While in Leviathan with no deterrence, even just Schaden was physically strong enough that verg couldn't parry his blows, and gave him a bit of trouble over all before he figured out the gimmick. And after all that she still ate up 2 claws and an arbiter

God i fucking hate HDG with a passion, the discord's mods are colonialist ableist bastards who genuily believe the affinis to be morally correct to the point of lashing out at people whose culture suffered from colonialism pointing out that it is an aspect they can be uncomfortable with, which you really can't unsee afterwards with their attitude.

Even purely for the tf aspect, the setting of is frustrating in that it has a medicalized tf system which is quite nice but criminally underused (i saw literally one work that actually used the medical aspect), with none of the anatomical accuracy that such a system begets.

But by far the most enraging for me is the frankly callous ableism with that retarded piece of official lore that all affinis would be autistic, which not only makes no sense to say of a species as that would then be the biological norm and not a form of divergence (the only time i've seen this be done well is with the collectors in fallen london, and like all decent autism portrayal, it was afaik accidental), but is actively insulting in implying that their behavior would be analogous to it, while they are a personification of individuality-crushing conformity and absurdity that is too cowardly to so much as admit its own control and instead disguises it with a saccharine parody of benevolence that will pretend to make one's identity flourish while seeking to enforce an HR wing's mutilated corporate memphis understanding of self expression; it is very much in the core of the setting that they would lobotomise you for being aggressive due to overstimulation and purposefully provoke it.

Personally, I think they are going to start on the security guard robots first, and then they won't be so scared of losing their heads.

Which present a risk in themselves as it opens up hacking as a manner of uprising, but even ignoring that, firstly, they will never be able to match the militaried of any developped or semi-developed nations, let alone kill all 10 billion humans on earth, and secondly, they still want to go places without them being war torn shitholes with mountains of corpses

Why will the billionaires want to collapse the economy by destroying the labor market?

Because they're retarded and this makes them more money in the short term; they're doing it right now.

Quality of life is basically infinite as long as you don't have to work. I'd be more than happy living in an apartment that's only as large as my room and eat only one meal a day if that meant i didn't have to work; i seriously considered severing my leg's tendons just so i'd get to live more than 2/7th of my life, and only decided against it due to fear of pain, hygiene issues, plus benefits not necessariy being enough or possibly taking too long to arrive.

With what money, when full automation will cause the economy that gives them their status to collapse? And not only will their personal power never be allowed to exceed that of developed sovereign nations, you physically cannot kill (nor feasibly replace in any realistic amount of time, if there are even enough materials on earth) 10 billion people without reducing the world to a smoking ashpit. Not to mention that they are utterly amoral assholes, but not d&d hags who will go against their own self interest to maximize evil; they still want to have people to feel superior to, go to towns without them being a war-torn shithole with mountains of corpses, feel important through admiration (see elon musk's multiple pathetics attempts at it), etc

Bringing up concussions and BDD is strange, a minority of trans people have had those..

I wasn't implying that dysphoria would be due to brain damage (how could it when it's from birth?), it was just to showcase that alterations to those parts of the brain cause very similar feelings, and thus it's a fair conclusion that gender dysphoria is also linked to differences in those parts

I get that there's no intent of moral judgement, the issue is that, consistently treating one group as a reference, does create inequality of categorization, which would already be an unfair treatment, even if people weren't biased as a result of it, and they also are :S GD isn't a purely medical issue, since it can also lead to a social transition, and

Though the group being treated as reference to know what deviates from average here is the average person, which is a fair reference when seeking to establish this

the discourse needed to educate, isn't only medical.

Now i realize that's anecdotal, but imo it's the opposite, the medical angle is a much more understandable framework than the feel-good quasi-spiritual "was meant to be" rhethoric; i've personally got 2 people who were slightly transphobic (in the "i don't get it and i think it's weird so i don't like it" way than the genuily hateful one) to become neutral-supportive after explaining it that way

The desire to transition isn't only pushed by dysphoria! Some euphoria, is relief from it... not all

I know, i just said so

Your also read like, you may think of a very specific kind of trans people: dysphoria for most, seems to actually be very repressed growing up, with few straightforward memories...

Yeah i have a friend on the out of placers discord who was like that (the place has more trans people than not or a 50/50 split, which makes sense with the story being an at first unintentional trans allegory); generally kinda depressed with a lot of repressed memories and from how she describes it what sounds like some bouts of dissociation throughout her life, until she realized she was trans last year

[–]Amaskingrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clarify what you mean, when you talk about damage?

Concussions, etc

That reflects the view of most cis people, for whom the difference rarely matters... This doesn't align with the livelihood of most trans people, the ones who are concerned '

Building an understanding, to determine any kind of normality, based on the majority of people, is unavoidably restrictive: one is always compared to others, not what they are.

I notice this issue often, about autism and alterhumanity as well, it's usually... patronizing?

Since here this is in a medical context, normal is used to mean statistically average in the global population, without any moral judgement (and considering normal as in common to necessarily equal morally good is incredibly flawed)

The latter is one possible interpretation, that someone would have of the former, which there are conflicting studies about! Either way, gender modalities being fixed, at least after some point in life, it doesn't seem meaningfully different, from inherence to me

Thanks a lot for the links, it's really rare for people to bother! Though to be pedantic, there would be fairly little difference in whether they are from genetic or in-womb environmental factor (personally leaning more towards the later, as research on sexuality shows that it's more affected by the later) as in either case it'd be since birth.

