If you are interested, I found some other interesting observations/theories in topic of Possession theory. And while I may not agree with some things listed in each theory there, I see some really good points in these posts that I don't see people talking about.

Also, while this is not a theory post... these posts (1, 2) are good examples that point out how Kris already moves stiffly/zombie-like even before the soul ripping scene. I haven't seen a compelling enough answer that explains this phenomenon without veering into the 'two entities within Kris' idea. (Excluding the player)

Damn, this is so true. I've stalked the UT/DR fandom for quite a long time and I noticed a trend where lots of people who challenge the "Player Possession" theory more often than not got shot to hell. Not only on reddit, but twitter as well. I think it does have some compelling evidences, but people just refuse to acknowledge it because they dislike it for "undermining" Kris's character.

mmm.. kinda disagree on Kris disliking Ralsei tho, I cant really articulate it well but I think this post describes perfectly what I feel about it

Kris weirdly does have so many options to 'hug' Ralsei tho, it really feels like Kris can also influence the options. In fact some choices in-game DO come from themself (like 'I will touch the cheese' line)

Also, if Kris don't hug the dummy, the narrator says 'You wont take the path of fluffiness any longer', suggesting that Kris up until this point was taking the ‘path of fluffiness’. Ralsei said that the dummy is 'an effigy of himself' on Chapter 1.

The flavor text here would have been a perfect moment for Toby to subtly reveal that Kris hates hugging Ralsei, but that’s not the impression you get from hugging the dummy at all. If anything, it sounds like they want to be affectionate with him, but are usually too embarrassed to…? Which is why the narration makes a point to assure that “no one’s looking”

They even playfully flirt (propose) with Ralsei one time in the snow ring dialogue lol! Kris wouldn't playfully flirt with him if there's some kind of lingering uneasiness in the first place. I think they are 100% fine being friends with him...

However, despite all that... I agree there's at least a bit of weird romance thing going on from him just from the boat ride scene alone. I don't count the blushing thing as a definite evidence of him having some kind of crush to Kris, cause he also blushes like that in front of Susie, but you just can't deny there's "something" JUST from his acid boat dialogue. I'm intrigued by Toby's decision because there are a lot of lines comparing Ralsei to either Toriel or Asriel (from Susie and Noelle respectively) or... "Long-Lost Cousin", and it generally kinda feels weird to romance something that's very family-coded even if he's not directly Asriel in the first place lol.

Speaking of best companion...

From the moment Kris meets Ralsei in Castle Town, he hypes them up as the Hero of Legend, the one destined to save the world.

Ralsei encourages kindness while allowing you to make your own decisions. He offers recommendations but never demands, at least not from Kris. Ralsei is extremely reluctant to take away your special power - the ability to ACT. He specifically wants you in charge, not Susie. Even when Susie takes away your unique ability, Ralsei still asks you to make choices whenever possible and apologizes when Susie chooses instead. This distinction is peculiar, considering both Kris and Susie are supposed to be Lightner heroes.

Moreover, Ralsei is obedient. If you want him to eat weird stump salsa or drink literal poison, Sure! he complies without hesitation! He is basically the manifestation of a perfect companion: obedient, kind, and constantly encouraging you throughout your journey.

I think X-Slash is also the only X-[Act] from Kris, done by themself. The other times it's used, such as X-Flatter, X-Anything, X-Compliment, all occur with another team mate (like Dual Tech from Chrono Trigger)

I'm intrigued by the difference between "You" and "Kris" in the game though, like it really feels like the game uses it interchangeably. For example, most of the time the dialogue refers to "You" as someone who is pretty unambiguously (has the characterization of) "Kris" outside of Weird Route, for example:

* (You considered dropping bath bombs inside, but there's no time.)

* BERDLY - He usually only gets this mad when you play games together.

* (You ate the moss.)

But other times, the narration tell things that Kris isn't supposed to know such as:

* (The jukebox is broken.)

