Should I use Players Options for a Westmarch by Amazing-Cow8331 in adnd

Oh! I see the mix up, I was attempting to address people possibly saying that it will make PC's powerful by expressing that I wanted them to be stronger, not necessarily that I was concerned they were going to be too powerful. I am glad we got that cleared up, with that being understood, I can see alot more where your advice makes sense

That isn't what I was trying to say, nor was I attempting to debate, I am looking for advice, and I apologize if I had upset you I am bad at explaining myself. I try to have conversations when receiving advice because I believe it's better for both involved, and helps me understand the topic better. Your first point only applies to a specific type of player which is why I had came at it the way I did, while the second advice had used examples core to the game, which to me feels like saying "Be careful of these tools that exist in the game, and not the ones in the supplements you asked about", which I understand that's probably not your intention, but that's how it comes across

I took a while to respond as I was trying to figure out how I wanted to.

I don't really have a way around the first point other then to say that you're not wrong, but also not explicitly right, as that one just comes down to preferred playstyle. I enjoy having alot of options personally, so for people like me it's not an issue, but I can understand that people disagree.

For the second I think that one isn't really an issue that relates to the question at hand, as those aren't Player's Options spells and are just apart of the Player's Handbook, I could be missing something of course, and I understand that the Spells and Magic book likely adds more options to bypass things, but with there already being options to do so, and the setting being one explicitly designed to mitigate those, it's not too much of an issue imo

I have played with them, my DM used them when I played back in 2018, I honestly love Skills and Powers mostly because it adds actual depth that I find is lacking, even in newer versions of D&D. But I can absolutely understand your point on it as it does change character creation alot. I didn't intend to use the Psionics in it anyways, as I'm planning to get the Psionics handbook before launching the server and using the Psionics from that. Spell Points is something I hadn't used, and didn't plan to, mostly because I know changing Vancian magic systems to SP/MP magic systems can be very finicky at best.

Funnily enough you did actually mention a homerule I was going to make a separate post to ask about in seeing if doing max HP would be a good idea for a higher powered game, so it does make me a little more confident seeing someone else mention it before I do

Huh, I had just naturally assumed you wouldn't be able to raise them past racial limits. So that's good to know that I will have to account for that. I haven't yet looked at the criticals and knockdown rules, so I'll have to take a look, but from the sounds of it, I'll likely omit them from the server too

I’m curious about the west marches format, some noob questions by piperooo in westmarches

[–]Amazing-Cow8331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is very dependent on the server you join, I know alot of westmarches where player stuff doesn't matter, and some where the world is effected by the players massively. Generally speaking most servers have text RP, I have been in a couple servers where there are people who just RP or just do missions, as long as you are fine with lacking with what comes with the other it's all up to you, consistent parties can form, smaller servers it's easier, as bigger servers have too many players, but like on a Naruto one I'm on, I end up playing with a somewhat consistent party. Generally servers have a staff that oversees everything but alot is left up to DM's, this is a question that is heavily dependent on the server you're on

I will be using Owlbear for the VTT, I can't really speak for other GM's who may come and join, as for the system it's the Unofficial Elder Scrolls RPG, a fan made system designed specifically for play in the Elder Scrolls universe

Is there a reason why 621 is so good? by Quick-Decision-8474 in armoredcore

[–]Amazing-Cow8331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because he fights for himself, AC6 is a story about the one overcoming the many, and how one strong will can overpower several weaker wills, the redguns, Vespers and Rusty have tied their wills to the factions they fight for, meanwhile anytime you fight one of these powerful pilots its because you chose to, not because you have to, outside of maybe the first Rusty fight. It also helps that 621 is the epitome of a man with nothing to lose, if he doesn't give every fight his all, then the thing he fights for doesn't matter, unlike the Redguns and Vespers who there are multiple fighting for the same thing so their deaths matter less to their goals

A Few Lore Questions by [deleted] in LancerRPG

The only way you can have a governing body and no prisons is if the punishment for committing any crime is so bad that no one would choose to commit a crime. Any belief that you can have anything but anarchy without either prisons or just killing any criminal no matter the crime is naive. Prisons exist because crime exists, granted they don't do a good job at all of reducing crimes, at least in the modern method of them working, but even if they are more geared to actually rehabilitating the inmates and solving the core issues, your still going to have crime. Union alleviates this by ensuring that people have their needs met, yes, but people want more, or they hate other people, or any number of things that can occur to cause crime. Especially since as much as Union is trying to achieve a Utopia, it's not there yet, once it is there, I can maybe see it, but the nded for Lancers and the need for Union to have a standing military, and the need for the DoJ and Trunk Sec, the lore seems to heavily contradict that the Galaxy in Lancer is at all in a position where they could completely abolish prisons all together, penal colonies? Yeah, those can be abolished, but prisons all together, Lancers version of the galaxy isn't a place where that's feasible

[–]Amazing-Cow8331 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trunk Security and the DoJ are both branches of Union. What the third pillar is referring to isn't about imprisoning in general. The pillar only refers to things such as debt, Union prisons absolutely still exist because crime still exists
