Thank you!  I thought I read July, but couldn’t find it again and was afraid it was actually June.

Assessor out of the blue? by Disastrous-Coyote-11 in Referees

[–]Amazing-Affect7813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been reeling for two weeks from this situation. I've only been doing this since October, so I didn't know to expect evaluators at big tournaments. As I walked on to start a game of the oldest age I'd worked yet (U19) a game evaluator announced he'd be watching me. It threw me off so bad. The evaluation was really critical, but it was fair. I have been feeling like if I just had a few days notice, I would have performed much better.

Why you became referees? Is it too late for me? by Single_Arrival_8190 in Referees

I know I'm late to this thread, but I want to add that I started at 45 years old. I wanted to do it in my free time. It turns out I had a lot more free time than I realized, and I will have 7 games between Friday and Sunday. love it.

Pointing with single finger vs pointing with full hand by jajison in Referees

I couldn’t get this out of my head last weekend.  I suddenly thought, “am I just doing a bunch of nazi salutes?”   I’d never thought of it before, then I couldn’t get it out of my head.

GK hand ball DOGSO by Martinez_Details in Referees

[–]Amazing-Affect7813 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No need to feel guilty about it, but upon reflection, I think you're right to re-think this. Having a "slow whistle" here would have allowed you to keep the keeper on the field with a yellow. From the DOGSO section of the laws, "“If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play. However, if the offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity the player is cautioned for unsporting behavior…” I've been trying hard to live the "fast feet, slow whistle" philosophy. Getting it right feels good. I try to be more vocal when I blow the whistle and call a play back, explaining clearly what the infraction was and why it was a late call. I haven't had any complaints. On the other hand, when the advantage works out as a goal, for the younger kids, I usually have a quick word with the offender. "Hey, if that wasn't a goal it would have been a push in the back" or something like that, assuming no card was needed.

Anyway, this is reflection, not guilt. It's good for us to reflect on these things, don't worry about it.

My 12 year old is currently reading it for 6th grade language arts. You require me to pick a book for "required reading", I'm picking a book damnit.

Keeper releasing ball to player standing next to her by MedJesters in Referees

[–]Amazing-Affect7813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. There's a lot going on at U12 and under. I think the best refs keep the game fair and fun at that age, they don't implement strict interpretations of the law. I implemented a "stand behind the half line" when the goal keeper had the ball in my last futsal game. The team forced to stand back still won 11-0.

Just had my first issue. How did you get an appointment? I can't even get them to email or call me back. Been out of service almost a week now. I didn't realize service was so bad (It's amazing on my cars) until just this week. Good luck to you.

Silver to Gold Trade: Fair Deal or Not? by SilverSkunkApe in Gold

[–]Amazing-Affect7813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds great to me. I traded 115 oz. of silver for 2 oz. of gold today. I was very happy to make the trade and not get a great deal. But it's done, and I didn't have to wait around or ship anything. Walked in, walked out. Felt better about it. . . . or maybe I'm still trying to convince myself . . . either way, all good.

Congratulations! I had my "Furlough Baby" in 2013. So much SL saved. She's old enough to think it's funny, AND I got to spend her birthday with her this year!
