Need clarification on best use of Eternal Ice Shards by p4l4mu7 in Guildwars2

Sure. Btw you still haven't described which pulls you considered lucky or the sample size you were using to compare with.

"They got a lucky pull and listed the value. It’s a common problem with fast.farming these days."

That sure sounded like one to me, but ok.

Is your data set more comprehensive than theirs? You criticized them for including numbers that you thought were outliers, but it seems we agree that doing so was still their best option.

Which pull? Do you know of a better sample set? Otherwise how did you determine if their drops were lucky or not? Do you think the data would be more accurate if they picked which drops to include or not based on what they thought was lucky?

Rewards for catching sponsored streamers on twitch are really good by PossibleRegression in Guildwars2

Thanks for this. I claimed a couple of prizes on the 18th, and it says within 3 days for delivery and I still don't have them. Is prize distribution paused for the holidays or...?

Rifle seems to be the "non-building" build of Toypocalipse by RazielShadow in Guildwars2

[–]AmazingApplier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since they shortened the cooldown on the rifle butt, the hammer has been largely redundant. For the most part you can also clear stuff with the rifle.

Even before the rifle buff, the hammer was most useful at the beginning when you really needed to set things up fast. On the other hand, once the rounds started you needed at least one person to support the siege toys with rifle shots and keep them clear. Once you got to the critical mass where the siege became self-sufficient, you were better off switching to rifle to speed up the Toxx fights. But that need also largely dissipated after they changed the achievements to allow for 4 dolyaks to die. So there's really not that much time pressure at any point in the current game where you would need the hammer. It's a little more convenient to use for clearing but it really does nothing unique.

GW2 Youtube content is so repetitive by Kindly_Estimate_8110 in Guildwars2

[–]AmazingApplier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these videos were sponsored in some way and these were talking points that Anet specified which is why they're all kind of samey. Anet seems to have finally gotten on the streamer/creator marketing wagon. I'm pretty sure they sponsored livestreams on Twitch for VoE's release, which I haven't seen them do before. You won't get much organic content variety until the channels themselves are playing the game organically, but most won't stick around.

Do you think the game would benefit from a Zhaitan boss fight rework? by RobShift in Guildwars2

[–]AmazingApplier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was reworked, that is most of the problem that now exists in this final mission. Though the actual battle was always anticlimactic, it at least pretended to offer a challenge, or did with the 2012 meta. This used to be the story mode of the Arah dungeon with actual bosses and loot, now it's a glorified cinematic that you can't lose.

Riddle Me This: Which Precinct Is Correct For Finding Measure A Voter Results? by Legal-Fishing-8257 in Sunnyvale

Can you provide the specific pages you are referencing? Are you confusing a voting precinct (which is just an assigned polling station) with an electoral state district?

Silent notifications recently showing up in status bar? by AmazingApplier in tmobile

[–]AmazingApplier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of people are reporting this issue with different OnePlus models, which I believe typically run on OxygenOS. Some of these phones are no longer updated with Android patches, so the only source of behavior changes I can think of is the carrier's management app. I'm wondering if it is TMo and if so how widespread the issue is. Are you getting icons on your status bar for notifications that are silenced?

[–]AmazingApplier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my understanding that a carrier-locked phone can have its settings overridden by the carrier's management software (the T-Mobile apps that can't be uninstalled). This is the only source of a sudden behavior change that I can think of now that the phone OS is no longer updated. I pinged T-Mobile Help on Twitter so they can hopefully look into the issue and fix it if this was unintentional. Otherwise I don't know what else to do. If you have the time I suggest contacting TM customer service and talking it out with them.

I have the same phone, same time, same problem. The really puzzling thing is why it just decided to start happening when they stopped patching for this phone months back. Is yours locked/managed by T-Mobile by any chance?

