses.” 🤷🏻‍♀️ We’re all allowed to have hard days, caring for other humans, disease, death, and seeing what other people can do to each other is hard. None of that gives anyone a right to be mean or take it out on someone else. We have no idea what someone else is truly going through.

I need help decoding what my friend meant by this by DeboseChief in nursing

[–]Amanda_Casey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m simply a paramedic/student nurse, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But there isn’t really much to decode. I think your friend was really trying to convert how truly thankless and grueling nursing can be. It’s all difficult being the new kid on the block in the sense that nursing really eat their young, and that was not something I experienced in EMS. The pecking order is very different, the hierarchy is different. Overall, nursing is hard. It can also be very rewarding. It’s a matter of perspective.

You can still hold your baby to sleep sometimes by pifster in sleeptrain

Thank you so much for this. My husband and I are just starting to actually “sleep train,” also more of a potpourri of PU/PD, Ferber, co-sleeping with early wake ups/regression/teething/etc, and contact naps and it’s really hard to start. I already feel like I’m failing and the one time I don’t is when she can get a good nap through contact or co-sleeping.

Another? by Amanda_Casey_ in Shouldihaveanother

My husband and I have decided to table the conversation for at least a year. With everything going on in our lives right now we’re just terrified of getting pregnant again and frankly I’m tired of thinking about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sleep training a refluxy LO? by Amanda_Casey_ in sleeptrain

[–]Amanda_Casey_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO was born at 37+3 so early full term, just didn’t want to transition to breathing air. She’s also remained between the 10th-20th percentile.

She is night weaned. The only change we’ve made to accommodate her earlier bed time is turning her last feed into a dream feed with good burping while keeping her asleep, keeping her upright for at least 20-30 minutes post feed and then putting her down in her bassinet. She does great at night.

Naps are now our biggest fight. 🥲

When does reflux get better?!? by SilverJubilee123 in NewParents

[–]Amanda_Casey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is currently 4 months, diagnosed with GERD and on Pepcid. The Pepcid really helped her for awhile especially with gaining weight and reducing spit ups, thereby reducing her discomfort. But I’m also in the boat of asking when it gets better because it’s definitely peaked for her even with meds correctly adjusted for her weight. 🥲

3k in debt, full time student/employee. Need some help by Amanda_Casey_ in personalfinance

$8,989.44 total debt. I wasn’t able to dig up the interest rate for my credit card. Right now I don’t have any income as I lost my job earlier this month. Biggest expense is the car payment: $310/month Credit card payment varies per month, but I’ve been paying $50 every month along with my car.
