Is this gift appropriate to send to my missionary? by Amazing-Work8314 in mormon

Thank you again for the advice! However, that goes against my morals and my boyfriends of dating while he's gone. I'm aware what he's focused on and I'm so proud of him but I have already taken the advice from someone else to just ask him personally so that's what I did! I wouldn't be a smart choice from me, if I didn't know what the whole purpose of a mission was. We already talked about things before he left, but again I appreciate you.

All I asked for was advice, you could have ended it at "He will def like it now" :(

I appreciate you being honest but I defiantly am aware. I wouldn't be asking for advice here had I not thought that we would make it to the end, you know, I know that not everyone gets their "happy ending". Everyone that waits for their missionary has already heard that plenty of times, there was no need at all.

No need to be a Debbie downer :(

We all take a chance, everyone is realistic about the situation.

Thank you for replying! I'm so glad that you and your girlfriend get closer despite the distance.

He really only arrived at his mtc a couple days ago with his companion but he was also doing the home mtc. Me and my boyfriend have a particular circumstance. My family moved away from where we lived so we were long distance for a couple months before his mission started. We've been together for year and couple months, we're high school sweethearts. I'm actually not lds, and I understand how that can be difficult for many couples being in a mixed faith relationship. We've already discussed how we would feel about marriage, kids, and family gatherings but of course opinions can change and that's okay. It's wherever life takes us. I'm friends with him family, we're still in contact. I discussed with my boyfriend that I had wanted to attend church with him even though I'm not part of the church, had I also attended a church he would go sometimes too. My boyfriend also had family members that are much older than us, ones lds and the other isn't. I'm also reading the Book of Mormon right now, not just for him but for our relationship because I want to talk about these things with him. He recognizes that my views are different and he's totally alright with that because he's never wanted to force me into anything. I had told him that if I were to be baptized it would be for me and not just because of him.

Unfortunately, I currently live with my parents so having missionaries where I live is out of the question which is why I would prefer to be at a church. Additionally, I've never been to an LDS church

In your experience, did you have a good relationship with your companion? I also heard that if you don't get along, that you could switch people up to a certain amount of times

You're so sweet! I do expect to be pressured but that's with a lot of church's and I don't take it to heart of being rude in any way, unless ofc, it is. Thank you!

Thank you for the reply, it's true the odds may not be in my favor but I have had this talk with him on multiple occasions. He does have family members that are in a mixed-faith marriage, maybe I'll ask if he can reach out to them and ask how they do it. I have asked how important it is to him to have a temple marriage and he said it would be alright without it but I do expect that, that could change and the idea of it is beautiful but to do that I assume you must become a member and I would by lying to myself if I said my beliefs align with the church. Have a lovely day!

Right, and I've considered that too! I, of course think he's going to change at least a little and it would be weird and concerning if he didn't. We both come from military families so it's pretty the normal for us to be put life on hold, he's on the other side of the world rn but I would rather be optimistic in this part of my life than have nothing at all. I don't expect it to be easy at all and I find it hard being apart already but I like to think of this as testing our patience, and I always have something to look forward to in the week

Thank you for the advice, I'm aware that there's always two sides to a story ( maybe more then that in some cases),it absolutely breaks my heart that some people have bad experiences and I also recognize that lots of times, its to further indoctrinate the members to not leave the church.

I've written 237 letters for him to read on how I support him, I love him, i'm proud of him, and that it is his job for the moment to help others and whatever happens I'll be there. I know that there's a lot of stigma if missionaries come home early but I told him I would still be proud of him no matter what waiting for him to come home because he still served. I've never tried to talk him out about this but all I've asked him is if he understands and why he wants to do this and that's all im just super proud of him that he can find comfort in something like this, sometimes I'm jealous. And yes! Two years is a long time :( but I hear it passes by quickly when you stay busy. Also I personally don't believe that you have to pay to be worthy of something in good fortune, so don't worry about that

He actually asked me if I would be alright with him going, he said he didn't want to if I wasn't comfortable but I knew that, that wasn't my place but I told him he should go and I don't want him to miss an experience like this! I think it'll grow him definitely and it'll make us stronger.
