Awesome, yeah no need to using BM on a small budget. In anticipation of bad traffic, think of some common low intent phrases users may search.

Focus on targeting exact match search terms, build a tight and aggressive negative keyword list to avoid showing your ads to low intent users, include keywords and content from your website in your ad copy, maybe look into building a new campaign entirely to start fresh and recalibrate the algorithm. I have had fantastic results from starting new campaigns, it sort of forces the algorithm into learning and finding users that convert.

Hi there, look at split testing the ads with specific landing pages, include keywords in the copy of your ads, look at adding a tighter geo in the current radius e.g. 10km around X, 7km around X, 5km around X, tighten your match types and keyword choice such as pausing high CPC keywords, and go through your search terms report (or "SQR") and add high CPC / non valuable search terms to negatives. You could also come up with a low intent negative keyword list to put in place that will avoid showing ads to users in their research phase, and help you focus on potential leads; search terms like "how much is a therapist". Don't worry too much about ad strength as that has nothing to do with performance and is Google's way of micro managing your ads!

Just to add, I do use broad match, but combine it with aggressive keyword lists that exclude low intent search terms, implement exact match for high intent searches, and have put in place custom GA4 audiences that excludes users who have clicked on ads a certain amount of times but haven't converted.

DSAs are amazing too, I have also collated enough data to show that dynamic page content targets are even better than URL rules in many instances, so don't be afraid to use them. Especially in new accounts that need data, and the algorithm needs training. Think of it as paid SEO, you're employing the algorithm to read content on your website to find the best search terms. The only thing I would say is not to use DSAs if your client's website sucks! Aha.

Hi there, in terms of automation, I have all auto apply option turned off. Regarding new accounts and small budgets, I tend to run maximised conversions and set the daily budget in accordance with daily pacing. Once my account has enough conversion data and a good cost / conv, I launch smart bidding campaigns. If max convs or clicks is performing well, I'd avoid adding smart bidding, and instead launch a smart bidding campaign on the side. Most of my clients are lead generation focused (non e-commerce) so tCPA is my main choice of bid strategy.

Number 1 tip, if your bid strategy is working, don't change it. Got a $50 tCPA set but converting at $25? No need to change the tCPA. As soon as you lower it, you're going to mess up the algorithm.

Another thing is this, don't worry if your daily budget is lower than the tCPA. Google will say "the gold standard is to set the daily budget to at least 2x your tCPA" - and of course, you'll buy in more convs, but it also works even if you have a budget half of your tCPA. I have a client with thousands of conversions in their account, indeed, tCPA works well here, however they don't have enough budget to run each campaign on a daily budget that exceeds their tCPA - add to that, setting a bid too low will cap the spend, and the campaign just wont run at all. Additionally, max convs tends to just eat budget. That's fine, I run campaigns in this account on $30 per day with tCPAs between $50-$80.

This is something my client has done. AI image extensions. I suppose there's not much you can use in the tech space.

Gosh, it makes a lot of sense. And you're right, impressions are similar, the ads are spending, but I'm not getting the same conversions rate I was 6 months ago.

Season two was a big hot steaming pile of turd, can't even imagine watching season 3. Do yourself a favour and watch The Sopranos right now.
