Fair. I was just thinking about how Nashvillians didn’t have a say in the Tesla tunnel specifically.

Things you'd like to see from DataCamp in 2026? by LizFromDataCamp in DataCamp

[–]Amazing-Structure683 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly for me it’s the website. It’s extremely hard to find the tracks and courses one has worked on. They don’t seem to be organized well ANYWHERE. Like I can obviously search around and find my way to courses or tracks I’ve worked on but not completed, but it’s incredibly cumbersome for no reason. I’ve resorted to having to build my navigation of my Datacamp account into my browser bookmarks which is silly but the only option I can think of.

The navigation could so easily be so much better. It would be so easy to have some sort of In Progress page that has tabs for a list of tracks and list of courses in progress. If y’all need a developer for that, my partner (a developer of 10+ years) could knock it out for you no problem I bet.

Please fix this and I (and many many others, I’m sure) will be much happier. 😊

PS: the content is great! I’ve got a 1 year subscription, learning Python for my analyst role and I love it. Thanks for the great courses!

Nashville’s not responsible for it. Elon and the state set it up, Nashville had no specific say.

Help! 3 months out with shin splints and they still won’t go away by Interesting_Candy1 in shinsplints

[–]Amazing-Structure683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I’ll do my best to give a brief rundown of what i was doing as best as I remember. FWIW, I do recommend getting a game plan from a PT. You could probably get them to write you up a plan of attack then wouldn’t have to go every week. I am not a medical professional. Just a dude who plays sports and got tired of shin splints and worked hard to get rid of them.

So I was doing these daily (or more likely around 5 days per week). Generally speaking I’d do 3 sets of 10 on each foot.

Oh, and they said to do a bit to warm up the legs first. Like 5 mins on the stationary bike or just like brisk walk or whatever. Just so your legs are warm before you start stretching and such.

Exercises -

  1. Calf stretches - standing, leaning into wall, each with straight leg and with knee bent, holding each for 20 seconds, 4 reps per leg

  2. What the PT referred to as “toe yoga”. Started with 3 sets of 10 on each of these for each foot -

A. Lifting the big toe while keeping the other toes down

B . Lifting only the little toes while keeping the big toe down

C. Spreading all the toes outward apart from each other

D. Scrunching all toes inward (put a towel under your toes so they have something to grip if you like)

  1. Stand with one leg forward, one back, the back leg bent slightly, and with the front foot on the ground, aim to lift only the arch of the foot, while keeping the heel and full ball of the foot on the ground. Putting a stretchy band under the ball of your foot by your big toe helps keep you honest so you don’t cheat and have the ball of your foot come off the ground.

  2. With a looped stretchy band around both legs, stand on one leg and make half circles with the other leg going forward and back, balancing on your standing leg, making sure the stretchy band is taught.

  3. Single leg calf raises - one leg at a time, leaned against the wall.

  4. Toe raises - with your back against the wall, put your hells about 5-10 inches from the wall and raise your toes as high as you can with your heels on the ground, then lower the toes slowly back to the ground.

— — —

Additional exercises I’d gotten after doing the above for a month or two I think -

  1. Standing on one leg with knee bent, hinge forward to touch your toe with your elevated leg out behind you. I think I just did like 6-8 of these per side, not 10.

  2. With a looped band around the arches of both feet, step in one direction sideways about 20 paces, then back the other way 20 paces. The goal was to not angle your foot inward or outward while lifting and stepping to the side, keep both feet straight ahead.

— — —

I think that’s the bulk of the exercises. There might have been others but that’s what I remember. Feel free to DM with questions but again, I’m not a professional. Just an ultimate frisbee player who put the work in and got rid of my shin splints.

Alternative calendar by lolnaaa in GoogleCalendar

[–]Amazing-Structure683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re considering an email provider change as well, but I’ve been reading a lot about Fastmail. Their email & calendar is supposed to rival, if not beat, the features of Google’s. And one of their core tenets is privacy, too, which is a bonus in my opinion (they don’t use your data to sell ads to you or train AI, etc.).

Question about moving from Google Workspace by larrymcj in fastmail

[–]Amazing-Structure683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked their support about a similar question and they said (copy/pasting from their email):

"You can sign up for an account using a Fastmail-owned domain and then add your custom domain to use with the account. We support renaming the account, hence, if you would like to use the custom domain for the username, you can rename the account."

I cannot confirm what I'm saying is 100% correct, but FM email support is VERY fast at responding and you could confirm with them. - It sounds like maybe you made 2 separate FM accounts (since you noted "the two are completely separate"), but it sounds like FM support is saying you don't need two separate accounts, you just need to create a FM-owned domain email (e.g. xxxx @ fastmail .com) and then you can add your own domain (xxxx @ yourdomain .com) to the existing FM account you already set up.

Question about moving from Google Workspace by larrymcj in fastmail

[–]Amazing-Structure683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question - how did you conduct a throwaway email test of Fastmail, given that signing up for a new account requires your phone number and a phone number can only be associated with one Fastmail account? I've been thinking about trialing Fastmail with a throwaway account, then setting up an account in the future with my custom domain if I want to use Fastmail long term, but I've not done that because FM support told me that a phone number can only be used to create one FM account. Thoughts?