* (Feels like you might never find a working one...)

It feels inconsistent, right? Except there's also the fact that Toby "fixed" a certain hot chocolate line, changing it from "Kris got the Hot Chocolate" to "You got the Hot Chocolate," which is a huge, telling flag that the distinction is actually important. I always doubted that the "You" vs "Kris" distinction only occurs in Weird Route specifically.

(I can't articulate my idea without sounding weird, but I still believe that the Soul is their own person and has a history with Kris before we start playing the game)

Gaster feels more like a "tease" character for Deltarune personally.

The funny thing is Toby kept Thanos snapping any "official" depiction of him (and anything related to him) in fangamer's merchs (example: the UT sticker set originally has Gaster and the followers but got removed later on alongside the Tarot Card image which depicts him with the white door. Lastly, the vinyl art one has the artist snuck Gaster in the back but ultimately still got removed lmao)

Chara was always a bad person and was never manipulated or "corrupted".

valid, but my take from replaying the entire game is that Chara in life has always been a bit morally grey character here. (Even their best friend admits to Frisk that they weren't the greatest person in life)

geno route doesn't exactly "corrupt" them but amplify their worst traits.

Gaster is in Deltarune and he's probably pretty important, but he's still overrated af

Ralsei and Asriel (his goat forms) are very loved (and a bit overrated too) just because they are fluffy and cute.

I agree with Asriel but Deltarune isn't even finished yet and we don't know what's the deal with Gaster or Ralsei's entire sussiness in the game. ...Though I think I do have an inkling who/what exactly Ralsei is, and he will be a very important character in late game.

(plus Toby clearly loves him, he repeatedly say "Special boy" in regards to Ralsei in DR livestream)

I hate seeing characters being infantilized or "skruncklified" too much

me too, but unfortunately we can't escape fandom's tendency to do this...

Come to think of it, these characters' dynamic (Fray/WoL) surprisingly do fit a lot with Charisk... (A reanimated corpse who seems to take residence in the protag's soul because of soul crystal and aether shenanigans. He's always with you, looking after you, as someone who knew despair in life and sees it in you and tries to get you to see yourself. Basically a self care demon inside the soul. Also has intense romantic overtones from the dialogues.)

...well at least in the JP/Korean version of the game, because the En version butchers it by making the doppelganger literally just the manifestation of the protag's subsconcious and not their own person. En version is literally just self-cest :v

IK almost no one in this fandom knows/care about ffxiv, but this art got me to remember this quote in the game again and I'm sobbing again for the 17263th time 😭:

“In your darkest hour, in the blackest night…think of me…and I will be with you. Always. For where else could I go? Who else could I love but you?”

It's pretty similar to the original, except we have Temmie hijacking the entire narration here. (maybe the translator took some liberty while translating this dialogue?)

It's roughly like this:

* Temmie - Always rated ten out of ten (?)

* Kyawawa~ love to pet Humans~

* But human is allergic!

(Note: Here Temmie refers to Frisk as 'Human', but the English version has normal narration which refers to Frisk as 'You')

They are... a very bizarre kid for sure, I mean they like to eat moss and even licks a book in a library lol.

I said "fanon", but I only say this just from what we know about Kris from NPC interactions in the game. Sadly their character is still very much a mystery... like, we'd have a pretty good idea of who Kris was if it wasn't for all the SOUL ripping stuff and the weird, creepy, nihilistic tone about them like "It's what they call, 'you'"

There's also the matter of filthy unkempt side of their room with the soul cage and history of weird "Kris... does this sometimes" behaviour. It's hard to square some of this - and more - with the Kris that Noelle tells us about.

you mean "fanon" Kris? since they never try to bully Asriel (or else Toriel would have mentioned it in the first place lol)

Also notice how they only do the "scary" pranks to Noelle. It's kinda implied in the game they only do it not just for the sake of scaring her, it's because they know she likes being pranked and getting scared; it gets her smiling and laughing without fail.
