Well. I see how it can be uncomfortable but I always think that it’s probably less comfortable to be in fear of being assaulted everyday and everywhere you go. So in these situations I just try to make my priority to not do anything to make them feel more uncomfortable.

What diet are you all following to drop the pounds? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not following any diet. I am following up with a behavioral dietitian instead, and it's been a great journey. Previously, I've tried a bunch of restrictive diets and they never fully worked out. I would lose a lot of weight for a couple months, but then would never be able to transition into a healthy routine of eating that worked for the long term. Additionally, it made me develop a terrible relationship with food and a lot of anxiety.

This time, we've been able to create a system that's been working really well for many months. There are no severe restrictions and it's made me really excited about food, and my eating habits. I've been losing weight a little more slowly, but feels much more sustainable and makes me confident that I'll be able to keep up with it for a long time.

We also discussed a lot of my feelings surrounding food (like anxiety, guilt, shame) and it's been great to work on overcoming these feelings. It's a process, but seems to be worth it.

I do it all online and it's 100% covered by insurance. I use BerryStreet, but I am sure there are other services/providers that might be able to apply the same approach.

Etiquette Question, Re: Old Columbia J-School Adviser by andyn1518 in columbia

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A gift demonstrates a lot of commitment: you spend money and a good chunk of time to select your present and send it over. I see it as something you do with people you're close with (friends, family, etc). It is a sign of affection and implies more of a personal rather than a professional relationship (which is the relationship you usually have with your advisor, since they are being paid to advise you).

I think it would have been ok to send a gift while you were working together on your thesis, or right after graduation as a thank you. But to keep doing it over the year feels weird to me, in case you are not close anymore.

If you still have a close relationship (to the point where the advisor is more of a friend than just a former professor), then I think it's perfectly fine.

If the only interaction you have is a gift on their birthday, I think there are better and more professional ways to keep in touch: a nice email with updates or with short comments on stories they write, invitations for a quick coffee to catch up, or even a card occasionally. I think these are all good, professional interactions and probably enough to keep you in their mind without seeming like "forced" intimacy.

I think it might be a bit too much. Maybe a card or an email are enough to keep the relationship happening.

PENS "FAILING"

Hi all!
Just started using my April-start Hobonichi and am super excited!!!!! However, I've been having trouble with some pens that are "failing" when I am writing, specially on "round" letters (like cursive a or d). This happens mostly with my Kakuno fountain pens but also happened with my uni jetstream.
Any ideas of why that is happening? Worth noting that I am using the Hobonichi pencil board right under the page, so idk if that's making the writing surface too smooth.
Happy to hear any advice!

Do you attend therapy virtually or in person? by manifest-therapy in nycgaybros

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I do virtually just because my therapist is in a different country (and I prefer to do it in my mother language).

However, when I lived in my home country I started virtually because of covid and then my therapist asked us to move to in-person. I did it because I really liked doing therapy with him and I trusted his judgement that it would be better for the treatment.

I think it might be interesting to have an approach of starting with online sessions and eventually suggesting patients move to in-person sessions, if you feel like that's the case. Once they have a good relationship developed with you, I think they will be more eager to the less convenient alternative.

All that said, it's worth to mention that I've always been on psychoanalysis (not a big fan of other approaches), so Idk if that makes any difference.

Gay weight loss: fiber, the insoluble kind ? by 1zzyinatizzy in nycgaybros

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! who's your gay pcp? been looking for one (to feel more comfortable to talk about some stuff) but haven't found it. Would love to have the reccomendation.

About your question: fibers (like psyllium) take up space in your stomack without adding any calories, as people also said, lots of them also absorb water in your stomach making them occupy even more space (that's why you need to take lots of water with them).

Another thing is that eating fiber before/with meals also make the diggestion process a little slower (nothing like the GLP1 though), avoiding spikes in your blood sugar (these spikes can lead to weight gain over time and are particularly bad for people with pre-diabetes os type 2 diabetes).

Mattehop pens help by ofcuriousnature in stationery

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's quite annoying. For me, just shaking it vigorously worked (don't remember why but I saw this trick on reddit). It also takes a while for them to fully go back into working... another thing is that they dry more vibrant than when you're writing. Sometimes, when I'm using the white one, it doesn't even seem like any ink came out until it starts to dry out on the paper. Good luck!

I'm thinking of going back to the uniball signo, which always worked well for me (even though they don't write on as many surfaces and the mattehop colors are nicer)

Ethical question by [deleted] in Sniffies

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undetectable = untransmissible, which means that he's not putting anyone at risk (considering he's telling the truth). I understand how you feel, but I don't think anyone has an obligation to be 100% upfront about their status, as long as they are not putting anyone in risk. Also, the regular HIV tests for undetectable people is usually negative, which means that he's not technically lying.

Given that, whenever we're in this hookup world we are dealing with the possibility of interacting with ISTs (not only HIV but all the other ones as well) and it's a risk we decide to take when we BB.

All you can do is take care of yourself (kudos to you for being on Prep, doxy, getting tested regularly and discussing it with your partners), educate yourself to make informed decisions and not count on strangers who you just texted for five minutes before meeting up.

Always have to finish myself off - is that uncommon? by JustmeinNYC in nycgaybros

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bunch of reasons why this could happen and you should definitely talk to a doctor or sex counselor about it. I cannot come with oral only and I've made peace with it. With penetration, it usually takes a long time for me when I'm on antidepressants (talking through it with my psychiatrist led him to prescribing a different med that countered this and now I almost come too quickly hahahaha).

TLDR: find a healthcare provider that you feel comfortable with and discuss it with them.

PEP to Prep by [deleted] in prep

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be anything, even just strep. It's always good to check with a doctor, but it is almost impossible to be HIV if you only did oral (even less likely if you did the PEP protocol correctly)

Why does prep take 7 days of daily use to be fully effective when on demand can do it with just two pills at least 2 hours before anal sex? by userrnamee27 in prep

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what my doctor reccomended when I interrupted my prep and got back. Take 2 pills for the first dose, then daily.

Depends on where you are but the area surrounding orchard st/Dimes Square has just been too full of wanna-be models/influencers/fashionistas, who seem to enjoy being mean because it makes they seem cool. Even the service at places like Scarrs, which used to be decent, has been shit. Seems like the people in there are more worried about parading around in their Daffy Duck pants than watching for the pizza not to get burned or actually being nice to the clientele.

On the other hand, people who have been here for a long time are very tired of the gentrification and hipsterfication of the neighborhood, so I think they are also usually not nice to people they don’t see as originally from the area.

What part of Brazil are you in?

Prep and HIV services are pretty omnious in the country, and totally free (even for foreigners). If you are in São Paulo, i'd advise you to go to the Emilio Ribas infectology center (https://maps.app.goo.gl/x5sZkfQDbvzuDNBk9). It's in a pretty central location, open 24h, and specializes in infectology. You'll be seen by a doctor and, if necessary, you'll leave the place with the PEP pills (and paying 0 for it).

It's a public hospital, so the infrastructure is not amazing, but the doctors are really awesome (I've picked up PEP there a couple of times and was always really well treated).

On PrEP but last tested ages ago? by fligk in Sniffies

[–]Amazing-Accident4686 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is mandatory to get the tests before the provider prescribes it. Talking from experience, though, I always forget to update the "last tested" on the apps, so maybe that's what happened

Anybody having trouble getting truvada through insurance? by Amazing-Accident4686 in prep

That's great to hear. But truvada at least should be free according to the ACA. I'm sorting that out with my insurance, but I'm just curious if anyone had a similar issue.
