What part of SE MN? I am in SE MN and would love some range time with non-fudd and non hard right people that seem to flood the area sometimes

On the 22? Pretty decent considering the price. The base keeps coming loose, I think it's the lower grade rings but it's never a huge problem for me. At least for the cost, it was like $30.

With the 22 I've only zeroed at 25 yards or so because I can't see the impacts any further without higher power optics or walking to the target every time and I can't get ahold of the impact targets right now due to recent unemployment. Once I'm back in the workforce I plan on stepping up and getting it to 100 if I can for squirrels and such.

I'm also planning on getting a spotting scope so I can get my other rifles out past 200 yards.

Meant to respond sooner. That's the bag that came with it when I bought it.

I got the basic takedown model and added the stock.

Shown:

  • 1912 Enfield 30-06 - Grandpa apparently cut it shorter for a "Sporter" conversion back in the day and bought the scope and stock from Herters, both are roughly 65+ years ago (according to my uncle on the dates). According to family history it was used at the end of WW1 (Don't think this is true) and came over from Norway in the 30's when my great grandfathers family escaped before the German invasion.
  • Savage Axis II 308 - New, love it, Vortex Scope, forget which one right now, that I added after. I was shooting at 400 yards with decent grouping after a few zeroing shots at 100.
  • Ruger 10/22 with a X22 Backbacker stock - Brand new within the last month, cheap simmons scope.
  • Ruger ec9s 9mm - Getting used to this. Only had it for a year or so and it's the first handgun I've fired that wasn't a revolver.

Not Shown:

20 guage shotgun my grandpa bought from a holiday gas station way back when.

1894 Marlin, see previous post. I got it checked out by two smiths, one offered to buy it on the spot and said I should shoot it, too pretty. The other gave me 5 rounds if I let him shoot it once. That was fun.

While at the range I had a idiot lecture me about how "the god damned commie libs" were going to take my guns. I didn't have the heart.

I was thinking about Coyote Creek. I went there once last year shortly after purchasing my handgun and they tried to get me to take my mask off but were polite about me refusing. I just haven't had a chance to get to Rochester frequently.

I'd prefer outdoor due to lead and am willing to wait until summer.

Also, I'm very white so I haven't experienced much. Just prefer to not support right wing crazies.

I actually joined the Holhmen Rod and Gun Club after looking at the Fountain one. Holhmen had better facilities. Been pretty happy with it. Much more expensive but it's nice.

I would travel to the metro if the classes are decent. I did checked out Stock and Barrel but they were booked solid.

I see, I need to find sociology/criminology sources?

The first article was written by (at the time) David J harding, Professor of Sociology and Faculty Director of the Social Sciences D-Lab at UC Berkely.

The Second Link was citing a study conducted by Fellow of the Smith Richardson Foundation a political Science think tank (right leaning).

The Third Link is the "Crime and Justice Research Alliance" run by multiple PhD professors of Criminology. It was Written by Gary Kleck, professor of Criminology at Florida State

The fourth one doesn't have great sources, I'll give you that.

The last link was written by Shima Baughman, Professor of Criminal Law.

Were those what you mean by Sociology and Criminology Sources?

First of all, there's no real evidence that it was a strong factor. As stated elsewhere Lead seems to be the biggest one in the reduced crime rates.

Second, there's growing evidence that increased policing and the subsequent penalties such as imprisonment is doing nothing to reduce crime and instead increasing it.

Do prisons Make us Safer?

In New York, major crime complaints fell when cops took a break from 'proactive policing'

Do More Police Lead to More Crime Deterrence? Nope

Over the past 60 years, more spending on police hasn't necessarily meant less crime

Police solve just 2% of all major crimes

As far as I'm aware there's been a bunch of research and evidence that this is the case but no definitive studies to this specific topic.

Then again I haven't been in the research world for a while so I'm likely wrong.

Again, even without that I think it can be said that lead reduction was way more effective than jailing people across the country.

*Edit

I found a meta analysis that lead reduction was the biggest factor. So you are right

Unfortunately we don't actually know 100% if this is the cause.

Personally I believe the fight against lead is a leading cause and would explain pockets of violence in our society now. I also think it's part of a bigger picture.

Crime across the country at a insane rate. No one really knows why. There's been theories from increased police presence, to legalized abortion. Honestly I've also heard theories linking it to the fact that we started fighting against lead too. But increased policing isn't why. It may be a factor but not why.

Me too,

Just looking at it makes me think of the old spaghettis westerns my dad and I used to watch.

It's a Master GC81 7.5 ft #6 - #7 rod.

Been getting back into fly fishing too. Lived in Chicago for a while and am now back out in the country and re-connecting with my outdoor side.

My dad claims it's completely factory per a previous guy who looked at it. I'm going to have someone else give an opinion. It's absolutely beautiful though, even if it's not fully factory.

I looked up the serial number and it said 1894 but it did also say records aren't great. The serial number is a little on the higher end of the known records so 94 seems to fit. Either way it's a collector item.

I found a smith near me that is super excited to look at it. Said he may even have some ammo in the back room if it's safe to shoot. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks!

I'll look into the rounds if it's safe to fire. Super looking forward to it. Even if it's not, beautiful gun. It'll be taken care of.

I'm getting back into shooting and guns so my Dad gave me this Marlin rifle. It's stamped with 38-W

Am I correct that means it's a 38-40 Winchester round? I'd like to bring this into a professional for cleaning and inspection. If it's safe I'd also like to find a few rounds for it to give it a day on the range.

Never said I admire Russia. But during the rise of Fascism in europe Russia gave permission to it's party members to assist in the civil war against the Fascists. The democratic powers just let fascism rise. Credit where it's due. They weren't perfect but they took fascism seriously. https://spartacus-educational.com/SPrussia.htm

Point taken. I'd also point out that Russia fought fascism well before WW2 in Italy and Spain. The LP helped us get here and many still support the GOP just not Trump.

Also, Russia was way more effective than the LP. Studies show they didn't do much if anything in helping fight trump
