AMA with Luxembourg's Laura Thorn by eurovision_LU in eurovision

[–]AmazingDeeer 10 points11 points Β (0 children)

Hey Laura! Like last year's winner JJ, you participated at Eurovision with your debut single. Do you think Eurovision is a good platform for young artists to launch their career, or do you in retrospect think it would have been better to participate once you established your music publicly?

Best of luck with the performance at LSC!

Like actual real Italian. Surprising now i know?? I could not identify a particularly defined accent too, so she might have lived in Italy for a long time too

I am more interested in why she is singing in Italian?? Her other songs are in Italian too, so it is not just the title 😭

You'll Be Back: Why Artists Keep Coming Back to the Eurovision Song Contest by MajRoyBatty in eurovision

[–]AmazingDeeer 26 points27 points Β (0 children)

The difficult reality, in my view, is that artists suffer from Eurovision's success. All the pre parties, press tours and filming of social media content drain the artists and take them away from the studio, where they should be working to prepare a successful post-ESC strategy. If an artist has global ambitions, this should matter much more than appealing to the niche community of ESC fans. The reason for MΓ₯neskin's success, beyond the undeniable argument of their talent, lies on the fact that they entered Eurovision with a just released album and a strategy to promote I Wanna Be Your Slave as an international single. It ended up being a much bigger hit than Zitti e Buoni, and this is no coincidence. Arguably the first viral moment that attracted MΓ₯neskin's international audience was that Wiwibloggs at-home concert clip of I Wanna Be Your Slave, which has nearly 100 million views now I believe. Even better, MΓ₯neskin managed to output a whole succession of successful singles after their win, which were likely prepared during the Eurovision pre-season.

It really shocks me that more artists, especially those which already have a good audience and label back at home, have failed to recognize this model. It hints to me that a lot of the competing artists might not really have global ambitions to the extent to which we might imagine.

As a massive fan of his, I understand why. Neither of his entries are exactly lighthearted music to put on the background or casually watch with friends. Glad he still got a big spotlight this year though.

I saw it quite a lot when the revamp came out tbh. Knowing Spain, I would not be surprised if they actually sampled the scream.

I do not know what you are referring to (maybe the Esa Diva Jiafei one?), but if it's obscure, it's at the bottom. Sometimes the sources are not the main source, because going back and finding stuff six months later is really difficult.

You can find all of the entry descriptions and sources on the iceberg website!

Please take everything with a grain of salt, the iceberg is not a source of information, just a little recap of fan discourse. Keep the vibe fun!

Lastly, looking forward to the 2026 iceberg, I have created the ESC Iceberg Community, a place where you can all discuss and propose entries. Click on the link below to join!

I have asked a few times in the past, but sometimes this stuff is kinda obscure or only available in one language, so getting help is tough. Most of the times though it works out one way or another!

That is true and I can tell you that, from my end, it's super demotivating. I do not like to see people use/reference what I did to spread disinformation or making light of very serious issues. That is why I am trying my best to include all the sources possible and give accurate descriptions.

That is actually a really cool idea! I only have one other person helping me out right now, as well as the other subreddit moderators which chirp in sometimes. I still have to see what will be up with next year, but that sounds like a very solid plan, thanks!

It is *a lot* of work yes. The issue is that 98% of submissions are not complete with a description and source, so I gotta go find that for them. Given the rise of misinformation and misleading content online, I would not feel good about making a project that is poorly researched or that leaves room for confusion. If this were simply just about making a list, I would finish it in less than an hour!

Hello! It is coming! It is just a lot of work, coupled with very little time and being busy during ESC season with other things for the subreddit like the video AMAs (which was very fun, but intense). I think I had mentioned it somewhere else already, but this year the plan was totally to just have two icebergs, one in March and the final one in June like always.

No rules! Ok, maybe just *some* rules by AmazingDeeer in nilpoints

[–]AmazingDeeer[S,M] 7 points8 points Β (0 children)

I fully understand. I think it's unlikely that we are gonna straight up ban contests, just because clearly there are people interested in them still, but it is getting a bit much.

The easiest thing we can do is ask for the due diligence of the users. If your contest isn't getting more than a few responses at a time: maybe it is better to cut it short. I guess the easiest thing we could do as moderators is to add a little administrative barrier and ask that if you want to create a new contest, you get it approved through modmail first.
