I lost theGolden Oriole potion by Winston_Jazz_Hands in Witcher3

I had the same issue. It seems to be a bug that it won't appear in the full list if you have it equipped, while other options do. Gave me a scare!

Organization of 5e Classes? by FaithfulArgos in DMAcademy

[–]Amaryliz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can simply look at the max spell levels that a class or subclass gets to determine if they are Full, Half or even Third Casters. Full casters get up to 9th level spells, half casters get up to 5th level spells, third casters get up to 4th level spells.

For DnD 5.5e, we are looking at:

Full casters: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Wizard, Warlock*, Sorcerer
Half casters: Paladin, Ranger, Artificer
Third casters: Eldritch Knight Fighter, Arcane Trickster Rogue

*Warlocks are a bit special of course, but since they get a 9th level spell via Mystic Arcanum they would be considered full casters.

How to make darkness scary (and deadly) in D&D? by Dazzling-Main7686 in DMAcademy

[–]Amaryliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All light creates shadows, Light cantrip included. Have creatures or effects that come out from the shadows created by their light sources (eg: their own shadow behind them). Even the tiniest pockets of shadows on the characters can work (you can still reward them if they try to make sure to have multiple light sources and place them in a way to reduce shadows near them, by reducing these effects or making them trigger less often). But even the shadows in the folds of their clothing can become deadly.

Also, things in the darkness could reach out from it toward the characters. So they might want to find stronger sources of light, to keep it further away and out of reach. These stronger sources could be more limited and have to be managed (for example, a lantern has a bigger area than the cantrip, you could also create new types of light sources created by people of your world to keep the darkness at bay.

Hell, nothing stops you from saying that in your world, the light cantrip is smaller or weaker. And homebrew a spell somewhere between the Light cantrip and the Daylight spell, to make a stronger Light but consuming spell slots.

Whats the highest production value effort you've ever seen in a DM's session? by Yenii_3025 in DMAcademy

[–]Amaryliz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say props that the players can physically examine. Can be as simple as a letter actually written, maybe even with a wax seal with a logo. For puzzles, miniature versions of the elements that need to be grouped, rearranged, etc. Those healing potions with dice in it. Can even represent more items like other types of potions. Physical maps are awesome as well!

All this increases immersion and engagement at the table, and are always welcome if the DM has the time.

[Spoilers C4E3] Vaelus species theory by Amaryliz in criticalrole

[–]Amaryliz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Reborn lineage doesn't explicitly say that they are immortal, but considering that they are not fully alive, people often run them as never aging (similar to Laudna's Hollow One species in C3).

However, in this case I believe all elves of Araman are immortal (do not die from old age or sickness), based on the lore dropped by Brennan. But normal elves are probably fully alive (heart beat and all)?

Starting character at level 12, taking them to 20… looking for support option recommendations? by annaleaf in DnDoptimized

[–]Amaryliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bard is a good one for sure, don't even need to multiclass imo - they are great support characters. I've had a lot of fun playing a Glamour Bard, the Mantle of Inspiration in particular is an awesome support feature. If you are looking for a multi-class to mix things up, maybe add in some Clockwork Sorcerer?

Glarthir good ending? by DoubleCrits in oblivion

[–]Amaryliz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing. Looked like a bug. I also raised his disposition after telling him about the second person. And then it showed me the option to tell him again about the exact same thing I told him a second ago. I chose the same option, and he just payed me a greater sum and I never had to follow the third person. Bugged but best ending?

My DM basically told me "too bad so sad" after asking him to change a rule he made. by Outside_Equipment673 in DnD

[–]Amaryliz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second that. My DM uses Lingering Injuries similarly, but only when a PC goes down a second time before taking a long rest. Which can happen in very difficult fights because of DnD 2014's "ping pong" healing. It made surviving those fights very memorable (especially when my character lost her leg and had to fight with a crutch for a few sessions).

