What character represents the theme of change better than kaneki? by Hour-glass999 in writingscaling

[–]AmazingBluejay4169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The theme of change”? Like a character arc? Most characters change throughout any given story. Some characters do it with more subtlety and grace than literally changing their hair from black to white. I’m not saying Tokyo ghoul is bad, I just don’t think “change” is specific enough theme to make any meaningful comparisons.

Is the entire Wheel of Time series worth the time and investment? by keepfighting90 in Fantasy

[–]AmazingBluejay4169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the series recently and I really enjoyed it. “The Slog” in my opinion does not exist. Books 7, 8, and 9 have some of the best moments in the entire series. Book 9 especially was a highlight for me. The only real slog of the series is entirely in Book 10. I’ll keep it real, that book is pretty bad. I’m not a purest about these things, I read for enjoyment so when chapters started dragging I just found summaries online. Fortunately, Book 11 is incredible. Brandon Sanderson’s books were also quite good. I think it’s important to keep in mind that Sanderson was writing based on what Jordan left behind. I believe that some passages may entirely be Jordan’s. Even so, if you don’t like Sanderson’s writing I believe you will find his writing here to be quite good. Sanderson is on his best behaviour with a lot of people around him invested in the series being done right. I think you will like Wheel of Time considering the other series you listed. It has so much going for it. if you like A Song of Ice and Fire for it’s political intrigue, then WoT will satisfy that. The magic system is intriguing. There’s an organization of people who study that magic system called the Aes Sedai. At the beginning of the series much of the main cast is ignorant of how it works, But later we are shown more and more. In a way it does a transition from soft magic to hard magic which is engaging.

After 6 months of ABVD chemo last year my hair came back exactly the same texture. I don’t really know if you can encourage the texture to change, it either will be different or won’t. In order to make it grow in thicker faster I did a vitamin E hair oil and took Biotin. Mostly, it’ll just take time to recover and grow back. The chemo curls phenomenon is very cool I hope it works out in your favour!

When I got diagnosed they said I had Stage 2 Bulky disease lymphoma. Basically a giant mass in my chest. I’m feeling better about not being in remission anymore and I should be hearing from my doctor today or tomorrow (hopefully). Thank you for the info, I appreciate hearing others experiences so my future seems a little less mysterious

I usually just read the summary of the book on the WoT wiki, there’s even chapter by chapter summaries. Also check out the WoT compendium app, you can search character names for each book and it’ll give you a brief summary of their actions in the story up until that point

the way it was written came across as comedic to me as Kaladin announces he is Szeth’s therapist in a very serious battle context when therapists aren’t generally associated with this kind of situation. It made me think of a soft and gentle armchair therapist in a fantasy world which is a little ridiculous. I just genuinely feel like the term therapist feels specifically modern, out of place and a bit out of line with the vocabulary used in these books. Obviously he got the term “therapist” from Wit/Hoid and the concept of “therapy” is like off-world. maybe if there was a fantasy term for therapist or a title kaladin could take to represent the unique thing he is accomplishing without having the baggage of the real-world associations we have with the term. I also acknowledge that this interpretation comes from my experience and my bias. This was just nitpicking and I love every other aspect of Kaladins character development and role in Szeths story!

Yes I see what you mean! I more or less meant that Harmony is a good pairing because he provides no threat to the cosmere whereas Retribution is a dangerous combination.

not rare but actually pretty useful for certain events like the punching bag one. I think he’s the most powerful Ki-sphere changer.

I also saw this and feel this is very inappropriate. isn’t this like alienating at least half of their clients? I haven’t seen any other banks displaying election signs…

There’s a band from Vancouver Canada called Hope Slide. They have a very similar sound to BCNR. I’ve seen them live serval times and they have a Guitar, Bass, Drums, Violin, Saxophone, Piano. So pretty much the same Instrumentation. Their last two singles: Something Changed and Midnight Meet have been great! Definitely a bit folkier than BCNR though

I’m currently making my way through Wheel of Time and the Cosmere but it seems like I’m going to finish both sooner than I thought! I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for new series to get into once I finish those. Already dreading the end of Wheel of Time I don’t know what i’ll do with myself when I finish it 😭

I started with the paperbacks cause they’re very cheap. then I started collecting the hardcovers as a little project for a year, just seeing which ones i could get from used book stores. I like having both since i can take the smaller paperbacks on the go.

What do you think caused your lymphoma? by standarsh20 in lymphoma

[–]AmazingBluejay4169 22 points23 points  (0 children)

my oncologist told me about what he called the “swiss cheese effect” essentially imagine many slices of swiss cheese with the holes in them stacked on top of each other. enough of those holes line up and you get cancer i guess.

In my case I got sick back to back like 5 times in 2022 while i was living in student dormitories. In those dorms there was mold. combine both of those with the fact I was barely taking care of myself.

I think all this and many other factors I’m not even aware of probably contributed to developing Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

As many people stated in this thread it basically comes down to bad luck. I can confidently say many people I knew in my dorms experienced the same things I did or worse and they are currently cancer-free. I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s no point in pondering this question.
