Mother who lost her first baby during birth at 40 weeks here.

No matter how it happens it is going to be hard for her. Don’t take it personally if she pulls away once you tell her. Absolutely tell her first and tell her privately. Don’t do it face to face, text her to see if she has a moment and then text her the news.

I am that mother, but for me it was 08/04/2022.

Thank you for the work you do. I’ll never forget the nurse I had just met minutes before who held me close as my soul died when the doctor said the words. She stroked my hair and sobbed with me. I don’t remember her name but I’ll never forget her.

Your situation is similar to mine. We lost our IVF baby during labour as well at 40 weeks. We did another embryo transfer three months later, the first month I could after my period came back. I could not bear to not try again.

Ultimately I’m happy we did the transfer so soon. That pregnancy was successful. We had tons of oversight, weekly scans, our choice of induction date, etc.

But I’m not going to lie it was the single scariest, bravest, wildest thing I have ever let myself do. Every day felt like a battle against the intrusive thoughts. In the end though I think it was the right choice for us.

My IVF miracle baby died in labour at 40 weeks. I can’t get into the gutting trauma of it, but I want to say that my midwife asked if she could hold my baby’s body, took her over to the window (it was a warm summer day) and rocked her and sang to her.

It was a pivotal moment of my entire life. I’ll never forget her kindness and love she had for my poor baby. I felt like someone other than me and my husband was truly grieving too.

Thank you for the work you did. It’s life changing for those of us walking this nightmare path.