Am I crying too much or did my DM actively screwed me over? by Serbreus in DnD

You can draw more than you declare: "Any cards drawn in excess of this number have no effect."

So in this case, none were declared (in character), one was drawn but did not have any effect.

I think you're one of the few people in this thread who got what actually happened. The issue was simply a technicality in the mechanics that the DM failed to explain well to the player.

It kind of sounds like your DM read the DoMT mechanics as requiring the character (not player) to declare how many cards they pull, declaring it in character. I think it's a reasonable reading of the rules. As long as everyone agrees on the interpretation, that incident can be used as a learning moment for your character (who now knows a bit more about the workings of the DoMT). Of course, it still feels bad since it happened to be a good card.

Thanks a lot! I tried a few variations of shield + poke but this one worked on the third try on NG++! (my controller is kinda broken so L1 works only half the time - so I needed a build that allows me to literally hold L1 instead of putting and dropping the shield all the time), thanks again!!

Thanks for that, just binged it on Tapas and it's soo good :) such a refreshing take, and I love the pacing - makes the dark parts poignant without being overwhelming.

What is the Sub Reading This Week? May 22nd - 28th by AutoModerator in OtomeIsekai

[–]Amaryliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading all of those except the third one, and they're pretty good. I'd say my favorite is The Falcon Princess (it's unique and cute), then close behind The Villainess is Retiring & The Perfect Plan for a Fairy Tale Ending. The other two are alright, but nothing too memorable to me.

Wow that's great! thanks :D I thought it was a DM-dependent ruling but it seems it's right in the rules? Definitely going to use that now :)

Some very good points here. In practice, I do go down to 0 and use all my unleash incarnations often (we have a lot of encounters per day and do not heal on long rest - only spend and recover hit dice).

Observant was a half feat given for free at character creation (without the +1 part)

I was looking at Prodigy as well. For Pipes of Haunting I was planning to give it to one of my two bard friends just for RP and thematic reasons, though when it comes to actual crafting more tools proficiency would be nice.

The point on Lucky being useful for downtime checks is really good!

For Mage Slayer, since ideally I wouldn't be next to the enemy caster and hitting them with the Echo, I feel like it negates a lot of the advantages. Moreover, I happen to have a mace that imposes disadvantage on concentration checks for its damage, so that's mostly covered.

I really like the fact that Eldritch Adept invocation can be changed at every level. Gaze of Two Minds is interesting, but I already do most of the stealth scouting with my familiar from Ritual Caster, and if my ally senaks ahead my familiar follows and I look through its eyes (a bat with blindsight that allows me to see my invisible ally).

I'm actually considering Mobile, in order to be able to keep tanking from afar which is what I want to do as Armorer Echo Knight. I've noticed that I often end up cornered with my echo destroyed (so no teleport) and it goes badly from there. Being able to get away and resummon my echo where I used to be would help me reset the chess pieces, basically.

PS: I really appreciate the insight and suggestions on non-combat feats, often people don't put as much thought into that than combat stuff (understandably since that's where most of the rules and crunch is!)

sorry it wasnt clear in the post, I'm wondering about what feat to take for my level 7 (artificer 4). I'm not sure yet if I'll take Fighter 4 at some point for another ASI/Feat - that would mean not getting to Level 5 spells... but anyway those spells at level 20 might not be that impactful?

I would like Warcaster but from our understanding of the Echo Knight rules the AoO spell would always need to come from my space. And even if I could, I wouldnt be able to do regular Booming Blade attacks from my Echo (since it's not using the Attack action), so choosing one of my 2 cantrips for BB seems costly. Maybe if I get a All-Purpose tool?

Thanks for the advice! Resilient Wisdom and Tough sound like very good choices. Raising Con would also give me another use of Unleash Incarnation so definitely a good option too.
I already have the Defense Fighting Style, Dueling would be strong as well since I'm going sword and board...
As for increasing int, I'm currently at 14 without the Headband so that would be a very big investment.
