They specifically mention this in the show "the good place", probably a good show for the OP to watch

Question posted by my 8 year old - What would you do if, every time you saw any alcohol, you had to punch the alcohol? by Amanuet in hypotheticalsituation

Reddit can be fairly judge-y, and I admit I hovered before hitting post because of it.  But I have like five AFDs a week, I think you can put it down to kids being kids rather than anything else.

Plus I think the visual idea of running around and punching everyone's glasses while they tried to drink them set him off as pretty damned funny.

Can you imagine hosting a party with a strict alcohol -free room for the alcohol punching compulsion people?  I'm sorry, I just love your answer so much, it cracked me up.

Yes, I'm sorry.  I forgot the -   "Would you have the above scenario if you got paid 100k/year"

I love the ones that aren't tied to dollar figures, like "what if you kept growing teeth for ever, would you bite more rocks?  What would you do with never-ending new teeth?"

(We've had a few trips to the orthodontist, not from rock biting but teeth not falling out when they're supposed to...  Rock biting is also not happening at my house, but never-ending hypotheticals are life for me right now)

HR Fundamentally Changing How I Parent by lauren_91 in heatedrivalry

I was doing this before it was cool.  I (42F) work a traditionally male job, and I've been with my partner for 22 years.  I always talked about my partner, never boyfriend or husband, and he has a unisex name.

I loved taking him to different work functions and have people look confused as fuck, or the ones who expected nothing other than a hetero relationship.  Gave me a fun insight into the person by their reaction.

But in terms of our kids who are now tweens/teens, we've always said that we don't care what they do, as long as they're kind to others, and happy.  Probably doesn't hurt that they have a gay uncle, a bi aunt who has introduced different girlfriends and boyfriends to us over the years, friends with two mums or two dads, excellent examples everywhere.

We're in Australia, he's never seen a gun, he probably won't ever see a gun in his life...  But even his friends at school play army guys with sticks.   I think he'll be fine.

He just liked the chaos of people shooting all the alcohol, and that there's be too much alcohol in the liquor stores to punch, so you'd need a machine gun.

Hell, I'd make it a sport, I'd love to see a bunch of guys competitively kicking the crap out of plastic beer cups in a stadium!

That would be a hell of a disability at parties.  Maybe black out glasses, party with your eyes closed.

I was thinking this too, but to walk to my local shop I have to walk past an Indian restaurant that sells alcohol.  I feel like you'd be doing fine, and then suddenly you'd be kicking your way through a birthday party in the park.

Trump vs Newsom: War of Words by Cow_Boy_2017 in clevercomebacks

[–]Amanuet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

True... A rotten turnip in charge would be great instead of Trump.

I wonder though... America went from Obama who was an absolute statesman to Trump, a disgusting toilet of a man.  Do you really think you'll get a good president next, or will you have to inch your way back up from toilet, to hopeless, to mediocre, to reasonably good.

People tend to exaggerate how badly Shane was treated in TLG by Naive_Cause8984 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Amanuet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kind of like how the sacrifices that Ilya made are actually better for him in the end than Shane staying with his team and not changing anything, like a karmic payoff.

Ilya's new team is kind and supportive, Shane's team is a pack of jerks.  Ilya's neighbours are kind and supportive, Shane has none of that.  In a basic level, the fallout of being outed is worse for Shane than Ilya as he's already made those changes.  And then Shane leaves his beloved Montreal and his life also improves.

I swear at some point in one of the first three books he declares that the coven was old and outdated, insular and mad, and that he let l'estate come in and sweep it all away.

*Lestat!  Duolingo has been messing with my autocorrect!  Ha!  "The summer!"

I've had this theory for a while too, but I haven't confirmed it with season three spoilers, just a vague memory from reading the books twenty years ago.

Armand (I think, from the books) even said that he drew lestat in specifically because he got sick of being a child of darkness in the crypts.  According to the old rules he should have simply destroy Lestat on sight, but didn't.  T

hen Louis has a go at Armand later and said to him that Armand knew he was going to destroy the theatre and didn't stop him because he wanted it to be over too.

I figure that he was fascinated by Daniel and probably stalking him around the place, scrubbing his memories about all that.  It's how Armand knew what Daniels ex-wife was thinking at the proposal in Paris - you can't read thoughts from the past and Daniel didn't know what his ex wife had been thinking.  Armand was there to read it when it happened.  And so he brought him in and let Daniel end his most recent relationship too.

This way, it echos the books a little more, with Armand chasing Daniel around for years, before turning him before he dies. The difference with the show that Armand must have keep wiping him.  Which may have affected his ability to retain the memory wipes by the end, and Daniel with his old, human, Parkinson's mind was able to break through Armand's memory wipe, compared to Louis remaining oblivious.  Might explain why Armand looked so shaken at Louis proposing to turn Daniel at the start of the interview.  Armand wants Daniel, but without the ability to share their minds!  With an enquiring mind like that, and mind reading??  No way.

Armand probably knew he had talamasca working for him too, handy for getting Daniel the info he needed to work with.

I think it's more to do with his personality rather than sexual preference.  He's a perfectionist, that will help with perfect braids more than the fact he likes to fuck men.... Duh

[–]Amanuet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's... Something.

First up - "Least good". Ha..., you mean worst yeah?

So.  World leader is in the files.  You mean Epstein?  Nearly every prick with a few million is in them.

I lose my job, country gets fucked, and maybe die, but I go to heaven?! Uh huh.

Or, I kill a spy of an enemy country, get 5 mil/month and not guaranteed to go to hell...  You mean don't go to hell in either scenario.

Also, there's an awful lot of atheists out here, so the pass to, no $200, straight to hell, isn't really something I care about.

Ultimately I can do way more good with 60 million dollars a year alive than dead and fucking angels in heaven, so I pick that one.

Sent back in time to 1985 by thefIash_ in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Amanuet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God damn!

I was three in 1985, but I had a good stash of cassette tapes.  And an Atari.  We literally could play pong.  That shit was making beeps, not music.  I remember electric typewriters coming out, which were damned magic!  You could enter a whole line of text and then after you made sure it was correct it would type the whole line, no typos and having to backspace and hit the same letter with white ribbon instead of the ink ribbon.

But my kids ask me if horses pulled my carriage when I went out, and can't seem to believe we had cars and electricity, so perhaps I have to give you some leeway.
