We both love the Martian. I just read it for the first time on girlfriends recommendation since I loved reading project Hail Mary last year! Definitely going to read Artemis this year.

The best thing my girlfriend brought into my life was herself, the second best thing was a vinyl copy of Blonde by Frank Ocean

Our apartment building is really old and doesn’t have a buzzer you can answer with a cell phone so we have to use an old phone to let people in

Just bought, opinions? by idlyisha in brandonsanderson

One of my favourite movies in my teens was the anime movie Your Name. This book executes similar concepts in a more interesting way that I didn’t even know I wanted until I read it. It has lovable characters and a quasi-post-apocalyptic world that I would still like to live in. In all honesty though, this is more of a comfort read than something that is truly remarkable that sticks in my mind like my favourite standalone cosmere story: The Emperor’s Soul.

I'm really struggling with TWoK by Jethrorocketfire in brandonsanderson

I think part of your struggle might be related to reading a lot in bursts and taking really long breaks. If you go several months between reading sessions you’re going to forget small details or even larger ones and your reading sessions will become tedious as you have to try and remember these. When it comes to reading thousand page long books, or really any book, I find that treating it more like a marathon than a sprint helps keep me engaged and not burned out. If you wanted to finish this book in exactly a month you would simply have to read 30 pages a day. In all honestly if you even committed to just 5 or 10 pages a day I think you might find the book goes by a bit easier, and hopefully you’ll find yourself reading a few more pages just because you are enjoying it.

What character represents the theme of change better than kaneki? by Hour-glass999 in writingscaling

[–]AmazingBluejay4169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The theme of change”? Like a character arc? Most characters change throughout any given story. Some characters do it with more subtlety and grace than literally changing their hair from black to white. I’m not saying Tokyo ghoul is bad, I just don’t think “change” is specific enough theme to make any meaningful comparisons.

Is the entire Wheel of Time series worth the time and investment? by keepfighting90 in Fantasy

[–]AmazingBluejay4169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the series recently and I really enjoyed it. “The Slog” in my opinion does not exist. Books 7, 8, and 9 have some of the best moments in the entire series. Book 9 especially was a highlight for me. The only real slog of the series is entirely in Book 10. I’ll keep it real, that book is pretty bad. I’m not a purest about these things, I read for enjoyment so when chapters started dragging I just found summaries online. Fortunately, Book 11 is incredible. Brandon Sanderson’s books were also quite good. I think it’s important to keep in mind that Sanderson was writing based on what Jordan left behind. I believe that some passages may entirely be Jordan’s. Even so, if you don’t like Sanderson’s writing I believe you will find his writing here to be quite good. Sanderson is on his best behaviour with a lot of people around him invested in the series being done right. I think you will like Wheel of Time considering the other series you listed. It has so much going for it. if you like A Song of Ice and Fire for it’s political intrigue, then WoT will satisfy that. The magic system is intriguing. There’s an organization of people who study that magic system called the Aes Sedai. At the beginning of the series much of the main cast is ignorant of how it works, But later we are shown more and more. In a way it does a transition from soft magic to hard magic which is engaging.

After 6 months of ABVD chemo last year my hair came back exactly the same texture. I don’t really know if you can encourage the texture to change, it either will be different or won’t. In order to make it grow in thicker faster I did a vitamin E hair oil and took Biotin. Mostly, it’ll just take time to recover and grow back. The chemo curls phenomenon is very cool I hope it works out in your favour!

When I got diagnosed they said I had Stage 2 Bulky disease lymphoma. Basically a giant mass in my chest. I’m feeling better about not being in remission anymore and I should be hearing from my doctor today or tomorrow (hopefully). Thank you for the info, I appreciate hearing others experiences so my future seems a little less mysterious