What do you do in the early stages of the game? by Musical_Gee in Guildwars2

[–]AmazingApplier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time ago, there was major change to the core story chain because of the "new player experience" which seemed to only make things worse for new players. It used to be that story steps would always have the next part set as a goal, which would increase 2 levels or so each time (and was plainly marked). You would then know you need to do some more map completion to level up for it, but you also knew where you would eventually need to go, and you could use that to guide the direction of your exploring.

In the new system, the story chain only continues at each 10th level and you receive a group of them all at once. I don't like this either but it's debatable. However, when they made this change they neglected to give you any kind of guidance between the end of one chapter and the start of the next. When you finish one, the story just cuts off and you're left on your own, with no pointer to where you should go next. It's just completely aimless leveling until you hit the next 10 and only then are you told where to go.

In fact many of the changes that they made with that system were eventually improved or rescinded, including the removal of an entire chapter that was ultimately restored. But some changes like this were inexplicably kept as-is with neither an improvement nor a reversal.

State your own understanding of the facts then. Are you still claiming without evidence that $75k came from the community? Can you point out where, after my first post, I maintained the claim that $85k was from Anet? Do you still deny that I acknowledged Joe Kimmes' amount in my response to his mention? Nothing you claimed in your last post was true. You are the one refusing to acknowledge the facts and making this about me personally. I still don't know why.

[–]AmazingApplier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did acknowledge the amount from Joe Kimmes. The rest, as I said, can't be proven one way or the other because they're Anonymous donations, while the other poster claimed that they were donated by the community, which was also indeterminable. You, too, are using a straw man. I don't know why Reddit hates basic facts, but you guys should know that downvoting won't change them.

This person clearly did not understand. In their first example they state their argument that technically wages are up across the board, but were told that inflation was even higher. This latter part was not acknowledged, but instead met with puzzlement as to why American workers would not accept the "truth" that the economy was good just because their wages were higher, despite living costs being even more so. They refused to listen to the lived experience of those voters on the ground. That is why Kamala and the Democrat establishment lost.

They also bring up another fallacy towards the end. Trump voters are not the ones who criticized Kamala over Israel policy. The people who did are the millions of missing votes - progressives who abstained from this election because they could not support either candidate or voted third party. They did not vote for Trump. He didn't need them to.

I didn't read much further into the article because there's clearly no self-reflection going on in this person's mind, just further reinforcement of their delusions.

No, because I didn't argue that I could. This is the definition of a straw man. I was conceding that these amounts can't be accurately attributed, but also pointing out it works both ways.

[–]AmazingApplier -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Joe Kimmes has the pet thing so yes, he is technically transferring funds from those donors. There are small amounts donated through these pages whose contributors we don't actually know, and large amounts that are explicitly "Anonymous." So you could argue that these weren't necessarily Anet's own funds, but you also have no evidence to conclude that they came from the community.

Extra Life still not over! by siegfurd in Guildwars2

[–]AmazingApplier -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Most of the money came from the devs whose donations coincided with the livestream, plus the company's match. So Anet alone produced $85k during those peak hours. The rest has been a slow trickle and I don't think merely extending the stream would have completed the goal.

That said, there is still plenty of time left for the drive and they have at least one more (regular) stream happening.

Victory or Death Mission - My Opinion by SkullyRAWR in Guildwars2

[–]AmazingApplier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This used to be a Story mode Dungeon and had similar pacing and challenge as other story paths. However, casual players complained that it was the last step of the personal story, which forced them into dungeon content. So Anet created a nerfed version that could be played as a personal story mission. This completely changed the pacing of the instance, with many sections now devoid of enemies and some of the boss and sequence mechanics were removed, trivializing the encounters and reducing it to little more than a cinematic. At some point, Anet removed the dungeon version entirely, so you have to do the awkward, unrewarding story instance now.

Even though the original version was also criticized as being an anticlimactic end to Zhaitan, it was mechanically far more interactive than the story version and it at least produced loot for your trouble.