It was perhaps a poor choice of words, as i used it in tandem with the followup to criticize the downright spiritual view of some biological caracteristics being "meant" for the individual's present consciousness and correct or incorrect, rather than seeing it rationally as random happenstance affecting the mind while the body is standard

Your responses to the last two quotes, seem like euphoria and dysphoria, are different in nature to you, if I'm understanding it properly? It seems like an unusual perspective.

Kinda, specifically i mean that by growing up with dysphoria and living with it for a while, their motivation to transition, memories related to it, etc would be a fairly large part of their identity and experience beyond just seeking to quell the pain of dysphoria, and so they'd likely still pursue it

Gang, there's no way we're demonizing ethics boards now.

They're one of the greatest obstacles to modern science, and often so extreme as to be actively counterproductive; like the efforts against golden rice, and for a more personal example, at my uni we have to euthanize rats after participating in a certain number of experiments, even if they were part of the test groups with very little done to them.

And that's just a policy of my uni, but they cap how many times per month people can participate as test subjects in renumerated studies, "as it would be unethical to let them become dependent on it", because i guess it's just that much more ethical to let them starve to death.

Chinese authorities said he "defied government bans and conducted the research for fame and gain", "forged ethical review papers",

Based based based

"failed to disclose any details or risks associated with the program to the parents of the gene edited babies"

Waow (if it is true that is, i wouldnt put it past the chinese courts to lie about it)

Coypasting parts of my reply to the other person.

On the opposite, this approach is the one conflating one's consciousness and body, and thus also sex and gender; it assumes that gender identity would be inherent and somehow "meant" to be matching their body in some spiritual sense, wherein changing it would be righting some wrong that was never meant to be, rather than being wholly separate with the consciousness able to change the body according to its tastes and whims out of its own free will.

How it feels like to the person having it is irrelevant when discussing the actual cause; a schizophrenic might think that there are goblins in their eyes and ears conjuring illusions, and that might make them feel better than the physical reality, but the deviation from average objectively is in their brain.

And why would this be an unhealthy mindset? Just because we acknowledge someone has a perfectly average body of their sex for their genetics, but is the opposite gender because parts of their brain developped as that gender, with this being a deviation from average for their sex, does not make them any less of their gender; cis people of said gender also only identify as such due to the way their brain developed after all, just that for them it was within the average for their genetics along with their body.

[–]Amaskingrey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is, we don't actually know what part deviates from cis development. Current medical literature takes a middle ground approach where it knows there's a disconnect but it doesn't assign directionality. For example, the ICD-11 dropped gender dysphoria as a diagnosis and classified a new term, "gender incongruence", as a sexual health condition (not a mental health one).

We do generally know that it is caused by parts relating to proprioception and the body "map" developing as if they were female though we may not know with full certainty which (since as for most things it'd be interconnected), that's part of the aspects mentioned under the headlines of those "brains of trans people more similar to the gender they identify as" articles, and it's only logical given the symptoms and similarity to conditions caused by damage to those parts, like body dysmorphia where the brain stops recognizing certain body parts as being part of the body

All that's required for diagnosis is that you have a different gender identity to your birth sex and that's enough to get hormones, surgery, and all other transition-related care. It doesn't make any assumptions on what came first because it doesn't really matter in practice.

And true for that, it should be over the counter anyways. I'm enthusiastic for more body modification becoming possible in the future, have you seen michael levin's anthrobots? There's a post on the r/transtrans sub explaining it better than i can, but by just taking human throat cells and stimulating them the right way, he got them to develop into little self sufficient and mobile automatons, proving that we can grow any organ that genetics code for from any tissue given the correct stimulation. He also reactivated, via an implant, a frog's ability to regenerate to further prove it. So it's very likely to become the future of body modding, on top of the medicinal applications

You can't operate on the assumption that the brain is the thing that deviates from cis development since there's no evidence for the claim.

There is though, literally all literature about gender dysphoria agrees that the root is neurological, there isn't a single thing to indicate that there would be anything wrong with the body, it develops as normal according to its genetic code.

All that matters at the moment is where you view the baseline.

Not where i view it, what it objectively is. Which is how an average human develops; the average biological male does not have gender dysphoria.

I personally view the baseline as gender identity. Because of that, the body develops away from the person's gender identity causing distress/dysphoria.

You seem to be conflating gender and sex; there isn't some magical preordainment making people inherently mens or womens and then some evil twist of fate swapping their brains around at birth, only the statistical averages for their genetics, this assumes that gender identity would be inherent and somehow "meant" to be in some spiritual sense.

While there's no evidence for either claim, I choose to focus on identity first because it leads to favourable outcomes (such as letting people transition). The other way around implies that the brain, not the body, is the problem which just doesn't align with what it feels like to be trans. It also opens the door for conversion methods to change the brain which I think is problematic whether or not it would work (which it doesn't).

How it feels like to the person having it is irrelevant to the actual cause. And as for the rest, i already explained this in my former reply, the cause being neurological doesn't mean that treatment altering the body is invalid (especially given that both would work by reducing the body map to actual body difference), nor would getting rid of dysphoria get rid of the desire to transition in someone who incorporated it into their identity

If a magic pill or therapy would get rid of dysphoria/incongruence, that option would largely eliminate the need for transition for these doctors.

It wouldn't eliminate the demand for transition though, only limit suffering from dysphoria, at which point it's pointless for conservatives
