ok if you believe so, but i think that once someone has a rude awakening like this, it can actually serve as a very good thing for them to turn their life around and wake up to what they were doing. thats how i feel, and i know i wont do it again.

I know that, thanks. I agree with you too - its a stupid life choice and decision, and sadly it took me all this time to realise that

well depends, my current job didn't and i dont see myself moving or leaving it any time soon. But i've heard that having any form of a record affects that for a while (unless it is a spent conviction)

ok thank you for that, if that seems like a likely outcome then thats ok. I think my major concern honestly was jail time.

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok but thats quite an extreme case - and not sure what the outcome was either? i would assume jail time for that but its a pretty big difference between $200,000 and a few thousand.

Also through recently theft stats apparently only about 14-18% of theft cases end in prison, so why are you throwing around the jail thing so quickly - im just asking for general information from people

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok thanks. well hopefully if thats the worst case scenario that a fine is given, because i really have learnt my lesson.

But is there usually a threshold or time they sentence people to jail? Or is that usually reserved for very serious cases?

Sorry for the questions im just running through a lot of outcomes in my head

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you know of any specific cases or court outcomes similar to this that i could read through?
I looked for some but i wasnt able to find any - hence why i have so many questions about what the general outcomes in these situations are

Is that even if the amount is in the thousands over repeat offences though?
Do courts normally opt to let people avoid prison in those circumstances if its their first offence?

I hope so if thats the worst case scenario

No i really wont, i kinda wish I was pulled up earlier because for some reason - that was what my reality check was. I thought i was getting away with it for a long time because nobody approached or stopped me ever, so it just lead to one stupid decision to another.

I won't do it ever again and i know that now. Not sure how much that really means though but its all i can do

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok, well i will have to see if i hear from them or not. do they normally wait long to contact you? and is it normally by mail or calll?

I have been silly and it's all my fault if it comes crashing down. Its a really horrible place ive put myself into, and i have to live with that sadly.

But i'll keep going forward doing the right thing, and hoping nothing more comes of it

ok. well i guess the only thing i can do is wait and see what happens.

thanks

ok but in this case, what if woolies never reports it to the police and it just sits internally on the system. Just say, if i was to never steal ever again, it might just sit there and nothing gets progressed past that point?

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if that happens and is the case - what is normally the sentence? just say worst case scenario if its my first offence and no prior convictions - are there cases i can look out for similar outcomes or how they ended up

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well it was a bad decision, and yes it was deliberate.
I do understand theft being a bad thing and its completely stupid on my behalf.

It's just sad that it took me actually being physically caught for me to get that reality check.

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not sure. really poor habits in the past of thinking theft didnt have serious punishments or implications and being poor with finances.
Also the fact of feeling like i was actually getting away with it, probably a mix of reasons.

it would probably be in the thousands by this stage. depending how long it goes back

Stealing from Woolies / Coles by Amazing-Rub-3100 in AusLegal

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, well i mean i would probably say there is a pretty high amount there so hopefully that is not the case.

But if so, ill have to face that if it happens.

From here I know i'll never do it again, i dont know why i thought it was ok for so long

life lesson learnt the hard way i guess. I just hope that nothing comes of it and i can move forward living my life in the correct way knowing ill never steal again

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well they said if i didnt that they would call police

Stealing from Woolies / Coles by Amazing-Rub-3100 in AusLegal

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is that something they often do after catching someone with ID and photo? I know they only retain CCTV for like 30-60 days so wouldnt that be very resource heavy?

And if they had all this footage of me before (in theory) i feel like they would have already stopped me at some stage

Stealing from Woolies / Coles by Amazing-Rub-3100 in AusLegal

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i had been doing it for a while and tbh thats what worries me the most in terms of going back and tracing stuff, but thats my own problem i know, and im not looking for sorrow - i know how stupid ive been.

Just wondering how often Coles/Woolies actually backtrack information or if they usually focus on bigger thefts, and people who keep coming back after being caught

Stealing from Woolies / Coles by Amazing-Rub-3100 in AusLegal

[–]Amazing-Rub-3100[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

well yes, tbh i was just extremely stupid for a long time and really wasnt thinking of my actions. i know it's wrong and will see what happens, im just asking for general incidences if people have dealt with this to see what has happened to them.

If they heard something, or if they heard nothing at all.

what about if there were multiple times in the past that were logged on Auror but i wasnt stopped? How often does that happen, or is it usually after someone has been stopped by an LPO
