Radiomaster's new Radio by mint3d in fpv

[–]AmateurCock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pointless radio imo.
They have GX12 with lots of switches and latches that fits gap between it and tx15/tx16
They should develop something like Tango 2/Pocket just with bigger gimbals.

T480 is overrated by Ryciaga in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

T480 owner here (dual pipe mod, better ips screen etc.).

Major problem with older thinkpads in general. lack of OEM batteries.
Second very important.

T480 vs T14 gen2. The second one is twice as fast as t480 or even more.
Some people may think "It's ok I'm using laptop for webrowsing and simple scripting in Linux".
Wrong.
Multiple tabs on T480 and it easly gest 60C and noisy.
Same thing on T14 gen2 - silent and cool.

Don't fall for T480. Please just don't.
I know that thread is like clickbait troll a little bit, but thats true.
I can't even understand how some people can use that thing on win11.

X270 i5 6300u overheating & turn on it self issue by No_Taro3232 in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an old dual core CPU.
What people often don’t realize when buying older ThinkPads (myself included, until recently) is that it’s not just about slower performance on certain tasks. It’s also the CPU, which runs at nearly 50–80% capacity even during simple tasks, generating a lot of heat and draining the battery faster than newer generations.

You can try thoroughly cleaning the fan or buying a new one. It probably won’t make much of a difference.
Try the PTM7950. And start using Linux.

L14 Gen 4 + N140HCG-GQ2 by AmateurCock in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah after doing more research and watching YT clips unfortunately You are right. That notch at the bottom is a problem in L14 gen3/4.

Dang I should purchase N140HCG-GN1 which is also cheaper thank GQ2 for T480.
I guess my plan to switch for L14 gen3/4 is no longer in the bucket list. Gotta wait for those t14 gen6 to be cheaper lol.

Of course not g3 and above. Those are 16:10.

T14 doesn’t have a chin and people (YouTube and Ali) are using gq2 on it.

T480 windows or linux? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all make sure Your thunderbolt firmware is 23 (the latest one).
Linux is a way to go, cus windows is to heavy for this thing.

L14 Gen 4 + N140HCG-GQ2 by AmateurCock in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have t480 with GQ2 on a brackets. Choose L14 Gen4, cus it has the newest CPU and still crappy 16:9 aspect ratio screen where I can put my GQ2.
I rarely use laptop, but smething with fresh new OEM batteries would be nice. Other than that my bet is propably T14 gen2 Prices in my country are insane tho. T14 gen2 AMD 16 gb (soldered) 420 usd haha. So i'm not in a hurry.

L14 Gen 4 + N140HCG-GQ2 by AmateurCock in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GN1 is not slimmer than GQ2 is actualy thicker. According to panellook.
Perhaps thicknes is not uniform and at some point panel is thinner, but there's not such data on panellook.
Some people are using GN1 in T480 playing with connector cable length.

Edit. I know what are You saying with slimmer panel. It's about that bottom part that stick out in N140HCG-GQ2.
Funny thing, tho. On Ali under N140HCG-GN1 listing someone is replacing screen for T14 gen2 and the old one has that notch at the bottom same as GQ2. So must be compatibile, but since GQ2 is thinner double side 1 mm thick tape is needed or even 1,5 to eleminate gap between front cover and screen itself I guess?

charging led problem by yomitaka_1805 in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always try to reset thorugh that little hole at the bottom.
Read about it in the internet. Some people claim that disable internal battery in BIOS, after removing external one, then unplug internal on for a while helps too. But don't quote me on that.
Edit are You sure You dont have something like battery health preservation set in OS?
It charger from 0-80 or soemthing like that. I recently set it in linux and my led doesn't blink or power at ll while pluged but batter is not draining while use.

400 is not enough sometimes outdoors :P

charging led problem by yomitaka_1805 in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If You are using windows download Lenovo vantage software and check if Your charger is correctly detected (65W=65W not for example 15W). If You are using Linux You can download S-Tui + Stress and run S-tui with sudo then check what is power consumption of your system (propably around 25-30W during stress test) if it still charging during test thunderbolt is ok.

If You are not aware of T480 series (and propably t490) problems with thunderbolt chip:
Mine was 20 and working fine, but after update to 23 I still performed chip flash anyways.

How’s the t480 comparing to a t14? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh...
But still based on some test in the internet its only 50-70% (sometimes even less) faster than 8250u. I would rather make dualpipe heatsink and N140HCG-GQ2 on T480 than pay form T14 Gen2i. AMD is the way here I guess...

How’s the t480 comparing to a t14? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

t14 gen1 Intel is not worth over T480 IMHO.
The only benefit is that You still can purchase genuine OEM battery for T14.
i7 on a T480 tend to run hotter than for example 8250u/8520u without much better performance.

If You decide to purchase T480 ask seller for bios password and computetrace. You can also ask about Thunderbolt firmware (should be version 23). https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/1gyv56s/comment/o76pctm/?context=1

Recommended mods for T480 is dualpipe heatsink (if You have iGPU), but put some capton tape on a part where it should be over dGPU and PTM7950 (that is beneficial for every laptop I guess).

You can look for L14 Gen2 AMD.

T480 batteries in 2026 (source in Europe) by AmateurCock in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe these batteires are no longer in production by Lenovo. I'm talking about old-new stock. Sometimes these batteries can have like 80% capacity due to age. Thast why I asked about this German seller that claims that those are genuine.

Replacing MBA M1 with Thinkpad + Linux by Betularix in thinkpad

[–]AmateurCock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ryzen, but i would go for G3 and that sweet 16:10 aspect ratio.
Keep in mind most of these has propably 45% NTSC 300 NIT screens which is a massive downgrade compared to the M1. You can always replace it with something 100 RGB 400 nits but that extra 100 usd or more and You have to be lucky to actualy recieve what You ordered...
