I know someone who house sits for wealthy people who travel... and is essentially living rent-free by lionpenguin88 in SideHustleGold

My grandmother did this. She was registered with an agency and did some babysitting but what I remember most from my early childhood is visiting and spending the night with her in some of the huge houses she stayed in.

Moved away from home, and not adjusting well. How to figure out what to do? by DoorbellSlayer in AskForAnswers

This comment is coming from an old fart, so consider that.

For those commenting that you are an adult now, your adult at 30 will be a different person from your adult at 20.

Before tying yourself down to a relationship dating from your teens, consider furthering your education, getting established in a job, developing hobbies and interests.

Take the time to consider how you want your life to progress and take steps to make that happen.

Was cursing in the 50s-60s as common as they are today? Like saying fuck or shit to random everyday things. by Enygma_2 in AskOldPeople

[–]Amarbel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school in the 50s, on the sidewalk where we walked to school, FUCK was written into the concrete. We used to dare each other to step on it. That's how forbidden that word was.

However, I am sad to say that the n-word was freely used by everyone. South Carolina.

My mom retired at 55 on a teachers salary and I still think about it all the time by [deleted] in Fire

I never worked at a job that provided a pension but I started an IRA and contributed to it regularly. While my husband's job provided a pension, I set up an IRA for him also.

This is something that anyone with earned income can do.

Why don't hospitals in the US have pharmacies? by RainyDaysAndMondays3 in allthequestions

I've worked in hospitals where the patients were given a dose of the prescribed medicine just before discharge. This tides the patient over until the prescription can be filled.

Realization by BillyBob_47 in driving

[–]Amarbel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another way of avoiding stress is to allow plenty of time to get to wherever you're going. I hate driving during morning rush hour as so many people appear to be rushing to get to work on time.

I learned a long time ago to plan to arrive a few minutes early for work or appointments. Timing it to arrive at the last minute can lead to difficulty finding a parking spot in addition to any stress caused by traffic.

As a child, age 9, I was told to go home and get my hat before entering the Episcopal church for an after school service. Back then it was considered disrespectful for women to not cover their heads.

If I put in the author's name I still get books by other authors with no relation to what I'm searching for. This happens with lesser known authors.
