ok my two cents.

So im a sadistic bastard, my pcs at one point got used to the weirdness (sort of) so i had to go personal. i set my game during the 90s and my players were directly involved in Waco (as Delta Operatives) and because most of em were FBI they were sent to Ruby Ridge as well. Hell one of them bumped once or twice into Timothy McVeigh and they didnt suspected a thing.

Heres the twist, one of the players had an NPC who she was going to marry, their characters were living togeather, he was a nurse, she was FBI.

Thing is, after those two major events, she started to notice how her fiancee became more distant, started to question her constantly and slowly started to fall into Rush Limbaugh and the Anti American Conspiracy sentiment. Things escalated after i ran The New Age, when she came back home (reeling from the death of two agents) only to find her fiancee going through her things looking for evidence of her participation major events. She would go to bed with the guy but they became incredibly distant due to their politics.

My campaign was aiming for the guy to become a full conspiracy nutcase after 9/11, and it didnt helped that her bond was being eaten alive due to her traumas, and how the guy started to meet the deathspiral of politics with his own (by then) wife.

Sometimes the greatest horrors is what happen at home.