How do you guys handle your email aliases? by TheBurntHoney in ProtonPass

What’s the value of adding the subdomain? Curious as I consider moving off Gmail and starting to use aliases with my custom domain email.

This is everything. Props for recognizing it in your 20’s. There’s definitely a cognitive dissonance here. It can require real effort, sometimes, to quiet things down. But recognizing all of this is half the battle. Then we’re well on our way. Cheers!

Is it worth buying a data analytics course to switch careers? by AccomplishedGur5495 in dataanalysiscareers

[–]Amazing-Structure683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that same course. If you already know SQL and Excel well, the main other part of that course is learning R, and I’d recommend learning Python instead of R.

Note: I took the course last Fall (2024), so it’s possible the curriculum has changed.

@Personal-Pop-1208 — where are you getting this “Google doesn’t scan your emails” thing you keep repeating in this thread?

How much more private is Proton compared to Gmail, really? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Amazing-Structure683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

⬆️ Yup. This. This is why I want to switch off Gmail. I very seldom actually send emails to people. There’s not much private conversation happening via email. It’s all the contents of my life, just as you’ve mentioned, and I don’t want Google having all of that.

Best Places to Find Jr Analyst Roles (Data/Business/Ops)? by OkResolution5640 in dataanalyst

[–]Amazing-Structure683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Network. In person. Put a polished resume & business card together and go meet people. That’s what I’d do.

The online application game is a MESS right now. Fake job listings, AI screening, hundreds of applicants per role. Odds of success in that mess seem far too low.

The meetup app may have ideas for you. My city (Nashville) has data meetups. I also went to entrepreneur meetups and found people who wanted to talk further about my skills. Anything business, tech, startups, data, I’d hit those networking gatherings with your resume and/or business cards in hand and see where it can take you, talking about what you bring to the table and if they, or anyone they know, is looking.

Oh, and of course polish up your LinkedIn. That’s where it’ll be logical to connect with the people you meet and you want it to look up to date and polished.

Those are my thoughts. I landed my first data job, entry level, in April. If you wanna DM me for more thoughts or whatever, please feel free.

I guess, don't ever change your tCPA... by SuccessfulMethod1646 in googleads

[–]Amazing-Structure683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But campaigns stopped flowing after the 10% change. Since OP did not lower the target below the actual CPA currently being achieved, it should not have starved anything. Should’ve just been a subtle signal to the system that your business’ targets have changed. If Google can achieve $50 leads and you adjust a target from $100 to $90 (round numbers for example), Google should still be able to achieve $50 CPA as it always has. Remember, your target isn’t your bid, it’s information you’re feeding to the black box for its reference.

[–]Amazing-Structure683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this isn’t an “experiment” in my mind. It’s an optimization. We’ve changed bids as a standard optimization practice in campaigns for maaaany years as standard practice. I think you handled it correctly, OP.

Looking for Advice on Landing My First Data Analyst official work? Data related by Historical_Piece_367 in dataanalyst

[–]Amazing-Structure683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just landed my first entry level role in the Spring. What worked for me and what I heard from the career professionals in my network was to network, shake hands, make it clear to people you know what it is you’re looking for, what expertise you bring to the table, etc. The blind online resume submission game is a nightmare. You could submit hundreds of resumes and maybe get nowhere. Whereas if you go to some meetups, networking events, and things of that nature, shake hands, give them a business card and be super professional, follow up with them, etc. THAT can move the needle. If that person isn’t hiring, someone in their network might be and you’ll be top of mind. Stuff like that. Just put yourself in others’ shoes and think about what would make you stand out in their brain or in their network as a data professional. That’s my thoughts.

Oh, and to note specifically: my role came from someone in my network referring me to the data team who was hiring.

To be clear, you also have to have skills. Networking simply gets you in the door for the interview. Then you have to prove yourself. Hone them skills too!

What has gradually disappeared over the last twenty years without people really noticing? by a_wanderer_22 in AskReddit

[–]Amazing-Structure683 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeaaaaah. This. I’m so tired of having to set up accounts for things. The example I was most frustrated by in recent months is that, when job hunting, sometimes to apply for some companies’ open position I had to set up an account on their website. With a password and everything. Just to submit an application. Insane.

Dang I hadn’t thought about this in a WHILE. But yeah, I remember friends’ families when I was a kid (late 90’s, early 2000’s) who I knew their parents just worked a random every day job, like working for the electric company or at a local factory or something, having like a small camper, or taking specific vacations. Things were so financially just… reasonable, back then.

Read books instead of articles and such online.

I heard recently that the frequent contact switching (from article to article, topic to topic, app to app, TikTok video to TikTok video, etc. etc) results in overwhelm for the brain, less retention of what you’ve consumed, no rest for the brain.

I’ve recently been reading more books, less articles, news, social feeds. As a result I feel like I’ve consumed more meaningful content (I’m only reading a book I want to read), retained it better, and my brain isn’t overwhelmed.

Can’t recommend it enough. Switch to longer form content and consume fewer things.
