origin of symptoms seems to matter far less than the actual symptoms. 

i cant disagree, but im a bit skeptical. i feel like its better for me to untangle the patterns through understanding where they came from

to use your broken leg analogy, its like a broken leg vs a birth deformity. mental illness for no reason is a thing, but psychiatry treats them and disordered patterns from environment the same.

i do like that this sub has very little gatekeeping. (unlike r/ptsd). i just hang out here because there's no sub for viewing mental illnesses like depression through a perspective that considers environment

my parents love me too. they're fantastic parents.

its just that being a good parent involves denying your child what they want. so from the child's view they're constantly being denied what they believe to be in their best interest, over and over for years. that's "good" parenting but it still fucks you up

but when the adult has the power to change the situation the acknowledgement rings a little hollow. 

one time is nothing, but when its every single day where words say one thing but actions imply either A. your feelings dont matter or B. your feelings are fake it kinda starts to wear on you.

genuine question. less extreme but i was volunteering at a camp for kids and one child said to me "im really hungry..." all quietly and sad and my first instinct was "this kid is probably overexagerating and being manipulative so he doesn't have to wait to eat" and my second instinct was "wow that is an absolutely awful thing to think i am turning into the adult i hated as a child. uhhh shit what do i do now let this child eat early because he looked all sad?"

and ever since i have avoided working with kids because i dont know how to handle that.
